Knicks · What if: Young Knicks into the future (page 1)

True believers! If you guys read Marvel comics you know who this guy is... Uatu "The Watcher".

So many scenarios can happen in this world. I just want to focus on the positive.

Phil has been quietly laying a foundation... getting young guys here and there. As of March 2017 we have Kristaps, Willy, Baker, Chasson mixed in with some good vets. Alot of good people. This off season we are projected to get at least one youngin in the 1st round, 2in the second... possibly more via trade or underrated rookies. We also have players growing in the d- league. What if these young Knicks actually grow into a power house under the vision of Chief Triangle?

It's all very possible.

Pencil it in.....

Pf: Kristaps
Sf: Tatum? Possibly someone from a Melo trade Jahlil Brown?
C : Willy
Pg: Chasson Randle
Sg: Allonso Trier?

Baker... Jovanovic... we have a chance to get some nice upperclassmen in the second round. Some undrafted guys. I could add more.

This is a dream sequence. A possible reality out of the million other possible realities....

Can you add to this?

I'm certainly happy about these younger players potential. So much more fun to watch the youngsters develop and perform better in many ways to the old heads.

By the way I'm still ticked off they didn't show Galactus in the Fantastic Four movie with the Silver Surfer

I'm a huge fantastic four fan. I'm disappointed overall with the way they just wrote off the comic. The movies were so pathetic. I really hope they plan on getting then involved after this infinity war thing. I hope marvel gets their rights back and make a tradition version.

Hopefully they spin off the Hulk and get planet Hulk going.

I'm happy with the win yesterday even though it hurt us. Let's you know that there will be life after Melo wether it's the same or worse or better All I know is what the Knicks are with Melo won't work so better to try another approach

Knixkik @ 3/7/2017 9:59 AM
The young guys remain Phil's saving grace. While he has failed with trades, free agency, and culture change, it's tough to argue he has given the Knicks their best young talent in 30 years.

Thor Ragnorok(sp?) Is supposed to have elements of planet hulk. It will be interesting to see how they work that in.

First thing is KP's position. Tough call. I think he may be a starting 5 longterm. That means Willy comes in off the bench, and they play together a little but KP does not play his most minutes at 4, he plays them at 5. That means Willy and O'Quinn play the rest of the minutes at 5. If Willy becomes really good you probably move O'Quinn next season by deadline. I really like O'Quinn. Don't even wanna talk about the fact that we have Noah.

I think Lance with his corner 3 and defense has shown he is a starting level player for us in impact. Team has played so much better since Lance returned, especially as a starter.

What we then need is a 4 or 3 that fits with KP/Lance. Tatum may be that guy, but lets see where we draft.

I like Randle and Baker, but they are backups IMO. Youth wise we need to go find starter level talent 25 or under for the 2 and 1 spots if we're looking for a youth movement.

Overall, I think we make a good Melo trade that gives us a draft pick and one starter 25 years old or younger, we're on the right track. We can either keep Rose at currently salary and let him walk and use capspace to sign someone young maybe who can start. But until we trade Melo, forget about a real youth movement. You think last night would have happened with Melo? Sure we may have won with him, but no way do you see Randle, and the 2nd unit play for that extended period and those kind of freedom with Melo on the court with them. And you saw KP get more touches in the post/mid-range where usually Melo gets them in the Triangle.

I'm still not a fan of O'Quinn. He has some nice games - passing, blocking, shooting from deep mid-range and I'm not sure how his advanced stats are decent but they are; I just don't seem him as a player that can long term change his game enough to fit on a team that goes deep into the playoffs. Maybe as a 4th big off the bench at the price of his current contract, but not at $10M for which he will seek in 2 years. He makes too many mental mistakes over and over and over again that are the same and haven't changed much in 2 years (just his conditioning and weight have changed). Often times just loses his man for no reason; sits in the paint when his guy has the ability to knock down the 20 foot jumpshot, must take like 3 pump fakes just to go up for a layup, takes 10 seconds just to gather himself underneath the rim.

Also, for me, Lance can become a good bench player, a 7th/8th guy in your rotation IF he figures out how to play within himself. I think this still may have to do with the Knicks just being so poor defensively and LT feeling like he needs to make up for everyone else, so he seems to overplay defensively. Takes too many drives to the basket which are certainly not his forte. He is a very good spot up jumpshoot and I'd wish he'd stay in that mode more often.

The Knicks have flexibility at the center position long-term. KP is most likely a center. So is Willy. But they can obviously play together too. My guess is KP is the full-time starting center and plays about 34 mpg. Willy probably plays 28 mpg, which would give him 14 minutes playing exclusively center, and 14 minutes sharing the floor with KP. Seems like the best compromise. O'Quinn is probably not a long-term piece here. Noah is basically a situational backup. Plumlee is depth on the back end of the roster.

Thank you for having some optimism which is hard to find in any Knicks fans these days.

Hardest position to get in the NBA these days is a young stud PG.

I truly hope we can snag one in the draft. Lonzo Ball could be a dream for KP and Willy... Fultz seems like he could be a star as well. Dennis Smith I've seen less, but he could be good, too. Even the Kentucky duo of Monk and Fox seem like they have star or at least above average player potential. IF we could get one of those five guards... our fortunes could be drastically changed next season.

I think Randle is a keeper, but likely a good guard off the bench.

I can play both roles but I really enjoy talking about the game and how everything comes together. It annoys me when people try everything to be extra negative. That's when I start acting like a savage. All a part of being a forum contributor.

I have a slightly different tactic. I think we need to go after one of these top SF's. We have to prepare for AFTER MELO. There are some really good guards that will be available later. For instance I really like Bruce Brown of Miami or Isaiah Briscoe of Kentucky. These are guards that can do everything and have leadership qualities as well. That's just my own personal approach to this draft.

I am just taking the best wing available... there are both guards and SG/SF types also. I mean we could miss on the great PGs and draft the next Kawhi Leonard... we just need to do our due dill and make a good pick.

I have been pretty happy with our drafts under Phil. He will have a lot to work with this year.

I wonder how the "Future Foundation" works into that equation 🤔....

Technically it isn't the fantastic four. Might be a good way to rebrand into tv's films
