Mavs essentially turned a 23-year-old 21st overall pick and 2 2nd-rounders into a 22-year-old 6th overall pick.

Like what?? A #1 pick for a guy you need to pay the max for?? Would have been a awful trade for us. Noel is still so unproven and to pay a max contract in a yr. No way.

Sources: If Sixers do not receive Mavs top-18 protected pick this season, it converts to 2 2nd-round picks: Mavs 2nds in 2017 and 2018

He won't get the max and being restricted helps to keep suitors at bay.

Restricted this yr. Unrestricted next yr. In this environment of the NBA where money is all over he will get the max or close to the max

Cap didnt go up like they thought... this wont be like last year. That being said you can see an idiotic team like Sac give him 4/$120mm

Terrible trade by Philly. Especially since they absolutely could have received a 1st round pick from him last summer for example. They held onto him too long, if their plan was to turn him into a future pick.

I don't think they had a plan... the younger Colangelo didn't get that job because he earned it

Blame Hinkie- if you draft 3 PF/Cs, you are never going to get great value, because they can't all play starter minutes, they get annoyed and don't want to re-sign and other teams know you have to get rid of them.

So from all the tanking they did, they ended up wth Embiid (good but injury risk and missed 2 years), OK4 who they can't get anything for (and would have moved for a mid first), and Noels who they ended up swapping for a player who was drafted 21. Terrible stuff- can't believe there been a movement of people saying Hinkie was right!
