Just thinking

These 3 guys are in the exact same situations with their respective teams. All 3 are currently on franchises with very little direction, long drawn out plans that don't have them truly contending for who know's when. Even though they are young, they don't seem to be leaders in any remote fashion.

When I think of Ewing, Hakeem, shag, malone, Dave Robinson, duncun, these guys miss the playoffs maybe once in their entire careers, and they played for 12+ plus yrs. Those guys took their teams to the playoffs a yr or less after entering the league, had 1 or 2 ployoffless seasons overall.

I don't know, just seems like these guys put up numbers in losses, then head back to the draft, to get another young 19 yr old, to develop him and head back to the draft.

The playoffs brings boys to men real fast, that's how you develop players, you can't even argue this because (hopefully) most of you on this board have watched those guys from the prime to the end of their careers. They may not have all won rings, but that came in having a legit shot every yr.

Is it just because it's a small ball league? I don't know what it is, but i don't see these guys staying put for the long hual, especially in today's era. Teams are making money, hella cap space, and the players are buddy buddy. Can't be a franchise player if you are not taking your team to the playoffs in yr 1 or 2, how good are you if your team is back at the top of the draft, your just a small piece to the puzzle.

Think melo was in the playoffs up til phil, im not sure though..

Basketball is a team sport. It is not boxing or tennis.
Team wins not the player no matter how good he is.
And TEAM is a lot of things.
Great talents giving organizations the CHANCE of greatness.
Will it be realized or lost is another story.

Today you have a lot of very young players coming out of college and joining teams that don't have the talent or experience to be playoff teams. Also some players are HOF caliber and others are very good but perhaps not on that level. Only time will tell.

Let's not forget that the Warriors core is based on 3 drafted players!!! They were then able to add quality players around them and another elite player in KD BUT IT ALL STARTED WITH THE DRAFT!!!

Ewing, Hakeem, shaq, malone, Dave Robinson,duncan...aside from Shaq, all of them are 4 year college players. That is why they were able to show leadership early in their careers. I think KP, AD and KAT have shown some form of leadership but has not fully embraces due to them being younger than everybody else. I fully expect AD to lead his team next year. KP and KAT I believe will start leading in 2 more years.

Yup Yup. You need to draft well and sprinkle in vets via free agency.

GSW first free agent signing under new ownership was David Lee.
They also did not give up on Curry when he had injury that looked chronic.
Iggy was a very important signing.
GSW also knew when to change the coach when he was stagnating the culture.
It all adds up with leadership. It also was controversial at times, especially moving from Mark Jax.
That Phil Jax is only here 3 years and had to tear down more and.......Have less assets to work with its only fan expectation and media whoring that perhaps gives us dissatisfaction.
This shyt takes time.

Yes, Players are not golfers or Tennis pro's, Basketball is a team game. Knicks future it cloudy so we can't be excited.

Probably whoever leaves their current team first.

Hmmm..I am very excited with our future. KP and Willy can be part of a very good starting 5. Baker, Kuz, Randle, Lance Thomas, KOQ, Holiday, CLee are all very good rotational players that can stay or be moved to better the team. Rose being efficient is the key. I still don't like him but for a reasonable contract I would sign him.

Really Melo is the key here. If he stays then you need a long SF that can protect him. LT might be that player but I would prefer a SF around 6'10" ala Derrick McKey.
