Rubio and another 3 or 4 mil in salary filler is enough to make a Derrick Rose trade allowed by the CBA.
Minnesota gets out from the next two years of paying Rubio and make way for their new PGs. Rose gets reunited with Coach Thibs.
Knicks get their PG of the present. A guy who can make other guys better.
And it gives the team options in the draft to fill other positions if we don't like the PG that drops to us.

Not a bad idea for this team. Rubio at least provides the insurance for the draft as you say.
I would do this... Rubio has a lot of flaws but he defends and gets guys easy shots.

it would not impact my drafting... still #1 focus is a guard. Even if we got the #1 pick I would still want a veteran there and Rubio is a nice player who doesnt need to score anyway. I think he would be a better BJ
Why has Minny given up on Rubio?
I wouldn't think twice but can't see Sota sending Rubio out for a last year contract
Rose could walk if Sota doesn't pay him the most dough
I suggested this a long time ago during the early part of our season

Apparently they really think highly of Dunn. Dunn hasn't shown much yet though.
So Rubio is not a good fit for Towns but will be okay for KP?

i don't think anyone is saying that rubio isn't a good fit for towns. the twolves are in a good position where they have a pg that they really like behind rubio and an opportunity to trade his contract at the same time. the money they get back by trading rubio would be huge where they can add to that core and not lose anything at the pg spot because they have dunn. rubio would be alot better here than rose and a good addition, especially if melo is still here. rubio is and always has been a pass-first pg, who also defends. he'd fit nicely.

While I'm a Rubio fan he simply cannot shoot well. You can say T-Wolves aren't a good fit for anyone these days.
I like Rubio only if we also move melo elsewhere - like I've said on other threads, he's a good character guy, unselfish and plays defense- provides extra leadership along with Noah and Lee, should help willy and KPs development
Also gives us options in the draft- if lucky enough we could pick Josh Jackson, and know we still had a PG. If we pick a PG he can help mentor them. Or we could go for Monk at SG- having Rubio gives us options.
Rubio plays D and passes. So that is a major plus. The minus is the lack of scoring as compared to Rose. Its probably a wash overall but Rubio may just be a better fit and his ball movement could be contagious.
don't hate the idea; don't love it
I suspect if we did this, we'd be glad to be rid of Rose and in short order we'd find things we don't like about Rubio (which include he doesn't have the "it" factor you want from a point guard)
the biggest plus is he could be a stopgap: i.e., even if we land a top stud pg in draft (a big fat IF) it's very rare for even the studs to play studly in year 1.

This. He's got 2 years left. We draft a PG prospect, let him play behind Rubio. If he's great out of the gate (not always realistic) he can play 6th man for a couple years and you can hand him the reigns when he's a 3rd year pro. Rubio is a pass first PG who defends pretty well, rebs pretty well and gets a ton of steals. He's a lousy shooter and I dont expect that to change. He's a ball mover though. We need that.

I'm sure Towns, Wiggins and Levine will LOVE playing with a pass first PG like Rose. Rose would be just what TWolves need to help team chemistry
Hahn said on his radio show the only (and he emphasised only) team he'd heard were interested in rose were the Twolves. Fingers crossed
Geez, this love affair some of y'all have with Rubio is killing me! He's not that good and you want to be stuck with him for two more years?

I'd jump all over this.
Rubio has his flaws but we won't find a better passing guard at his price/contract in free agency. He also works hard on D and I think would fit in well with Hornachek.
Think both teams would benefit in this deal.

Thibs loves Rose... the only positive is that he is the GM there as well as the coach. I could see it happening. Maybe.
One line of thought I have had is that Phil dumps Rose and Jennings somehow to drive home the point to Melo that we are rebuilding, hoping Melo will agree to waive his no trade clause right before the deadline. I expect the Knicks will trade at least one of Rose or Jennings before the deadline.

I think if the all-star weekend doesn't convince melo to go play with cp3 or LeBron, nothing will
Knicks would have to get Pekovic back. Insurance is paying his contract and he might be a retirement scenario next year. Being that we might get something extra back
