It's those nets games that will decide our destiny, but I still worry about us winning some unexpected games
I got some pangs of concern in the 4th quarter against the Jazz. But our utter lack of defense, and the now total disjointed state of "confusion" among our players prevailed and kept our tank hopes alive and well. In fact, we're up to 6th now and will hopefully end the season at 4 or 5.
UPDATE: Knicks move into the 6th spot and this road trip TANK is going great guns! We surely lose in San Antonio on Saturday then come a run of games against teams competing for play off spots in the East; Pistons, Heat x2, Celtics, Bulls and Wizards. We finish with Grizzlies, Raptors and potentially a tank game for the ages against the 76ers. Lose the lot and I'm sure we end in 4th spot.

Imagine we finally somehow overtake the Sixers and draw even with the magic. The coin toss goes in our favor, we rejoice and go into the lottery with the 4th best chance. Then the Sixers and Magic leapfrog us for 1st and 3rd, and we drop to 6th.
I am going to start keeping quiet about our end position, because there is a chance we could fight to land 4th and 5th, but get leapfrogged by teams we over take- and bizarrely, it seems the single most probable outcome is to actually fall a spot:

This **** is nerve wracking!
Weren't we the only team that fell from our predicted spot when we got KP? Cant blame you guys at this stage of the season for developing a nasty of tankitis, but don't forget that luck plays the biggest part.

There are no guarantees in the luck department. The only "control" we have are statistical (i.e., losing out to improve our odds). THAT is what we must do. The rest is up to fate. And we're in no worse position in that regard than anyone else. Lottery = luck. But if we end up at 4, that's an entirely acceptable draft spot for us. We won't get the top 3 studs, but we will have our pick of the rest. And who knows, maybe one of the 3 alphas slip to 4.

Even some "control" over the record isn't really control. Cleveland getting multiple top picks in spite of their record. Getting KP, instead of Okafor because we didnt have a higher spot in the draft. Luck could come in an unexpected way. A high pick isn't necessarily the only way the Knicks can come out on top.
If there is one area where Im confident that Phil and his staff will make the right move, its the draft. If it was Layden, Mills, or Dolan to some extent making the call, I'd probably be more concerned about where we end up picking.

I still wonder- does that count as good luck, bad luck or neutral? We were the only team, the ONLY team to fall, yet it meant we got KP instead of Russell or OK4. The actual lottery was brutal for us- the team that just overtook us at the end of the season in lottery standings, ended up with the 1st pick and we fell all the way to 4th in what was regarded as a 3 man draft! It worked out okay in the end though

I agree that a high pick would be great, but I dont believe its the only way we can come away with the best fit for the team. I still believe Russell will be a special player, don't know if you saw his 40 pt game, (he broke some Laker records with that one) but I now doubt he could have handled NY in its current state. Okafor, I still believe can play, but doesn't bring as much to the table as KP.
Like you said, it was thought to be a 3 man draft, anything can happen.
It's gonna come down to the mother of all tank games last game vs 6ers. Gonna have to put in Ndour and Kuz at 1-2.

We should start Plumlee, NDour, Kuz, Holiday and Little Jimmy.
Let the sixers suck on that.
I'm hoping the Heat are healthy for both games against us next week. Whiteside got injured yesterday and Waiters has been injured. I worry they will say, "it's the Knicks, let's rest these guys and still get the win". We need

Yes it all comes down to luck, but we should still do what we can to improve the odds. This is how I look at it, if you are the 4th place team the worst you can do is pick 7th. If you are the 9th place team you could be picking 12th. It doesn't hurt to focus on getting the best odds you can have.

I don't think this works this way. We are sixth in the draft if we don't land a top 3 pick, the best we can do is 6th regardless of what else happens.
We have a 21% chance of getting in the Top 3, we have zero chance of getting Picks 4 or 5.
See the chart on this link, if a square has no number in it, we have no shot at that pick.http://www.tankathon.com/pick_odds
