Knicks · Dolan freaks out on fan (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 4/5/2017 7:25 PM
Jesus when is the NBA going to step in and put this guy out to pasture? Go back on your bongos Jim and sell the F team to someone who knows what the F they are doing. 16/17 years of complete failure to the fans who pay the most $$$ in the world to see a basketball game. The fan simply said "sell the team" and he got in his face and had him banned? Where is the commissioner? I think its reasonable to be critical of a F up. He's a form of Bernie Madoff--just ripping people off. He's good at spending bad at managing. Did he make one good move in 17 years?

Ever realize how Dolan accuses anyone he doesn't like of being an alcoholic? Pathological.

Next game hes going to have 6 fans sitting around him with free food

What a talent...so entertaining he keeps the attention to the club even when nobody cares...
Man just know how to make money in show business...
WaltLongmire @ 4/5/2017 11:03 PM
I think the fan was HofstraBBall...and that's why he started this thread:
Sign the "Fire Phil and Dolan" petition.

Very sad...very sad.

Good on Dolan. Shows guts.

wargames @ 4/5/2017 11:41 PM
They should chant in the Garden "sell the team"
smackeddog @ 4/6/2017 3:54 AM
I don't like dolan, but he didn't freak out- he answered back someone who was being abusive to him, which he is perfectly entitled to do. I wouldn't go up to him and vent because that for me is crossing a line and anyone who does deserves to get called an asshole.

I hate this trend where fans think they can offload on players etc then run crying to the media when they get abuse back, it's pathetic.

I agree with your premise that players and owners have the right to defend themselves. But saying "sell the team" is not abusive. Getting in someone's face and calling them an A-hole is. If what was reported is true the reaction was waay overkill based on the action.

franco12 @ 4/6/2017 6:59 AM
clearly, the fan touched a sore point for jim d. it almost makes me feel bad for him.

I wonder if the fan shouted Fire Phil if the reaction would have been as visceral?

"Sell the team" is abusive? Did you grow up in pssy vile? Sorry the correct answer from Dolan there is " sure buy it from me" while it walks into his car. To get into someone's face? He's lucky the guy wasn't 6-4 250 without fear because getting that close= imminent threat if the lawyer tagged him--- he would've been in the right to protect himself. That's the business. -- fans pay money to see the games. Fans have right to be reasonably critical. If he said him you fcking midget sell the team blah blah. Ok then he has a point but simply sell the team is benign and laughable. On top of which he called the man an alcoholic???

What if Trump bought the team? Would that have been better?
What if a new owner wanted to make a splash and had his GM trade picks to "Win now"?
What if the new owner had new uniforms, and even build a new arena (garden lease on top of Penn Station might have to go one day)?
What if the team leveraged it up and did not succeed?
We call that improvement or Change?
Some call it the Nets.

Knicks have an owner who is not afraid to spend money. He hired a big name starphuch president who has not leveraged the future. Team won 17 games, 32 games and so far 30 games this year. All the while, had only 1 first round pick and very low value assets to trade with.
We have two excellent young bigs on the roster. One near all star and a very young ball moving Marc Gasol type who has little playing experience and needs defense footwork help.

This is not the end of the world.

It is the beginning of the new brave world.
But it will be baby steps... and there is no such thing as patient fan. Its oxymoron.

Nolad--Dolan 16/17 years failure-- a blind monkey would've had better results. Have you looked the costs of buying a ticket from msg? Well the product for many of those 17 years came now where near the value of those tickets fans have still come out for the games and been patient while ultimately just getting ripped off

Allanfan20 @ 4/6/2017 8:31 AM
Maybe the "Sell the Knicks" chants fan finally start. I don't know why they haven't already. The guy is so sensitive with a huge ego, maybe it will make him budge.

...... To be fair, I think if you yell something somewhat obnoxious at another person, he/she is allowed to yell back at you

Can't change that past. I hate the starphuch mentality that has persisted. Mckinsey was paid by Dolan that knicks problems were many but trading picks was a big factor. This is 3 years since. WE have not traded a first round pick.
Dolan is not my favorite person. I won't defend him.
The concept that "anyone is better than Dolan" is no guarantee of success.
I'll take my chances that if the decision making process has changed, then the ensuing results should follow.
Phil has failed because his plan was ambitious for the short term, but it did little to leverage the future. Only Noah's contract. Its also possible Noah gets his body together so its hope still is there.
Its a results driven business but one has to look at the process of decisions. Dolan changed that. It need be noted.

+1. That should become a regular pre-game ritual at MSG. Might actually have an impact.

a sell out crowd chanting "sell the team".....thats funny!!!!
Attendance does not suffer.

What would a new owner do? Old owner used to be ok with picks traded, now it don't happen.
New owner could fix arena? its not broken. New owner could change management? We did that 3 years ago.
New owner could be a dick too. A different dick, but still a dick.
George Steinbrenner was a good owner ,then a bad owner, then a good owner again. How? he changed his philosphy and let baseball people make baseball decisions.
