Knicks · How badly will melo be booed if he doesn't leave? (page 1)

KP4Life @ 2/23/2017 11:53 AM
any predictions? Maybe most fans will forget after like one game at msg?
nixluva @ 2/23/2017 11:56 AM
It depends on whether rumors come out that a trade was presented but Melo declined to waive his NTC. If there was no trade then I don't expect any booing. Also depends on if the team plays better.
GoNyGoNyGo @ 2/23/2017 12:09 PM
Melo should only be booed for the way he plays the game (holding ball, lack of D effort, not making team better). His off court behavior and apparent leadership to younger players is not worthy of booing.

Absolutely

Only idiots will "boo" at Melo. He's doing what's best for him based on the contract he signed. Only a complete fool would do otherwise. Sheesh! Why do fans think players just want to help the team get value?

That said, I hope he plays terribly and helps us lose as many games as possible. A fake injury maybe? Something to limit his impact on wins.

Nalod @ 2/23/2017 12:16 PM
Not sure why he gets booed. This trade thing is way over blown BTW, Phil was smart to put it in motion that if a team Melo might want to go to blew him away, its a win-win.

For all we know, Melo might be on board with a trade given certain parameters and Phil was cool to take the heat. At the end of the day, fans need like Melo cuz they buy more tickets. Also in Grown up land: Holding the ball comment amid compliments is not a drama.

Melo will be applauded. Fans have mostly supported him unless he goes into his Bernard King ball mode and the shots don't fall. Then, he gets called out on it.

He's the best player we've had since Patrick. He's got his flaws and the Knicks suck - but boo him? He's a Hall of Famer. The Knicks have been a circus since Jimmy D came to town. I'm not going to vilify Melo for the problems that run much deeper than him. I don't think the crowd will either.

Same. If we are playing like crap he will hear it, especially when he has really bad shooting nights. He's already been booed at home for that. Thats NY. I doubt he hears much as I expect him to go on his late "its crunchtime now" hot stretch which should make the last 2-3 games of the year mean something and ensure our draft position is hosed.

Then again if we get Rubio I could see him being a spark plug that gets this thing moving. Noah and Lance get healthy and suddenly Melo is "carrying the team" when in fact he's surrounded by enough lunch pale defender types. A first round sweep by Cle will probably get a banner in MSG based on how things go with Dolan

Chandler @ 2/23/2017 12:22 PM
I hope he is not booed.

I suspect not having any trade action will be very sobering and a blow to his ego, as was the pre-season merely "15" snub (according to him).

He is a very good player and could have been a game changer for the Cavs or Clips, but as good as he is he's not worth what would need to come back per CBA rules.

knicks1248 @ 2/23/2017 12:28 PM
he's also stated he wouldn't approve a deal that would not benefit both him and the future of the franchise. melo will not let phil run him out of town, I'm sure his team is telling him the same thing.

I think majority of the fans appreciate him

CrushAlot @ 2/23/2017 12:30 PM
I hope he doesn't get booed and I don't think he will be booed.

As do most on this board with the most vocal haters having since departed

I stopped booing after I got out of Jr. High.

I'll curse a stupid play, by any player, but usually, if I see a guy making an effort, I am not going to boo.

I remember being in the stands at a Met came years ago when Gary Carter was clearly shot. He grounded out and annoyed fans were booing him, even though he ran as quickly as he could on those damaged legs of his. I remember thinking how idiotic some fans can be...the guy brought you a title, and he never stopped playing hard...he is breaking down physically, and you are booing him?

I suppose that if you a player being totally selfish and not playing for the benefit of the team and you are a paying fan, you might justify booing someone. If Anthony is clearly making selfish plays on offense, and not going hard on D, I suppose that is "boo worthy," but it would take a lot on the court for me to boo someone.

I will say this- if we were to discover that he only wanted to stay here for his brand, and was happy not winning a title, I would look at him a little differently, I suppose.

I think we already know that. Doesnt change the fact that he's a good guy and a hell of a player. The question is what is best for the Knicks moving forward.

I agree and think fans that boo Melo are the real jokers and i'm sure other players that see them booing a guy like Melo who's the only star player left that actually wants to be in New York would never want to play here knowing they could get booed by his own fans.
