C-- KP Willy G Kyle O J Noah M Plumlee
PF -- none
SF--C Anthony Lance Thomas M Kuz M Ndour
SG Courtney Lee Justin Holiday Sasha Vucevic
PG Rose Baker Randle
So we have 5 centers 4 small forwards 3 shooting guards and 3 PG's
So let's add Isaac. He seems like a good fit.
Fox or Frank wouldn't be bad either.
As long as whoever it is plays defense.

The center position is set. KP and Willy cover the majority of the minutes. We are stuck with Noah and Plumlee offers depth. O'Quinn will be gone this summer i bet.
With talent like KP and Willy covering the center minutes, we can easily compliment them at the forward slots with guys like Lance, Kuz, and more like them.
It's the guard positions we need to build up. We are bad. Randle and Baker are nice depth pieces. Same with Lee and Holiday. But we need elite guards. We have been struggling in that area for years. Hopefully one of these guards in the draft can get us started.

Rose is gone.
Melo is gone if he wants to go.
Sasha will probably be back if Phil asks. Sasha wants to play though. He might go back over seas.
Holiday wants to play too. The Knicks have been short changing him in minutes this year.
Ndour looks great one second and horrible the next. What is his game? I want him around the same way I want Plumlee is war around... but guys have tho get better.
KOQ has been our most consistent player this year. His minutes have been horrible too. I can't see him going unless we can improve the club. He had done all the right things his second year with us. I feel similarly about Courtney Lee.
Our young guys have to improve... they have to want it. If they can grow towards their potential we'll be fine. Eventually everything will fall into place

You've spent years saying melo is a PF but now you're listing him as a SF to make some sort of point?
Hopefully Rose and Melo are gone next year. I'd like to bring back Holiday and disagree that he's been short-changed minutes. I have no opinion yet of N'Dour. I think it would be good to have Sasha back and would like Plumlee back because of his practice work-ethic.
Personally, i think Kuz might be traded or cut. It seems like the Knicks have soured on him. If he was 22 years old instead of 27 it probably would be a different story.

I agree about Kuz. His name being in trade rumors and Rosen's comments make me think the Knicks will move him if they can. I think you will get your wish with Sasha. He turns 34 next March but seems to be tenured into his spot on the roster as long as Phil is around.
This is our roster right now heading into the summer. Assuming Rose is let go in free agency, and Melo is on the trade block,
Hernangomez/Noah/O'Quinn
Porzingis/Thomas
SF/Lee/Kuzminskas
SG/Holiday
PG/Baker/Randle
I see the need for a new starting 3, 2 and 1. We can strengthen our bench by bringing Noah, Thomas and Lee off it. Assuming that we could actually get better starters at 3 and 2 than Thomas/Lee.
So with about $25 million in capspace assuming Rose is not re-signed, then we look to trade Melo. I think the team would need atleast 3 starting level players at 3, 2 and 1. I wouldn't count the lottery pick as a starter. because it could be someone that is not ready to play big minutes right away.
Being positive/optimistic:
We would trade Melo for 1 starter at 3 or 2.
We would draft a starter in the lottery at 1 or 2.
We would use the capspace money to sign one starter at whatever position is of need after the Melo trade and picking our lottery pick.
Likely we put forth another 30 win roster, only with potential if players like KP/Willy/Lottery pick and other new starters show better play we maybe win 8-10 more games and get into the playoff race. Or we don't do better than 30 wins and stay in the lottery another season. Which is fine by me, because we're on the right path so long as we keep drafting well.
IMO....
The Knicks should be feeling out the rest of the league relative to Willy-H's value.
Let's say we were to get lucky at land pick #5 in the draft --- and if lucky...lets say we pick J-Tatum at #5 (I think he'll be gone but lets just say).
Now say we get to pick #11 in the draft and maybe a guy like Frankie/Fox/Monk is sitting there --- it's possible another team (in need of a young center) might value Willy-H over the pick.
Knicks move Willy for pick and say we grab Frankie-N.
Knicks leave the draft with KP (C) -- Tatum (SF) and Frankie (PG) -- all ready to grow together.
And we still have Noah/KOQ/Plumlord to back up KP at center next year.

You have not been watching. Willy and KP on floor together spells 19 3pt makes. We are committed to Lee at 2. But your right, we need a new 3 and 1. And if you trade Melo (Low chance) then you will need a new 4. Lot of needs. And don't count on anyone wanting to come here as free agent (except for guys like Noah) with the Uncle Phil show and how he has treated his players and coaches.

That's s a 20-25 win team. You need an athletic 4 to play with KP at 5. Willy is a fantastic 20 minute back up 5-4 if we kind of steal the Spurs model a bit.
I think we need a serious injection of athletic ability--and personally I like bigger players. Other than KP I dont like any of your starters. Lee can be a starter but we have seen his inconsistency and lack of material effect.

That's great. The Knicks need a 20-25 win team next year too truth be told.
The Knicks and many Melo fans thought they had a 45-50 win team this year.
You never know what the team is.
How can you even judge a team I listed that said
SF/SG/PG as starters? lol
We don't know who those starters could/will be. Lets see. Before the 2015 season we thought our 4th pick KP would be a nonfactor. He wound up being a 14/7/2 starter right away. That team was a 20 win team had KP not been able to start right away.
We don't know what this team will look like after a lottery pick, after a Melo trade (if that happens) and after the free agency signings. After that, I can have a guess as where we will be.
As Martin said, even if we don't end up good, the best part is we have our draft picks, we have KP/Willy/2017 lotto pick developping, and we may have added some more young longterm pieces through a Melo trade. IE we just don't know what the final roster, and starting 5 will be like fall of 2017.
If Rose and Melo played a little better, and the Knicks did indeed get the 8th or 7th seed and were than blasted out of the playoffs and were left with the 15-17th pick... is that better or worse than have a tank of a season?
I want another tank of a season IF they can't get rid of Melo.
In a league where speed and athleticism are at a premium, KP and Wily, at 4 & 5 won't work. Worry about your best player in the draft and if it's Monk fox or Tatum thank your lucky stars. I'd keep Lee on more year but the truck is officially backed up. Please Melo head out of town, O'Quinn has some value. Randle and Baker stay and if we can secure Fox and A pF as either a FA or late first rounder, like the Dude from Purdue that would work. Rose is gone, Holiday too.
