Knicks · Woj: "Dolan by trying to fight battle, has lost war. Knicks are toxic free agent location due to Phil/Dolan" (page 2)

Yup, no one wanted to come here anyways. Sure they've pretended out of politeness, to improve their coverage and as a bargaining tool, but honestly who can list the FAs that have wanted to come here the past decade or two?

Lopez
Jennings
Noah
KOQ
Felton

Even Amar'e only came here because his other options fell through and we offered more money.

We need to build via the draft, then FAs might want to come, but really free agency is just for role players now, and players who have fallen through the cracks.

The last thing we need to be worried about is the FA Market. We've done enough of that in recent years. Just draft well and start signing young talent that fits the team's needs. We need to build this team back up the right way and then at the right time get back into the FA Market but for now that's not the reality of where this team is at. We're no longer BUYERS.
If the Knicks don't resign rose they have a lot of cap space. Teams need vets. The Knicks have needs. They will try to use their cap space. The Knicks have 5 rookies. I think 4 of them come back. So you are anti Jrue/CP3?

CP3 isn't coming here- Clips will max him out and pay him way more than we could. Same for Holiday.

I hope we don't go on the attack in free agency- hold back, and use the cap space to absorb contracts for picks or to help facilitate trades, or use it if any player has fallen through the cracks and not been signed (there's usually at least one or two good-isa players still standing)

I hate Dolan, but he isn't putting off anyone signing here- its money and winning, and sometimes personal factors, that determine most free agents decisions. A lot of owners are awful people. Do you remember which owners were playing hard ball in the lockout? Nope, me neither, and neither do the players- didn't affect who they signed with one jot.

Bulls owners spy on their players and threaten them in contract negotiations- is no one ever going to sign with the Bulls? Did it stop Wade?

Cavs Owner wrote that letter when Lebron left, did that stop Lebron leaving? Love re-signing?

Nalod @ 2/11/2017 3:52 AM
CP3 is on the decline. Unless he is a finishing piece, we don't sign him.
Dolan tried to help Vin Baker with his drinking problem.
Dolan is a little shoyte. Guys like Billups, Jaelen, and Mcgrady were cap fodder who came at the end of their careers and got paid big.
They are TV talking heads who can't defend Dolan (Nobody can), and populist backing of the blue collar Oak is alway the fans choice!!!!
smackeddog @ 2/11/2017 3:54 AM
The bball writers have been saying we're toxic and no one wants to come here for the past 20 years, yet each incident the seem to act like it's the first time they've 'discovered' we're toxic. they exaggerate every time
smackeddog @ 2/11/2017 3:55 AM
And as much as I hate Dolan, and the what he did to Oak, as an organisation we treat our ex-players better than most

No? Having the worst owner in the NBA directly responsible for 17 seasons of failure doesn't put off a player who is concerned about winning?

Awful people? We are not talking about Dolan's character, which is terrible. We are talking about his performance as an NBA owner. His career record as an owner is 567-784. Over 200 games under .500. That's stopping the players from coming here - that and incidents like the one with Charles Oakley. Oak is not the first nor the last beloved Knick to be removed from the franchise for criticizing the team and Dolan.

If you don't think the Knicks are a laughingstock, and if you don't think James Dolan is directly responsible for that, then I'm not sure what else to say. From the very moment he took over as owner we have been terrible. When do you think James Dolan became owner of the franchise?

And this false statement that 20 years ago the Knicks were considered a non-destination for free agents due to a toxic culture is absurd. What? Sure, the Knicks went through come coaching changes with Patrick Ewing but that was the extent of the 'toxicness'. There was never a constant circus. There was never a constant black cloud over the franchise. There was never this us vs. media/fans stance from the Knicks. The Knicks were also winning - alot. They were not a launghingstock Cleveland Browns/Donald Sterling Clippers franchise they are now. It is ridiculous to assert that the Knicks of 20 years ago had the same issues they have now. Maybe the worst revisionist history I have ever read here.

Nalod @ 2/11/2017 4:08 AM
Magic Johnson hired as "advisor" now wants to call the shots.
Good player, logical talking head, but how has he distinguished himself as a coach? Or GM?
He said "We need a superstar". Profound! Who doesn't say that!!!
Fredo Buss needs help, but c'mon now, he don't need that. Everyone knows you need superstars!!!!

People seem to forget that we signed Allan Houston and Chris Childs who were considered the next big thing and the two most sought after free agents after Reggie Miller. Chris didn't work out as well but Allan certainly did.

I see some Knick fans remain in delusion that CP3 and stars like that are coming to a team that will have won 37, 17, 32, and 30ish games 4 yeras heading into free agency.

Is there anyone on this forum that thinks that? You should name them because I can't find them.

If you are whining about free agents you have to be dreaming
Which great free agents have signed with us?
If you think that guys like Lopez Noah Lee Afflalo etc won't continue to sign with us lol come on

I'll make a friendly bet with anyone. This summer will be able to sign 2 players of the level of Lee, Noah, RoLo or Afflalo. Just supply and demand.

I'm not whining about free agents. I said earlier in this thread that the Knicks have three strikes against them, bad management, bad ownership and bad taxes. I just am wondering who you were saying thinks CP3 is coming to NYC.

Yep, then they throw a tantrum when these fantasy signings don't happen! As if it's the GMs fault!

Yep. Sad stuff. We're stuck with this dysfunction, because as Woj points out - it's not just Dolan, it's his little team of spies and sycophants that are employed at every level of the organization that create an atmosphere of paranoia and distrust.

CP3 would never come here. He has been very pro-Oakley since Dolan's embarrassing incident.

Man your all over the place. Relax you should know the real reason why the top FAs don't come here it has nothing to do with Dolan, Phil or taxes. Players know that the media here is toxic and blow thing a to the upteenth proportions.

Besides free agency isn't going to be the NYK bread and butter the draft is where it is at. You get your good players through the draft. Then the FAs come here. It's been the formula for Warriors and other teams as well. Just look at Cleveland LeBron went back why because they rebuilt in the draft you think he goes back there with a stinky roster he'll no because he is a front runner.

I urge everyone to keep calm. Don't let the moment play in your mind because it is just that.
