Could we instead take a bad contract from TOR (i.e. DeMarre Carroll) along with their pick for cap space; then flip our remaining cap space and that TOR pick for Bosh and MIAs pick?
What about Kyle O'Quinn and cap space for MIAs pick, Willie Reed and Chris Bosh?

I think buying him out would be the worse thing the knicks could do. It would literally be cutting off their nose (cutting a player who averages more than 20 a game and is an elite scorer) for nothing. We're not a very attractive FA destination. So cap space is almost irrelevant until we have a core that could be attractive to FA. I actually would prefer Phil take on some dead weight and move melo for picks and youth then bottom out at least 1 more year and try to be in the Bamba, Ayton, Doncic range in the draft.

He is owed 54 mil for the next two years. If he is traded that jumps to 63 mil. The amount, ntc and trade kicker give you an idea of just how bad the contract Phil gave him was. If Melo gets traded to a state without income tax he could make an extra 15 mil with the trade kicker and no state income tax.
Reminds me when Knicks got Billups, bought him out, then signed Tyson. That was 14mil EACH plus tax. Tyson cost us 28mil that year.
Knicks have done this money thing before. Maybe this is ability to turn melo's contract in to some Yoot, it could help put us right.
I happen to agree that paying for the privilege of having him pack isn't optimal yet I think Melo will refuse a trade and force the issue

The Knicks amnestied Billups. Melo's deal is under the new cba. They can't amnesty him.

Your missing the point, how many teams had the money to do what they did? Bought out Billups who was able to play? Then turn around and sign another player? Most teams don't burn money like that.
Thats the point. We talking about absorbing Bosh's contract in return for Melo, but Miami has to compensate for that. Would Winslow and the 14th pick do that? Few teams would eat 35million to do that. We have and could. TripleThread posted how this could be done.
Not saying it does. Melo is not a savior for Riles, but he puts that money to use and can make the playoffs with melo on that team. Somehow if he can finagle CP3 to the team, its a money maker. Riles can't win a chip with what he has, and he knows star power makes money. Miami can be tweaked.
No, I don't think we buy Melo out, that makes no sense.

Yep Wade is out there too. If they could Get CP3 and Melo who knows maybe he goes back to Miami on a decent deal to chase rings and retire there.

Wade has enough rings and I doubt he pass up a 22million dollar pay day. Just my opinion. He has pretty much said he won't chaser a ring.

No chance in hell Melo goes to Miami. That ship done sailed when Wade left for Chitown.

Its predicated on this concept:
They are paying Bosh and getting nothing. They could have melo instead of nothing. Melo is not the savior, but he could have put them in the playoffs.
Miami was the hottest team in the league in the second half of the season. They could trade Winslow and their 14th pick and it does nothing to the team that finished red hot. It just adds melo.
Making the playoffs and going into second round is profitable for teams.
Miami is not a great sports town and they have a good core of fans, but not when they suck. If they can trade Bosh for Wade Im sure they would.
BUt they could not last year.
Read up on the Bosh situation.
Smart idea. Getting 2 top 15 players in this draft give you 4/5 a starting lineup for the future.
Willy, KP, 2 picks.
Melo is like Bosh, dead weight on the cap. The 1 in a million chance of Bosh ever playing again is worth it.
Since Melo has an NTC, Im not so sure he would go to a Miami team without Wade or LeBron. Im guessing a "super friends" situation is his first choice, a playoff team thats close to contending second. Miami doesn't fall into either category.
Nalod wrote:We talking about absorbing Bosh's contract in return for Melo, but Miami has to compensate for that. Would Winslow and the 14th pick do that?
Hypothetically, to market conditions, factoring in the previous Biedrins/Rush/Iggy trade to Utah and when Cleveland essentially bought a pick by absorbing Baron Davis' dead contract and also that these were in the previous CBA, I'd say it would look something like this
Carmelo Anthony
Kyle O'Quinn
One 2nd round pick
for
Chris Bosh
Josh McRoberts
One 1st round pick ( protected up to 8) in a future year
One "phantom" 1st round pick ( protected up to 25, then rolls into two 2nd round picks in X number of future seasons. Basically the NBA version of a phantom NFL contract, where the player is really signing a one year prove it deal, but to appease the agents and media, it "looks" like a monster deal. It's really going to be two 2nds)
Right to pick flip 2nd round picks in a future year
Right to pick flip 1st round picks in a future year ( protected up to 15)
Some smaller pieces would need to move to get the salaries to work out, but the Knicks would not be getting Winslow and they wouldn't be getting this years pick. If the Heat traded for Melo, assuming he'd waive his NTC, the Heat would commit to gun for it for two years. They would need Winslow and that pick to push now as help for now or acquire other assets.
The other quite bizarre scenario would be to move Noah and O'Quinn for Bosh. This would be sort of odd, but the Heat might weigh out getting a 15 minute a night player for what is a dead contract and a 35 million cash hit. For an extra 19 million over what they had to pay anyway in cash, they'd equalize the last three years of Noah's deal. That 19 million across three years might be more palatable than a 35 million cash hit, then paying 26 million a year TWICE for two years for the same cap space hold. For the Knicks, it would be unloading Noah and his bad contract for 35 million in cash. Which is quasi form of amnesty. Not likely to happen, the Heat could likely use their cap space better, but I suppose it's an interesting thought discussion when it's just about saving cash over getting actual help.

No. Bosh will never play again. Think we can get a pick and another young current NBA player with upside.

The mention of Bosh playing is if he tries, the insurance considerations are massive. No, he won't play, but if he is cleared by a doctor to play........the insurance goes away. He is getting paid either way.

Only on this board could getting Chris Bosh for anything, let alone Melo, be considered postworthy. I doubt they're even this stupid on the Heat fanboard...

Jrod--remember when uttering the word stupid-- start by looking in the mirror-- you and I know there's a whole lot of stupid there. There's always hope! Simply this would be trading Melo for pick14. Chris Bosh contract is just the facilitator. If the team wants to rebuild-- ya gotta rebuild

BRIGGS, if you've read any of my mental diarrhea in the past years, you would know I keep your words of wisdom close at all times. I suppose hope in the form of a 1st rounder is better than no hope at all, although I didn't notice too many mentions of getting a draft pick from Miami for taking Bosh. I'm just a bit tired of our historical bent of trading away our best player for piles of useless dog poop.
