umm...knicks fans were more so hoping that he would ban dolan for life. force him to sell already.

Now, how about Silver doing something about the refs, who sink the Knicks every single damn game?

Dolan deserve zero respect.

He's a clown.

He only went running to Silver after his poor attempts at positive PR with Michael Kay and Latrell Sprewell.

It was damage control, and he was needed, I agree with you but it was important to the franchise to do this, and they really need to offer him some kind of role in management. Oak got a lot of support from around the league, coaches and players. That's the guy you need at the table during Free Agency.

Knicks lift ban on Charles Oakley, but he wants apology
ESPN.com news services

The New York Knicks lifted their ban on former player Charles Oakley on Tuesday, sources told ESPN, but Oakley says he just wants an apology.

"It's not about being at the Garden," Oakley told ESPN's Jeff Goodman. "It's about the fans. I want them to apologize to the fans. I told the commissioner I want them to apologize to the fans."

Oakley said he is "in pain now. I'm hurt."

Later on The Dan Le Batard Show on ESPN, Oakley was asked whether he would go back to Madison Square Garden as Dolan's guest.

"Right now, no," he said. "I told him yesterday."

"I have never asked for nothing," Oakley added. "I love the fans in New York. They've been supportive. One of the things I told the commissioner, I want to have a press conference and I want him to apologize to me and the fans. They've had my back and they've felt the pain. I really appreciate the people all around who've had my back."

Sources with both MSG and Oakley confirmed that the ban was lifted.

That news comes after NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he and Michael Jordan spoke with Oakley and Knicks owner James Dolan on Monday to help end the public dispute between Oakley, one of the franchise's most popular players, and Dolan.

Charles Oakley, center, was forcibly ejected from Madison Square Garden and arrested on Wednesday.

Oakley was forcibly removed from Madison Square Garden and subsequently arrested last Wednesday. After the arrest, Dolan announced that Oakley was banned indefinitely from the Knicks' home arena. Oakley was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of misdemeanor trespassing. Dolan said the organization ejected Oakley because he was being verbally abusive to security while seated near the team owner. Oakley denied this in recent interviews.

After the incident, Dolan also suggested in multiple media interviews that Oakley has a drinking problem, which Oakley denied on Saturday in an interview with the New York Post.

Oakley and Dolan met with Silver at NBA headquarters, with Jordan participating by phone, the league said in a statement. It said both Dolan and Oakley apologized for the fallout from Wednesday's situation.

"Both Mr. Oakley and Mr. Dolan were apologetic about the incident and subsequent comments, and their negative impact on the Knicks organization and the NBA," Silver said.

Oakley said on ESPN that Dolan had apologized to him but added that "some things hurt. Some things just don't walk away. A dog who broke his leg isn't just going to walk away."

On Tuesday, Oakley told ESPN that he respects Jordan to the fullest and that he loves him, but he said: "I'm my own man."

The Knicks and Dolan have received criticism for the decision to ban Oakley and the public suggestion that he has a drinking problem.

Le Batard asked Oakley whether Dolan's comments hurt the most.

"That hurt my character more than the 10 guys that jumped on me," Oakley said.

Oakley didn't appear to care that the ban was lifted. He's worried about the impact of the situation on his character.

"If I was banned for the rest of my life it would have been cool. Can I walk down the streets of New York?" he said to Le Batard. "That's the most important thing."

Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said the Oakley issue has been a distraction for his players.

"Yeah, for us, it is another thing this year that has been a minor distraction," he said. "Not a big deal for our guys, they handled it pretty well, but there is always talk about it. Oak was a great player for the Knicks and hopefully some day he comes back."

Carmelo Anthony said that the Oakley situation was a new one on him, but everything about the Knicks' season has been different, from his public spat with team president Phil Jackson to the constant trade rumors.

"I haven't seen anything like that, I don't think, ever," he said of Wednesday's scene. "The situation in the Garden, on top of kind of what I've dealing with the team. It's been a lot. I said this to you guys before, it takes special people to deal with. It's only here in New York. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. I believe that."

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith and Ian Begley, The Undefeated's Mike Wise, and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

What's with your blind loyalty to a petty man who has abused employees and ruined a once proud franchise for 17 years? It's a little weird. Charles Oakley has done more for the Knicks than Dolan will ever do for them in his lifetime.

Smart move Oak .. the embarrassment of being arrested and dragged out the Garden by Dolan's goons deserve EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA

newyorker4ever @ 2/14/2017 7:37 PM
I live in the real world and see that Oak has done as much or more wrong in this whole thing then Dolan has. Dolan gives in to a guy that came into his arena and made a complete fool of himself and put his hands on guys that were just doing their jobs, was yelling racial slurs at guys that were just doing their jobs and was rude and aggressive to other employees at the arena that were doing nothing then just their jobs. A.Silver gets them to sit down and talk it out and apologize and shake hands with each other and Dolan went ahead and lifted the ban so everything was supposed to be good.....but noooooooo, now Oakley has decided to go on more media outlets and say he doesn't forgive Dolan and wants a public apology....seriously? That meeting should have ended all the wrong that Dolan did and all the wrong that Oakley did and it seems like one side (Dolan) went ahead with that but the other side has not.

I've been a Knicks fan since the early 70's and am a huge fan of what Oakley did for us on the court even though we never won a championship with him and i was good with everything just being done with after that meeting but now....not so much. Oakley needs to let it go. By the way...i'm no Dolan fan but i'm old enough to see who did what wrong here which is pretty clear even though some of you would rather let your hate for Dolan cloud your judgment to see who's wrong here.

As much as I like Oakley he has been getting in fights and trouble ever since he retired. Something happened why security came to Oakley. He didn't have to push the guard. It is rumored that Oak has a drinking problem. They shook hands and everyone thought it was over but Oakley wants more. Oakley has been a critic of the knicks for a long time and if he is telling players not to come to New York then he can stay the hell out too. Nothing Dolan does will satisfy Oakley. He has been complaining ever since he retired.

It wasn't rumored he had a drinking problem. Dolan said that and accused him of one with no evidence.

Nobody is excusing Oakley but he was provoked and Dolan has a history of treating people he doesn't like like human garbage.

Dolan doesn't do anything to satisfy anyone. Unless you call banning former players and staff, verbally abusing employees, paranoia about the media to ridiculous levels, accusing angry fans and others of alcoholism, and presiding over 17 years of embarrassment satisfying.

Dolan made terrible claims about Oakley after the event. Character asssasination. Simply saying 'ok then an is lifted' isn't good enough.

newyorker4ever @ 2/16/2017 7:06 PM
Love how now all the same people that were against Oakley when the incident first happened are now turning against him because he just won't shut his mouth and just keeps on going with his bad talk about Dolan. Why did he even bother showing up to the A.Silver meeting? Everything was supposed to be done after that meeting and he got his apology and hand shake from Dolan. Oakley just keeps making himself look more and more worse. I knew he was in the wrong from the beginning and a couple others on here did to.

You're so wrong with all of this. How do you feel about Dray Green for throwing out accusations that Dolan is a slave master?? I guess you agree with that as well just because you hate Dolan so much....lol

Oakley is a bad person.

So because they had a meeting...everything had to have been solved and has to automatically become honky-doory? You say you live in "the real world" but then make comments like this that seem really naive. I don't want to sound harsh but feel the need to be honest. You seem to have an agenda.

An agenda?? Please explain? Oakley is taking this way to far and this is a message board so i'm letting it be known that i feel he's taking it to far. I still would love to hear what kinda of agenda i could possibly have though?? Everyone has had very strong words towards Dolan and how they feel Dolan is so much in the wrong and over looking Oakley's part in this and i feel differently.

Fine, you think that Oakley is the guilty party in the matter but it seems like you take gigantic leaps of faith in an attempt to make the case. You've intimated on more than one occassion that Oakley specifically went to the game to troll Dolan, despite multiple accounts of fans stating the opposite and despite several players saying it's not Oakley's style. You've suggested that Oakley has a drinking problem but if he was drunk in the game, why haven't the police charged him with public intoxication? They tried charging him with everything they could, including trespassing as a paying customer. Yet you've accepted the MSG side of the story wholesale and then proceeded to reiterate some version of these shoddy points in as many different threads on the topic, you could find. Like I said, it feels like an agenda because of how fervent you are about the situation and how often you revert to the aformentioned talking points.

Dolan looks bad. Oak made him look bad.
Oak looks bad too. Really bad.
Both Lose. One thing we know is Dolan is a little Napoleonic shyt.
Oak is a bully who holds his self esteem up by being "Oak don't take".........

In a world where blame must be assigned and media eyeballs must be observed, I'd say who the phuck cares. Dolan is a hermit who likes to go to games.
Oak is a "Celebrity" who by being "Oak", gets more attention. I fault both of them and the whole thing bores me.
