Polite smokescreen.
LBJ is the real decision maker for the Cavs, which is why they've made such horrible moves in the first place. Trading Wiggins for Love was idiotic. There is no other way around it. Wiggins was a plus defender, a solid top shelf wing defender at the NBA level when he was drafted. This would have alleviated LBJ from needing to be the primary wing defender and avoided needing to trade for Shump and JR ( which would have avoided the need to resign JR in the first place) Wiggins would have been cost controlled as well, opening up up free agent dollars. LBJ is essentially a point power forward at this point. So paying a good young rookie asset into a max contract for a redundant position with low positional value ( i.e. also resigning Tristan Thompson, who has the same agent, to a massive deal, for an energy guy who can't defend the rim, can't shoot long range and can't play center) is just idiotic.
Trading a 28 year old All Star, who has actually shown to have adapted his game to LBJ's brand of iso crab dribble ball, for an aging no defense gunner and having that come out in public is also an idiotic move. So was signing Anderson Varejao to a nice fat extension only to have him turn into dead money and giving cash to guys like Mike Miller and burning two top picks for Mozgov.
LBJ as a defacto GM is an idiot. Just a plain idiot. He took a time with assets and created yet another poor fit, like Miami, that is resource drained and capped out.
So to cover for said idiot, instead of creating more press about Love getting traded, yet again, killing the guys overall morale, the team and Nike's marketing department, decides the best way to avoid the Love being traded discussion and LBJ trying to drive a young All Star off the team for an aging gunner who can be had for pennies on the dollar for bad contracts and cap space is to hash up any injury issues possible near the deadline to not have to shade LBJ's ego. See Love is damaged goods, LBJ was "right" to want to trade him, but now you can't trade him. Which would be an idiotic personnel move.
Why the league doesn't just let a Nike official walk onto the court and decide when LBJ should get to shoot free throws at this point is beyond me.
Love is not coming to the Knicks. If the Knicks COULD trade Melo for a Love package, they should do so in a heart beat. Love can actually adapt and play efficiently, and he's younger, and his floor is an elite stretch 4. He doesn't need to be super mobile to drop corner threes at an elite rate and he can drop corner threes at an elite rate.
As much as I hate Boston and the Patriots, and even if he's a cheater, Tom Brady actually has the charisma and media saavy to handle himself without dragging his team down and into the mud even further. He's not a complete and total idiot in the press. He's not going to have a 30 minute special dragging his team into the ground then need Nike to make commercials to make it all better. LBJ is a once in a generation player, but almost completely and totally tone deaf, while being arrogant and horrible at personnel. It's like having a petulant man child throw tantrum after tantrum and having Nike clean up mess after mess.
Kevin Love is not getting traded. This is just basic PR/marketing to make LBJ look less like a blithering idiot. Everyone in Nike's marketing department should get a massive raise. In fact, if I was in Nike's marketing department, I would love LBJ, the guy is walking job security like no other. The guy should literally never speak again. He's a complete and total idiot. That the NBA marketing structure is set up to kiss his butt relentlessly anyway is hilarious.
Only LBJ would pay 4 dollars for a 75 cent asset.
