I actually like rose more than I did when he played for Chicago. I just think he is horrible for this system. I think 80% of the NBA will never be able to play in this system. phil will never find 12 guys that will fit, it's always going to be a case of half the roster getting it, and the half oppose to it.

If the triangle offense keeps Teague away from signing here then kudos to Phil Jackson. Teague has never impressed me...ever. I want no part of him. He's so unappealing and will not make this team better. The best moves the Knicks can make in free agency this year is not signing anyone just for the sake of signing anyone.
Signing Jeff Teague would be the typical plan C signing that is supposed to appease the fans who are made to think they got a former all-star who wants to come to NY. Then, when Knicks fans watch him every night and see how putrid he is, then they'll lambaste Phil and Mills for signing him.

The only thing different from rose MVP SEASON and now is that he doesn't dunk. I always weigh the negatives and the positives...if a person has 5 negeatives and 2 positives then my decision is base on the negatives..
If your wife or girl friend has more negatives them positives are you going stay with her..I stayed despite everybody telling me she was bad very bad, I thought I knew more than they did..deep down I knew they where right, but I was so busy basing my decision on potential... I waisted 6 yrs of my life hoping..

IMHO, the Knicks would be better off with a PG in the "Ish Smith" range. Smith is not an elite player. Not even sure I'd call him moderately good. He's functional, he understands his role and he's making 3 years/18 million, so 6 million a year.
The enduring question is if you can get 75 percent of the production of a "name brand" player for 20 percent the cost using a "non name brand" player. Obviously Smith would be more than 20 percent, but you get where I'm going with this. If Smith got consistent usage, would his production against someone like Rose be worth the difference in 14 million a year? 10 million a year? etc etc.
Also a non name brand player will not likely command a full four year deal to sign. Which is huge, in terms of future flexibility.
I think if the Pistons had been able to trade Reggie Jackson, Smith would show much more value than he has so far.
Again, he is not an elite talent, but he knows his role, which is super important in a team format. Lance Thomas has grit, but he doesn't always know his role and it shows. There are times Thomas shoots the ball and I have clue what the guy is doing. He's often pushing outside of his capabilities and not playing the way that got him that contract in the first place.
There will always be gems to be had, in the 4th and 5th tiers of FA, but I think the Knicks need a better and more committed executive than Phil Jackson to realize those kind of players.
The Knicks can score. They can't defend. They are better off with a pg who distributes and gets others involved. I want no part of guys like Teague or Reggie Jackson. I'd personally rather have someone like TJ McConnell, Elfrid Payton, or Rubio. None of them can shoot but if they makes shots easier for others than they are more valuable. I'd be okay with guys like Jrue Holiday or George Hill but I wouldn't overpay them and to sign them you are going to have to overpay by a lot. No thanks. We have all our draft picks; we don't have to rush and make an impulsive move that will cripple,us long term.

Rose is not going to take Lee money or even Noah money to play for the Knicks...he's going to want a max contract, or close to it. Makes no sense to pay a poor defender who cannot distribute the kind of money he is going to want.
I'd pay Rose 20$M a year IF he had shown two things consistently this year
1- Leadership
2- Passing the ball to open teammates
He has played selfish basketball. He has not shown much if any leadership.
He had two nice weeks and he has some games that tempt you to think he may get it. I don't feel it's been enough. I've gone back and forth, but I don't see him as a solution. That said, I've asked this many times. If the Knicks just let Rose walk, and they trade Melo, who will be the primary off the dribble creator for the team? KP is not that player. We need someone to create, to make things happen. Rose is that guy. He is more valuable without Melo, less valuable with Melo.
Either way, I hope we get the player that I want (who can create off the dribble) via the draft. In free agency, I think we have no shot in hell of getting a better player than Rose like say a George Hill or Gordan Hayward or someone like that. Those guys will go to playoff teams or stay with their own teams who can pay them more.

Teague sucks. You realize Hawks kept Skeletor instead of him.

Leadership and passing is not a 20M player.....Unless your name is Magic Johnson, John Stockton or Chris Paul......Point guards are becoming extinct. So the league will only be guards and forwards.
A 6'6 Rose who can defend other 6'6 guards, and has the same no passing offense, but gets buckets is a 20M player......
The problem with Rose is he's a tweener.....And the only way he can get max money, is by attacking the rim and scoring......Thats why he was the number 1 pick.......It has nothing to do with his passing or defense! This is also why he has a higher tendency for injuries!
I wouldn't mind having Rose play SG for us next year....But he would rather play in a system that fits his game and where he can make more money. So Rose is not a good fit for us! I hope we are smarter than that. We can't max out a undersized SG, especially when we already have Lee and other cheaper SG's like Holiday, who plays their role.
I can see why Phil took a flyer on him:
1. Former elite player
2. health on the upswing
3. Potential stagnated by injury and focus on getting back to previous level before adding more tools.
The one thing most of us were worried about was his health, and he has shown an elite athletic ability.
He is not playing good defense and his assist numbers are down from his prime.
The mental aspects of AWOL, not receptive to the system, and teams win loss record tells me we not resigning him.
For matter, if we can't win with Melo or rose, why are they here?
