Knicks · Bill Walton on Melo (page 1)

Vmart @ 2/16/2017 10:21 AM
Did anyone catch what he said during the Cavs-Pacers game. When asked how Melo would be on the Cavs he essentially said I don't want Melo on any team that I root for. This was the first time someone said what they really felt. Now I don't like Walton but you think he was on to something or on something.
fishmike @ 2/16/2017 10:23 AM
He's a huge Knick hater and always has been, so factor in that perspective.
Vmart @ 2/16/2017 12:34 PM
I know he hates the Knicks but I didn't expect him to hate the player.

I remember Walton being a major Knicks fan around the time of the Camby / Spree team. There was one time when the 99-00 Knicks were on a big winning streak and he started screaming "What's happening in New York is REAL!"

He might just be down on them because they're not a good team.

I think he was a JVG boy. I know once he's trashed MSG for decades. Maybe it was the Marv connection... not sure, but he's been an open loather.

Maybe he just doesn't like Melo's game which is okay because its just his opinion. Who cares.
Sambakick @ 2/16/2017 1:35 PM
The other commentator Dan Dakich loved Melo last night.

He went way over the line in attacking LJ as a human being during that finals run - can't stand him

Walton toes the line with what the masses want.

He would literally gush over Shaq when O'Neill was on the Lakers. This was when Shaq was doing Taco Bell Chalupa commercials and was at least 75 pounds overweight and waddling around and Walton would gush about how Shaq was in such magnificent condition.

Was totally bizarre. But the league wanted Shaq, Kobe and the Lakers to be the next super team, so that's how it worked out.

Walton has also softened because, as league rumors go, he wants to protect his son. Luke's personal lifestyle is his own business, but it's no huge secret in the league and many old guard people in the league will hold it against him. It's part of the reason why getting a coaching job was a bit tough for him. Walton gets a little nutso on some specific people in public in a broadcast, those elements will out his son to the press and the fallout would be internally ugly.

Why would 1 of the very best players to ever play the game and one of the truly great/unselfish team players of all time ever like Carmelo Anthony????????

Don't you guys get it --- WE DESERVE ANY CRITICISM THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVES -- regardless if you/we are a Knicks fan and may not see the disgrace we are.

It's like every year when ESPN comes out and says we will win 30 games and everyone gets all upset -- then end of year comes and we have 25 wins.

Yeah, I'm getting tired of people speaking the truth called 'haters' by delusional fans still stuck in 1995. The Knicks are the modern day Clippers, in the sense that the Clippers were a joke for 30 years under Donald Sterling. That's where the Knicks are now. The least desirable destination for players due to inept ownership.

Has Walton made a coherent statement in the last 30 years? He is such a hypocrite. He made disparaging comments about the Fab Five, yet he couldn't wait to be a rebel the first chance he got free from Wooden's control.

That is what Walton went on to say. Pretty much move the ball it's a team game. Walton felt that Melo isn't a team player and it doesn't matter where he goes. As long as he doesn't go to a team I root for.

Melo's problem is two fold.

One he does not pass much. He is not someone that sees the open man or allow teammates to get great shots because of him. This is an art great players eventually learn and Melo just never will on a consistent basis.

Two, he does not have that extra gear of competitive spirit. When his team is down 10, losing, he is usually almost always seen having a laugh or chuckle. He does not take the losing that serious. He doesn't eat, live or breathe for the game. Which is fine, it's healthy after all it's just a sport, but again the all time greats do not possess this quality.

So while I've always like Melo for being Melo, a chill guy and someone generally nice, I will be surprised if he ever wins anything as a top player on a team. He just doesn't bring the two key elements you see the all time greats bring. 1) Making teammates around him better. 2) Bring an extra gear of competitive fire.

If you compare him to tier 2 players in the league. The Kevin Love or Jimmy Butler types. He fares well. He's just as good, if not better. He's just not the #1 or "leader" material. Never has been.

Are you kidding? How many Knick teams has Melo carried by his will and determination? Does he wear down? Absolutely. Did you watch last night's game with Dakich and JVG? Dakich had a great line. He said, Carmelo Anthony is not the problem. Rose and Porzingis are talented but... KP was sick but there are a lot of things he needs to improve on. JVG on Melo, he works so hard but makes it look so easy. He is doing that against a really good nba defender with length. I guess you see what you want to see. Sometimes fresh eyes provide a good perspective.

Exactly who cares if Walton doesn't worship Melo at his altar

The Clippers? You are being too kind and generous

Right in line with my views. As long as he leaves the team I "root" for

Walton is aweful. He and Vitale called a program last nite and its too bad they did not share a cab that slid under an oil truck.

Not sure if joking - "will and spirit....Melo?"
