Knicks · Off season free agency my targets (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 4/14/2017 11:37 AM
I think we need an infusion of toughness and defensive length. Not willing to spend big on one player.

#1 James Johnson F This guy is under rated and I love him. He was integral in Miamis turn around 4 years 34mm$

#2 Shaun LIvingston PG/G not a 3 point shooter but a back up PG who can also start with length a great mid range game and pedigree 2 years 15 mm

#3 Christian Wood F/C Simple--hidden gem of a player that can bring defensive synergy with his length and athleticism 3 years 6 mm 2 mm

Top trade target Malik Beasley G DEnver

BRIGGS @ 4/14/2017 6:04 PM

This guy is what we need. A 6-9 250 pound SF who can guard all 3 spots upfront. Moves well without the ball nice range out to 3 athletic ball mover rebounder good D.

That would be 6-9 6-7 and 6-11

crzymdups @ 4/14/2017 6:07 PM
James Johnson is great. I don't know though. It seems like he really found a home in Miami.

A guy I would look at in a similar vein is Robert Covington from Philly. Wondering if we get Jamal Crawford from the Clippers in a Melo trade if we could flip Crawford for Covington.

He's very much one of those players that become enhanced from the Riley Effect- hard workers thrive with him, they always have.

franco12 @ 4/15/2017 5:46 AM
I think it will be hard to impossible to land any desirable FA.

We should be targeting someone like Durant, pointing out how he brings the one thing we missed.

Instead, we have many holes and dysfunction and no real target date for when things will get turned around.

We might have to settle for Derrick Rose.

jullybully21 @ 4/15/2017 8:28 AM
I would watch the negotiations between Gary Harris and Denver. Hopefully they fall apart and we can snap him up. He can shoot the 3, handle the ball and plays defense.
wargames @ 4/15/2017 8:51 AM
I would target Joe Ingles from the Jazz. He's a Point forward, who defends and can shoot the 3.
callmened @ 4/15/2017 9:29 AM
sure i agree with those suggestions

obviously nothing can be set in motion until we know who's staying or going. but the bright side is at least fans are starting to be more realistic that STAR PLAYERS dont want to come here. this organization is a MESS (for now...)

smackeddog @ 4/15/2017 12:43 PM
I want to sit this free agency out- see if any bargains get left over or if any team need to make some cap space and is willing to give up picks to do so. Unfortunately I think Phil will be looking to address the PG spot.
BRIGGS @ 4/15/2017 1:23 PM
Johnson fills a need of toughness with an all around 2 way game and hes an athletic 6-9 250. I watched Miami a lot and he was a main conduit to their turn around.

We need a pro PG if we want to develop Baker--I dont want to spend big money so I had my 2 choices as Livingston and Darren Collison-----took Livingston but would take Collison--dont know if the Knicks would but capped the price at 2 years 15mm

I still like Christian Wood is is younger than Willy G. Id like to see how Willy G and Wood would play together on our SL team

Malik Beasley is my main "trade" target for SG. Simply there is NOT enough room to go around on Denver and they are going to spend big money on Gary Harris. My offer to them would be a 2019 #1 pick restricted to 14 lowered by 2 each year until conveyed and capped at 10. If I cant get one of the cheaper free agent PGs Id be willing to give 2 number 2's for Mudiay. Giving up a future #1 with restriction to expedite rebuilding is smart. Beasley at 6-5/6-6 has all the tools to be great both ways.

I thought about spending for Hill or Holiday at PG but its just not a good choice. Weve been awful spending big and we need more pieces. Id also resign our Holiday at a reasonable price.

denver will not trade harris or beasley. they know how good they are.

johnson is a nice role player. on a decent team hes a valuable role player. on a bad team (ie the knicks), hes useless. my concern with him is that he seems to be mentally fragile. the year before he ballooned up to 270lbs because he was disinterested. this yr he was motivated lost weight and plays well. on a bad team like the knicks, who knows what will happen

but sure go for it. knicks have nothing to lose

HofstraBBall @ 4/15/2017 4:16 PM
Like Johnson but he is not going anywhere. Would be great to get Porter, Pope or Tucker. Hope Phil doesnt sign guys like Rose, Gibson and Gasol to max.

If we pay up on Johnson-- we can get him. 8.5-9mm is a lot of money and good $ spent.

Maybe. Safe bet Riley can beat out Phil, Triangle and Knicks.

yellowboy90 @ 4/15/2017 5:43 PM
Johnson would have been nice last year at the price he got but not this summer at the price he will probably get. The guy is already 30 y/o and there is zero reason to bring him in now because he doesn't match up with the timeline. The same goes for Livingston.

Right now Knicks got:

KP, Melo, LT, Kuz, KOQ, NDour who all play the 3/4. Gotta move couple of those players if you want JJ?

KP, Noah, Willy, Melo, LT, KOQ at the 4/5 and you want another? Wood?

Maybe if JJ showed this at 25 I would bite, but now at 30...?

Think we should shoot higher than the type of guys that have given us over 165 losses in last three years. Melo is gone. Kuz is every other Euro player who cant play Defense. (See Shved). LT is a limited minutes role player, at best. Ndour is any other D league player who plays well in last week of the season. When all the good players are coasting or sitting out. However, the sad truth is that this is what our expectations have been watered down to.

Was listening to a Podcast on Knicks and thought it was funny when Franchesa said that Knick fans think everything is heading in the right direction because Baker was able to fight through picks in the last 2 games of the season. And because our D leaguers really tried.

I think we got to see if they can move Melo. For all the flak Phil is getting for the press conference. At least teams will know Melo is on the table. I think I read somewhere that Melo can't waive the trade kicker if the trade happens stiffer July 1st so I am assuming he'll be moved as soon as possible.

I don't see a 6-9 250 pound athletic player on this team? This team needs toughness and defensive length. The guy is tough athletic diverse-- he's better than any player you named. The name of the game is to improve--and if anyone you mentioned can earn time on a team that wins behind JJ-- they can stay. Can we say that the answer is to slot Kuz or Lance Thomas into the starting unit?

Yep Johnson will put on 35 lbs in a Lnick uniform after leaving strict Riley meal/condition program.
