Have to agree on both accounts with the legend here.

NEW ORLEANS — Knicks legend Willis Reed knows what ails the franchise — not having Phil Jackson as its head coach.

Attending the Hall of Fame press conference Saturday, Reed, a Louisiana resident, told The Post that Jackson has assembled enough talent to win but needs a great coach. A coach like Jackson.

Reed never mentioned coach Jeff Hornacek by name, but said the Knicks aren’t getting the most out of their roster. It appeared a coded slap at the coaching staff that has stumbled to a 23-34 record at the All-Star break. Reed also endorsed Jackson’s December remarks that maligned Carmelo Anthony needs to move the ball more and take fewer contested shots in big spots.

He says that Phil Jackson should coach the team, and that the talent is not nearly as bad as the record indicates. He says Melo is a scorer, but the ball has to move.

Shame that so many don't see that the Knicks should have been much better this year. Phil put together a pretty good team. Not a great team, but when you have Melo, Porzingis, Rose, Lee. Jennings off the bench, O'Quinn. Lance Thomas as well. It was a team that with a good coaching staff and Melo/Rose playing like leading vets would have been a 4th/5th/6th seed in the East.

Probably best we went lottery, but I don't think Phil is as bad an executive when it comes to talent as he is at picking the right coaching staff for his roster. In a way just a shame we never were able to sign Kerr who was Phil's first choice. Kerr has proven to be a very good coach. Hornachek has very good vision for offense, but sort of like D'Antoni, I don't think he has leadership or defensive qualities. The team has to be a specific way for Horny to succeed similar to that of D'Antoni.
