Knicks · Everybody predicted this team to be in the lottery, so we were bad from the start (page 1)

If we can agree on that, then we should be able to agree that this roster was a dumb idea. I just went and looked at the predictions across the boards. I couldn't believe how many media outlets had us winning in the mid 30's, which is right where we are headed.

Health wasn't that much of a major concern, which was really everyone's concern coming in. So I don't understand why we are all going back and forth about melo and rose, and in all reality, no one thought this roster was more than a lottery team from the gate.

There 2 pieces were missing that make all the difference

1)Glue guy-both ends
2)Leader

Were Toast until that happens

CHEMISTRY

My hope and expectation was run the triangle with no other consideration, lose games and keep pushing until the light went off. Thats how many of phils teams took to the triangle.
Perhaps it was wrong to compromise. Just in theory in hindsight.
Problem is the talent on paper was good enough to make playoffs.
Bench proved to be a strength where it was seen as weakness preseason.

They were thinking lottery based on Rose's injury past and play. Rose stayed healthy, had his best best season in comparison to his previous 4, and we couldn't even meet the low end of the expectations. Even those who said lottery were thinking 35-38 wins, and in the 12th-13th spot in the lottery, not 5/6/7 where we may end up.

I think we were doomed chemistry wise the moment Noah was hurt in camp and Rose had the rape civil trial in camp. The team never played well with the two of them nor had practice time with them. Jennings ran the team better it was clear from the start.

It's all for the best, in my opinion. Making the playoffs as an 8th seed would be nice for KP and Willy, but they would have been toast. The draft pick they will get at 5/6/7 will be more talented than at 15/16/17. They may even have more capspace seeing as they will look to let Rose walk, and probably trade Melo for a young player, draft pick and maybe some cap savings.

Revisionist history at its finest. I think the overwhelming number of the people on the board criticized the ESPN rankings that had us at 37 wins and were suggesting we'd be 4th or so in the standings if Rose and Noah were healthy. Up until recently, both were healthy and we still sucked- thankfully so. We should've been tanking from the jump.
