Actually scares me even more about this guy. Players really don't learn to shoot in the NBA. I don't want another player with a bad outside shot --Shumpert, Darrell Walker, Rondo, Payton on Orlando is terrible partly/mostly because he can't shoot. Such a liability.
Yeah i have gone back and forth on him a bit. His potential is crazy, and he's just so good at everything but shooting, sometimes the focus is too much on that. His shooting form and free throw percentage tells me he will become an adequate shooter, but generally speaking, i don't like guys who can't shoot. It is probably the main reason i prefer Ntilikina over him right now, and Bridges over Tatum. But we will see. I believe eventually having KP at center, and 5 guys starting who all shoot 38+ % from 3pt is the future of success for this team.

Some guys can really improve their shot. It's definitely a liability though. I love Fox otherwise.

Who? In the article they even state improving your shooting really doesn't happen. Kidd improved but it really was more of an outside set shot when he was wide open.

For me Rose's inability to shoot the 3 at a good clip isn't the real problem, it's the passing and defense for his usage.
Toronto is AOK with DeRozan and he is a not good 3pt shooter.
Jason Kidd developed his outside shot in the NBA. It can be done.

My point is why draft a kid that can't light it up from the outside. Its not a ringing endorsement of Rose.
Rose MVP year he averaged almost 8 dimes a game. Post acl he went to mid 4's.

I think you can make marginal improvements on your shot. Like I think you can go from "pretty good" to "really good." I don't think you can go from "good" to "great" though

It's unlikely but there are always exceptions to the rule like Kawai Leonard who has turned into one of the best shooters and scorers in the league.

If he never develops a reliable shot, he will still have a Rubio-type impact in the league, due to his size, speed, playmaking, and defense. And he's a much better athlete and better finisher than Rubio. His lack of jumper is a major problem, but he's still going to be a good player.

Michael Redd is another guy who made huge improvements. It depends on why the shot is off. Is it a hitch, balance, elevation.... The scouts have to do their homework. I wonder if someone like Monk could be a better fit if the team remains dedicated to the triangle?

My impression of Fox is that he is a Derrick Rose in Brandon Jennings's skinny body. They only way I'd want the Knicks to draft him is to then immediately trade him.

They usually fill out some. Jennings not so much. Lets see what Gaines comes up with.

Hes probably a top 6 pick so I think its improbable that hell even be in the discussion. You can be a winning PG without the best 3 point shot. Hes really good defensively and he can finish at the rim. The bet is he has more upside than a similar player Elfrid Payton. If we draft Elfrid Payton its not terrible but you start the game with liabilities.
I think we can find a solid steady PG--we do not need a star there unless its Ball. Right now lets see what Baker and Randle can do.

Jason Kidd came into the league a terrible shooter and developed into a 40%+ three point shooter later in his career. Jerian Grant's shot is improving by leaps and bounds in Chicago. Lebron James used to be a terrible shooter, now he's a knock down shooter from mid-range. It's not standard, but it can happen.
I agree it's a big red flag on Fox, particulary in today's league. Though I think it may also cause teams to overlook him and he may get overly devalued because of it.

I don't understand the Payton comp that gets brought up from time to time. They look a little alike i guess, and are built alike, but their games are not similar. And Payton wasn't even on NBA radars until his jr year. He played at a small school and it took him a couple of years for him to develop into an NBA prospect. Fox has been a dominant freshman PG playing at Kentucky. Payton wouldn't even sniff the lottery in this draft.

Draft Express has him at 8 right now. Draft.net has him 7th. I think the tournament will determine a ton about the ranking in the top ten.
The Elfrid Payton similarity is there, though... to me that's the low end of what he can be, I think he can be a lot better, but he's got similarities. I definitely see a little Rondo in him, and a little Schroder. He can be a piece on a good team, but probably not the focal point a guy like Ball or Fultz would be.
