Knicks · Begley: PJax teaching some Knicks guards the triangle yesterday (page 1)

CrushAlot @ 3/10/2017 12:44 PM
If you're looking for more evidence that the Knicks are committed to running the triangle: team president Phil Jackson was teaching some Knicks guards the offense for about a half hour before an informal team workout yesterday, per league sources. It seems clear that Jackson is intent on running the triangle, as sources with knowledge of the workout told ESPN that he was hands on in instructing the offense with Knicks guards before the workout. Jeff Hornacek has acknowledged that the team has run more often triangle lately. He says he welcomes Jackson's input, but a team president conducting a workout with players is not the norm around the NBA.

Why the H can't Phil let Jeff coach the way he wants to?

I want a system that emphasizes ball movement. I want to watch pretty basketball like Dallas used to play, like GS plays & MDA coaches.

But, not when that system is forced on the team and the coach. That won't work.

I agree. I wonder if Sasha and Randle get more minutes now. I think Randle should be getting 15 or more minutes a game. I don't think Sasha should be on the team or have a roster spot at this point but triangle emphasis and Rosen's comments about Sasha could mean Sasha gets more playing time.

I think Sasha plays too hard and is too scrappy of a player for us to play down the stretch. I'd be worried if him, Lance, and O'Quinn are on the court at the same time. That's just too much spirit and effort and grit on the court at once. I'd much rather have lazy guys who won't box out, dive on the ground, fight through picks, sprint back for transition defense receive playing time as would i be okay with unproven rookies getting playing time (Baker, N'Dour, Willy, Randle, Kuz).

I'm being 100% serious, too, by the way. This is what this season has become.

So if Randle Baker Lee and guys like that are likely back next year know the offense well it's a bad thing?

I guess it depends on your perspective. Should Jeff be coaching the team without interference? Is Rambis coaching the triangle in practice and the defense not enough for Phil? Should Phil be scouting college players in March instead of teaching the triangle when he has a coach in place and he put his best friend on the staff as the top assistant?

How many GMs have 11 rings? Interference? What if JH asked? What if Phil just wanted to be around his players? What is the point in having a BB guy like Phil Jackson if any time he interacts with players people cry "interference???"

I guess if Phil is doing it it must be a bad thing.

What if Jeff asked Phil? What if Phil and Jeff were talking and the topic came up and Phil volunteered?

One of the best fucking coaches of all time and people have a problem with him dipping into practice to run a few sets? What is wrong with this? Are we so jaded?

Put me in the jaded group. Phil is a hof coach but that isn't his job. He is an executive now. The only guy that I can think of that is an exec with tremendous coaching success is Riley. Riley did leave the office and coach. If Phil wants to do that it would be great. But if he doesn't I wish he would focus on being an executive.
nixluva @ 3/10/2017 2:30 PM
Phil can walk and chew gum at the same time! He's got an entire staff in the front office and they do much of the actual day to day work. If he's getting hands on with the roster he put together isn't that a good thing?

Also Phil is teaching the ENTIRE COACHING STAFF in addition to the players! None of them know more or have done more than Phil.

First of all he did the same thing last season with Galloway, dwill, grant, and they were gone a couple months later.

Here's another problem why the hell are they not focus on defense, that's the major problem, not the offense.. That's why this team will never go anywhere. Coach the damn team or take a hike, this is just so bad..

They have issues on offense as well as on D so they should work on both. Phil is helping where he is strongest and there's nothing wrong with that. If the Knicks were top 5 on offense then I doubt Phil would be on the court.

Biggest issue on D is effort level of Melo and Rose. Can't fix that with coaching. You either give a damn or you don't. Can't coach effort. The rest of the team is giving much greater effort.

O.T. Martin did you lose power with the storm? I have been off work the past two days because of the storm. We were without power until about 3:00 pm yesterday.

Im in the city and everything was AOK for me. I know some who lost power for about a day and then on and off for another. I was driving around town yesterday afternoon for errands - big mistake - and there were large areas without stop lights and that absolutely sucked. I think the suburbs were more affected

Makes no sense. Mentoring and information sharing happens at all levels and and in all situations. Thats part of good culture. These imaginary lines people have invented are silly tools that allow you to continue trolling when there is no new material. Just make something up!

When I left work on Wednesday my windshield was cracked from something blowing into it. My ride home was pretty nasty. I accidentally drove under a down power line that was sitting on the roof of a big truck. I also saw a good size tree just fall onto the road 200 yards in front of me. I have never experienced anything like it.

While I agree with you in principle, I am okay with seeing how this plays out. For better or worse Phil is here and he happens to be the preeminent expert on the system he wants installed.

I think a big part of his success as a coach was that he had carte blanche and complete freedom to do what it was that he did. So I do get where you're coming form and think that it is beyond ironic that he's denying his coach the one thing that made Phil as successful as he was

OK just a point of clarification here. Phil was not the offensive coach of the Bulls when Phil 1st took over. For MUCH of his career he had Tex Winter teaching the offense and over the years Phil became an expert in the Triangle on his own. But this arrangement with Jeff is the same as it was for Phil at the start!!!

It makes JH look incompetent, like he doesn't know how to teach his own system, oh wait, it's not his system. It's one thing to go behind close doors and teach JH some tips, but to do it in front of the players, that not a good look
