This. How can you make the Knicks into laughingstocks and the poster team for dysfunction again when you brought into change the culture.

MELO and ROSE made this a laughingstock!!! This ain't about Phil. This is about SELFISH STAR players not buying into Team ball and leading a team to wins. Melo and Rose are the 2 biggest culprits and making the most money. You can't absolve them of the blame for this team not playing well. They're the top talents with the experience and know how. So yes Phil is a JERK, but he's not losing the games. Let's try and keep things in perspective. Melo and Rose have let the team down. No winning team has their top 2 players PLAY NO D and play SELFISH on offense. Just doesn't happen.

Once again putting Melo and Rose in the same light. Rose is Phil's mistake not Melo. Guess your not going to stop. How did Melo play last year? What has changed? Answer: Lousy additions of Rose and Noah! And oh yes......crazy Phil's sabotage. And you better check the papers, news and public opinion....Phil is the one making us a laughingstock.

Rose and Melo as the source of Knicks problems is fake news...

I literally don't understand how you guys are assessing this. Melo and Rose are the 2 MAIN CULPRITS in this team's dysfunction. A blind man could see they don't defend or pass and until they both step up this team will continue to underperform.

wargames @ 2/8/2017 8:22 PM
Maybe he should bench Melo? Idk this is a tough case. Like Melo got the NTC and arguably took a little less for it, however from a team standpoint the rebuild will be a lot quicker if they could trade him for some picks. It's like Phil has buyers remorse and Melo just wants to live in NYC (who could blame him) but as a Knicks fan you got to hope he leaves. He hasn't won enough here to have earned any real fan support.

New York Knicks president Phil Jackson’s public campaign to pressure Carmelo Anthony into waiving his no-trade clause is working to harden Anthony’s resolve to remain with the franchise, league sources told The Vertical.

“[Jackson’s] underestimating ‘Melo’s willingness to stay,” a source familiar with Anthony’s thinking told The Vertical.

Jackson used his largely dormant Twitter account Tuesday to publicly praise a published report critical of Anthony’s evolution as a winning player. In reference to a Kevin Ding column on Bleacher Report, Jackson wrote, “Bleacher’s Ding almost rings the bell, but I learned you don’t change the spot on a leopard with Michael Graham in my CBA daze.”

Jackson was referring to a journeyman player, Michael Graham, whom he coached in the Continental Basketball Association. Anthony is a nine-time NBA All-Star and three-time Olympic gold medalist.

As Jackson’s passive-aggressive assault on Anthony has played out, the Knicks have spiraled to a 22-31 record, 12th in the Eastern Conference.

Anthony has privately told teammates, too: He refuses to let Jackson run him out of the Knicks. The Knicks have contacted three teams – the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers – about possible Anthony trades. The Clippers and Cavaliers have interest, but only in cobbling together packages that include role players, league sources told The Vertical.

Anthony has privately indicated an interest in listening to trades to those three teams, but the Knicks have been unable to find a trade package that they’re willing to accept, sources said. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 23.

Boston’s shown minimal interest in Anthony, preferring to continue its pursuit of persuading Chicago (Jimmy Butler) and Indiana (Paul George) to engage in trade talks that involve two younger, more well-rounded stars.

There was an expectation around the NBA that Knicks management would start to search elsewhere for trade possibilities and bring Anthony different scenarios for his approval, but that process doesn’t appear to have begun, league sources said.

Jackson has resisted a transparent approach of simply meeting with Anthony and his representative and telling them that the organization prefers to trade him and wants to work to find an agreeable solution. That approach might have convinced Anthony to be more open to accepting a trade, league sources said, but Jackson’s insistence on public over private communication has severely damaged the relationship – likely beyond repair.

Anthony has tried to maintain a focus on turning around the Knicks and getting them back to the playoffs. All along, he has said that his hope was to win in New York – not leave to try elsewhere.

Anthony’s contract guarantees him $24.5 million this season and $26.2 million in 2017-18, and he holds a $30 million player option for 2018-19. Plus, the Knicks must pay Anthony a $9.5 million bonus if he is traded.

i really do appreciate melo wanting to stay here and win and be a part of a winner in new york, that actually is something you don't see every day in pro sports anymore. with that said, we're not going to win with him here and i'd rather see him moved on so we can rebuild and let porzingis move towards being "the guy." we gave melo the ntc, so he has every right to say no to any trade, it's our fault for giving him the ntc in the first place.

What "hand" are we talking about?

The key here is that the NEW YORK KNICKS get better over the short and long term. Not whether Melo is happy or not. If Melo is miserable, and the Knicks start to win like the GS Warriors are winning, then who gives a flying f**k if Melo is miserable or not.

Jackson has NO TRADE LEVERAGE at all regarding Melo. The more teams that Melo will waive his NTC for, the wider Jackson has in options to possibly trade him. More options means a better chance not to take in a horrible bad contract or maybe getting an actual young asset as part of the package versus not.

It's not like Jackson went from some trade leverage to none, he is trying to go for NONE to somewhat above None At All.

The only reason Melo might lock in is he might believe Dolan will fire Jackson and this will all go away.

Bill Simmons said it best, all you need to know about Melo and winning is when he passed up a chance to sign for good money ( not complete max money) with the Bulls, who were a ready made team to highlight his strengths and shade his weaknesses and be a legit contender.

I care less about Melo and what he feels compared to what is good for the long term of this franchise.

Play the game the right way and you give Jackson nothing to use against you in the press. What is happening here is not "resolve", it's just a game of chicken to see what happens first, i.e. Melo getting traded or Jackson getting fired.

Phil had Melo on the ropes and in a position where he was considered waiving his NTC..All he needed to do was call Melo in and talk to him like a man and say we want to move on..Phil pulled his usual stunt and wanted to add insult to injury..He knew he had Melo where he wanted him and now Phil wanted us to see who really pulls the strings..He went to twitter and got exposed, NY and the media saw him for what he is..A chump and fake bully..A small man...Now his record is being examined..Let's see how he survives it..His cred just took a hit..Let see if it was all worth it..

Phil pulled out the impossible, made Melo a sympathetic figure..

Dare I say seemingly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...Reminds me of Falcons/Pats..Hillary/Trump..Brexit...

I dont understand why you keep deflecting to KP every time Melo and Rose are brought up. You do realize that KP is a 7'3" guy. Which center in the league can guard out to the 3 point line? None. And we know that even though KP is playing the 4 spot, he is and will eventually become a center, body just not there yet.

Bringing up KP does not make an argument when Rose and Melo are the main topics of discussion.

Excuse me, are you reading any of the discussions??..98% of Nix post about Melo and Rose is becuase KP had a bad game..Look at each and every gamethread..Specifically the last game..Rose's first game back after sitting out 4 games, is being blamed for KP's poor play of late..Look it up..

Maybe you can explain it to me..Why can't KP's play stand on its own..Why do other players have to be responsible for the way KP plays??..Is it really so hard to say he had an off night??

I can see why after admiring Isiah's work and missing watching guys like Eddie Curry you would be salty. I mean KP is so over hyped here its stupid. I mean he's a poor man's Jared "the glue" Jeffries (signed to a 5 years deal). You can see Phil's total lack of talent evaluation in KP's pathetic defense. Heck... I remember when Isiah signed Jerome big game James. Man that dude could play.

I think this is my favorite...
October 4, 2005: Traded Tim Thomas, Mike Sweetney, Jermaine Jackson, a 2006 1st round draft pick (LaMarcus Aldridge) a 2007 1st round draft pick (Joakim Noah), a 2007 2nd round draft pick (Kyrylo Fesnko) and a 2009 2nd round draft pick (Jon Brockman) for Eddy Curry, Antonio Davis and a 2007 1st round draft pick (Wilson Chandler).

But yea man... keep letting us all know in every thread how much Phil sucks, how lame KP is. I am surprised you havent dumped on Willy yet. The day is young.

"..Man you owe me 4 beers already for your misquotes..You want to make it a case..

Ha, if melo wins this dispute we're doomed- Dolan and IT will be back at the helm. We'll be stuck with iso melo for the rest of his days. I don't honestly know why any of you want this.

Melo proves Phil was right- he'd rather stay out of spite and carry on playing the way he always has regardless of what any coach wants, rather than change or go somewhere else and win. Phil is 100% right

Phil didn't even show up at Rose's press conference. He continues to disappoint. He degrades the value of the guy he is trying to trade and makes the Knicks look dysfunctional again. The guy sucks. Also, he brought Rose in and gave Melo the ntc and the trade kicker.

This...phil had a chance to move on from Melo instead, he not only re-signs him but compounds the problem with the NTC! phils actions are totally unfair because Melo has to answer for phils tweets before and after ever game. Phil is quiet, while Horny, Melo and the rest of the knicks have to clean up his mess...this is total BS! Get this clown outta here!

Is melo fair? Hornacek has backed him and stood up for him but melo has ignored his wishes all season long- no defense and constant iso melo. Melo decided a long time ago he's just going to play the way he wants regardless- how do we benefit from keeping him?

Re signing him at the time made sense because we didn't have our picks, so knicks had to have something to keep people watching. Melo would only re-sign if we agreed to a NYC (completely understandable). Now we have our picks its time for him to go

How about Melo actually Leads and tells Rose what he's doing isn't okay?! Melo is happy just to be here

When is the last time you see KP cover a guy at the three point line..You are trying to says it's only two guys..

KP does have his deficiencies. But he is a second year unicorn giving very good effort.

As bad as Isiah was, he has a higher win % than Phil does at this point....Says alot....

Not its not understandable...As smart a basketball mind as Phil is supposed to be, what in his right mind led him to believe Melo, after 10 plus years in the league, was all of a sudden gonna change his game? He is who we all thought he was...and iso player-shoot first player. Phil knew this ans still signed him and allowed Melo to grab him by the balls and offered him the NTC. A sign and trade was the way to go...

Regardless of that, there is no way you can condone the way phil is going about this now....What phil is doing is nothing but a big distraction as Horny has even admitted. Its not the way you do things...He has done nothing to change the culture as he claimed he would instead the circus continues...He takes these shots at his player nd leaves him and the organization to clean up his shit! Totally unprofessional and uncalled for....Hiring him was an awful mistake! Please get this clown outta here!!!
