Am I wrong to be scared off by Ball & his dad? I was listening briefly to Stephen A Smith and he just seems a bit too much ready to cash in - and if there is one thing Melo has been critiqued for, it's being interested in his own brand more than winning. I would hate to have that kind of potential influence 'built in' to my rebuild.
I have no problem with Branding but it can never be above basketball. See Jordan, LeBron and Kobe. I still prefer the Duncan, Ewing, Hakeem and Jabber types the Majic, Bird and Dr. J they kept the perspective that Basketball was the means to the marketing. They wanted to win first and every thing was secondary.
Lonzo Ball could slip in this draft because of his father.... I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing for us. I could see Boston add Phoenix passing on him. The Lakers will be the real barricade. No way they pass him. I think that's the only city that could take on Lavar Ball and make is ok. I could see every other team ahead of us passing oon Ball because of the father. It's unlikely but i could see it if Buzz around the league was the same as these sneaker companies. New York is a harsh place for a guy like Ball to navigate... but the ability to find a niche would be there. Lonzo seems like s cerebral player. The Phil mind fuck could be the perfect mix to the Lsvar side show

As for Lonzo, I would fear his rebelling would be self sabotage at a subconscious level. Lavar is asking a lot from his kid!
Duncan was a young 4 year player who was allowed to grow up first, Ewing was protected by Thompson and Patrick handled things OK for the most part. But it was not easy for him. Hakeem in Houstan was not the first pick and was thought of as a defensive player and expectation was not as the team leader. He grew into that. Jordan was coming out of two years at UNC with a great team. Kobe was 13th pick and expectations were not nearly as high as Ball.
This kid might be the real deal, or he might be one of many to fall prey to their fathers and be miserable for it.
Think there are a few solid picks. And many over hyped that have many holes. But what else is new. It's the draft.
My list is:
Tier 1- Franchise players
1. Fultz- Incredible athlete, NBA difference maker, Franchise player.
2. Ball- Great court vision, Taller JKidd?
3. Tatum- Solid fundamentals, great motor.
Tier 2- NBA ready/Immediate starter
1. Monk- Pro scorer
2. Smith- Tough for size, can create.
3. Jackson- Reminds me of Winslow.
4. Markkannen- Stretch 4 that can really score. (Not for us as we have KP)
5. John Collins- NBA game. Strong down low.
Guys that worry me.
1. Fox- No outside shot. under sized. Reminds me of jennings.

Dad is a concern, but I have see more red flags in his game. Defense, lack of pull up game, funky release on J, lack of physicality etc. leave enough questions in my mind to give Fultz an edge. I have no problem with branding. Bad defense will cause me more headaches at this point. I like Smith, but what's the point in bringing in someone and putting them in a position they are likely to fail in? Not only did you waste an opportunity to bring in a solid rotation player, but now you're looking at an asset with diminished value.

Bowie was a very talented player to bad he couldn't stay healthy.

Those were the days when players came ready to produce. Now they get drafted and have to wait a year or two before they make an impact.

Wow Jackson way to low--in some aspects he might be the best player in the draft. Even if I have the number 1 pick Im highly considering Jackson.
Beyond anything in the 2nd round--think about our defense if we added Jackson at SF and Diallo at 2G(if we get a pick for melo)
I'm going to make a new England patriots list... I don't care what everyone wants, nor do i care about the mock drafts...
