And this is why running Phil out of town looks a lot like running MDA out of town just as he was ready to breakout winning. Melo has poisoned multiple Knicks efforts.
Phil needs to finish what he's started. Enough of the nonsense of starting over every time a sportswriter or fan gets their nose out of joint.
What was our record after we threw out this BUM? How does Phil compare to Morey? And differences?
Woodson inherited D'Antoni's team and style of play. Nobody hired Woodson to be head coach again. Once Woodson deviated back to Melo-stall the team went south. The 54 wins would not have been a fluke with D'Antoni here and that playoff may have come out differently.
The only thing simple-minded about D'Antoni are his critics. His basketball philosophy is about winning with overwhelming offense. You may not agree but it can work especially for teams that, well, want to win.
Morey attracts no one. Money and winning are always the attractions.
The 54 win team was still playing MDA ball? The team went South because of early year injuries, losing their 6th man of the year, outside shooting, key bench guys and adding a waste of space in Bags.
Its easy for people to talk about the genius of a coach when he has great players. Agree that players want to play in a system like MDA's. Its nonrestrictive and fast paces. Does that make it great? And again, a great coach coaches both ends well. Dantoni has always had problems coaching defense. And you cant ignore the obvious. He failed here.
Morey did attract players and put the right pieces around Harden. Anderson, Gordon and now LOu give them great off the ball weapons to go with Harden's PnR.
For a guy who sports a high falutin' college handle, you think in the absolute terms of a religious fanatic or high school dropout. As long as you treat the idea of success as an absolute "unless we're Number ONE its a fail" you will be eternally doomed to disappointment. Success is a process not an outcome. Successful companies aren't monopolies. Successful enterprises continuously improve themselves in relation to the competition - there is never an inflection point where they claim exclusive superiority.
MDA was and continues to be a damned fine coach. The fact that prima donna players like Melo and Howard can undermine MDA, Hornacek, Phil, or anyone who gets in the way of their -cough- "career" seems to be an inconvenient fact to you. Howard used to portray himself as Superman yet he's not even Mighty Mouse and has as many rings as Melo to show for the bluster. As a journalist you can play along with their back-stabbing games and go to a party or two or maybe enjoy some gossip once in a while. Hoo Hoo!
Yes, the 54 win team was still running MDA ball and won on the fumes of it. Woodson's concessions to Melo was an exercise in self-immolation.
I am damned happy that Dolan sticks by Phil and that Phil sticks by Hornacek and Rambis. They can keep shoving the Triangle up Melo's ass as long as he's here and you won't hear a complaint from me. More than wins, this team has needed executive backbone and we have it in Phil. F' the sportswriters and impatient and dim-witted fans who thought overnight winning was in the offing. It wasn't and isn't. But the glimmer of success is manifesting itself slowly but surely.
Compared to Debbie Downers like you, I'm metaphorically giddy about what's going on.
You know what happens when you ASSume? Handle? Has nothing to do what college I went to. But good try. So yours represent a F'kin Zero?
Take your true success mantra bullshit to the kids at a fat camp. WINNING is the only true measure of success in pro sports. They are not giving out rings for great effort. But you probably enjoyed receiving 4th place trophies growing up. And Phil, MDA in NY have been huge losers. LIN, a huge loser after his 15 minutes. And your analogy of sports and business is horrible. Business success is not absolute. You can win at different levels. A million dollars profit and a miliion and a half are both considered a success in most businesses. Sports has only one team that is succesful. One. And all others are judged by how many games they won. Coaches included.
MDA may be a good offensive coach. But great HEAD coaches have had long tenures with their teams. They coach both the offensive and defensive sides of the floor. The have a reputation for making great in game adjustments. They are great motivators and communicators. They know get the best out of their players. They know how to use a players strenghts. They are well respected by most of their players, past and present. And most importantly.....THEY WIN regardless of the turnover in rosters. DANFONI IS NOT A GREAT COACH. His career will prove that to be true and no one will ever remember him once he retires.

You sound like a F'n idiot bashing MDA's offensive coaching! UNBELIEVABLE! Yeah he makes the game easier for his players and they play more confident but you think it's as simple as just chucking shots. SMDH!
I see that, once again, your panties get in a bunch when you dont like what you hear. Ease off with the Fuckin idiot talk. It's okay to bash another coach. Dont remember calling you a fucking idiot with all the endless posts defending Mr. Phil without any statistical support. But please, make as much sense as you do about Phil and tell me exactly how the Rockets record is due to the Nutty professor and not because of Harden's MVP year, a great supporting cast and great 3pt. shooting? Do you watch any games? Its push pace and chuck and PnR with Harden. Genius! Makes sense you would be a fan. You seem to like guys who come here and hand us losing records. So 121-167 for us was great? We were ranked 27 out 30 defensively in 09, 23rd in 2008 and 22nd in 2010. See a problem? And as soon as he left we did what? All facts. You dont like those. Just your personal opinion. Which doesnt make any sense most of the time. Always see you post stuff like its all about defense but are now supporting a losing coach which has no defensive reputation? And Why didnt his system work with Lakers? Why did the Lakers can his ass? Guess it was his system what won all those games in Phoenix? Not Stat in his Prime with MVP Nash? Guess we should have given him more than 4 years to prove he was not a loser and could preach defense. Hit me with those facts of yours to support your claim. And lets see who sounds like the F'n idiot. Even with Harden, all those 3pt. weapons and who I think has been the key (Beverly), they will do what every Danfoni team does when facing a good team...wont be able to defend. They have a good matchup against the aging Spurs but lets see how they finish the series and move on to elite offensive teams.
Totally missing the point! MDA's job is to get the most out of his talent and by all measures he usually does get his players to perform at a higher level. If he's giving his players a game plan that helps them perform at their best then he's doing a great job.
Stop Pissing on the man when he's clearly helped his players get to perform at MVP levels. Nash was NOT an MVP before MDA! MDA is putting Harden in position to be considered an MVP. That's what you want to do for your best players! Losing to a better team doesn't mean MDA is doing a bad job.
As for his lack of success in NY and LA this happens to ALL coaches at some point if they coach long enough! MDA has succeeded in making his teams better more often than not. So yeah you do sound like a F'n idiot!
Thats your typical full of shit answer. With nothing to back it up. Just personal logic and opinion. Your argument is that everone likes that he lets them do whatever they want? Great. GTFOH with that. Your so busy trying to push your opinion that you ignore all facts and sense. My point is that good coaches teach defense! He never has. Reason why he sucked here and everywhere else he has not had an MVP type offensive players. Even his best years with the Suns, he was ranked at bottom for defense or Pts allowed. BIG problem if you want to be a tough playoff team. Your point is that he is awesome. In spite of all statistical evidence. Specially in NY. I take it nack, your not a F'n idiot. Your probably just a chick or just argue your point like one.
You seem to have a high opinion of yourself cuz you think you know better than some of the best basketball minds in the league. You of course know better cuz of all the teams in the NBA running styles based on the offense you created. Everyone come to you for Offensive concepts. STFU! Just cuz you're too DUMB to respect MDA doesn't mean real coaches don't respect him!
Mike Krzyzewski did not know Mike D'Antoni before he was putting together his USA Basketball coaching staff, but clicked quickly. The long-time Duke coach and Hall of Famer flew to Phoenix, met with the then-Suns coach and soon handed over much of his offense over to him.http://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/arti...He said he considered D'Antoni, Nate McMillan and Jim Boeheim to be "co-head coaches." On Friday, he gushed about the Rockets new head coach. He called D'Antoni "an attacking coach" for his competitiveness and his aggressive offensive style and then raved about his friend.
"Guys not only like Mike, they respect him," Krzyzewski said. "He was a great player; not a good player, a great player. Internationally, he was unbelievable. He knows the game from a point guard's point of view. He's always studied the game well.
"Every time I hear people talk about Mike, they say, 'He's this offensive genius.' Well, he's a really good head coach. You can't have the success he's had by just coaching offense. He's a team player. Good guy. Easy to be around. And smart as can be. And very humble, because when you're put in that role, on an international staff, a guy could say, 'Hey, I'm a head coach,' and not be in it as much. Mike was all in it, all the way. I loved working with him and I love our friendship."
Krzyzewski was praising a friend. But when asked about how D'Antoni's offense will work for the Rockets, he went back to sounding like a coach that has been in the meetings and the practices and saw more than the numbers.
"It's well-conceived," said Krzyzewski, who had James Harden on the 2012 Olympic and 2014 World Cup champion. "People can be really good on offense or defense in a number of ways. Being smart doesn't mean speed. Being smart means spacing, good shots, using your personnel properly. We're all not going to be very good unless we have good players. If you have enough good players and they're healthy, the spacing of the court, the sharing of the ball, the speed with which he advances it, gives his guys an opportunity to make plays.
"When you have plays and reads it's the best combination. It's especially good if you have a special player and they do in James (Harden). It will be interesting to see how that develops because James is not just a really good scorer; James is a heck of a passer. Who knows what their roster will be next year, but it will start with James.
"I'm as high on Mike as I can be. I always want him on my team, with my team, in any way."
Bahahahaha. Wait, so I call you out for being a guy that shits out endless baseless opinions and tries to make them fact and you respond by combing the internet for someone else's opinion?? Classic! LMAO. Fact... He has never won without an MVP type player. He always ranks low in defense. He failed here. Failed in LA. Would be failing if not for MVP Harden and team Morey put together. I'll wait for your sensitive opinion's. But probably not.
Nix's Opinions:
We are doing great with Phil- despite his record
Danfoni did well here- despite his record
Danfoni is HOF coach- because of his friends opinion.
Jets are a great team- desoite their record for the last 49 years. The funniest thing about this is how you love Phil and the Triangle yet defend the complete opposite system in Danfoni's? But makes sense that you dont make sense. Could see Danfoni as Phil's coach. That would have been fun to watch. The Nutty professor and senile old man.
I totally disregarded your STUPID point. I didn't have to comb the internet. This is COMMON knowledge by anyone who actually knows basketball. You my friend THINK you know but you don't know as much as you think. Mike K chose MDA to run his offense for one of the most important jobs he had running the Olympic Team. You think for a minute that Coach K would do that if D'Antoni wasn't a respected Basketball mind?Another STUPID comment is to say MDA hasn't won without an MVP type player. What helps to MAKE the difference for good players is how they are used and MDA helped to MAKE Nash an MVP. Nash was not an MVP candidate before hooking up with MDA. You can try to use revisionist history if you like but Nash was not on a path to being an MVP before MDA help to MAXIMIZE Nash's talent. Good coaches need good players.
As for The Triangle and SSOL. I've said MANY times that I'm a lover of X's and O's. Both Defense and Offense. I actually bought the Book on SSOL way back and did the same with Tex Winters Book. I take an interest in Pops schemes, Kerr's and Jeff's. I do this with every game I watch. There's nothing odd about it. Also Jeff is very much in the MDA camp on Offense and so Phil would ask MDA the same thing he asked Jeff. To blend his concepts with the Triangle as a base. It would be up to MDA to decide is he wanted to do that. Jeff said yes and by the end of the season he had the kids executing that Modernized Triangle. They should be even better next year.
You disregard my point? Ofcourse you did. With what facts? Lmao Thats what guys say when they have nothing futher to add.
Most important job?? He sat on his ass with his buddy shooting the shit while NBA All Stars go out and trounce opponents. Real coaching.
The most annoying thing about you is that you are so off in what you think is going on with the Knicks that it makes me even more depressed about our future. Think listening to fans like you, who are clueless to the state of the Knicks, makes me hope you get what you deserve.
Unfortunately, that would mean I would also be suffering with every loss. I hope that I am wrong and we somehow pull a few good picks out of Phils ass, unload contracts and put a decent team on the floor next year. Like it or not, I will always root for the Knicks. And I will root for the day we bring in a new culture with a new core of young basketball minds that are truly commited to building a futute here. When we look back at the records and see that Danfoni and Uncle Phil were not it. But you dont care about records or winning, just your opinion. Whcih is crystal clear when you talk about Dantoni and Phil.

The alumni at Hofstra are breathing a heavy sigh of relief knowing you had nothing to do with their educational offerings.
Even the kids at Fat camp know that winning is an objective that isn't a kamikaze mission. Very few NBA teams have any more rings than the Knicks have had in the last 20 years. All those snowflake executives that you believe are so much better than ours haven't got sh@t to show for their efforts either. Maybe its because in a league of thirty teams all attempting to win that ring the chances of turning a team's fortunes around in a three year period are profoundly unlikely. Point to Miami and Cleveland why don't cha and explain their "overnight" success.
Phil and company are on track to creating a sustainable winning team. Derailing that effort based on your soap opera whining would be criminal.
BTW, great coaches are not guaranteed long tenures anywhere. Its an anomaly. And when it happens there's usually a tight coupling of coach to relentless talent. Pop to Duncan and so on. MDA doesn't need my accolades to be recognizable as a gifted basketball mind just as you are recognizable in a different way.
Lin and many other players who play for coaches who are system coaches often succeed beyond expectations because of the fit of the system and the coach playing to their strengths. Given an opportunity to cash in on that success, the players either believe they are individually that good or other teams whose metric is exclusively statistical believe they're that good and take the money. The consequence is often the opposite of Linsanity.
When Phil spoke to coaching he was speaking about the entire organization and not anything about Hornacek in particular. Most Presidents don't have Phil's background so no they don't get involved in those areas. Our players and coaching staff have an opportunity to learn from a great - why do you object?
Instead of manufacturing fictional criticism you might consider giving it a break. You aren't winning any arguments here with self-evident hyperbole.

The TRUTH is you don't have a F'n Point. You're flinging crap around but you don't have a real point. All you're doing now is trying to make this about me and I've given you the Opinion of a Well Respected coach who CHOSE MDA to run his offense for the Olympic team. You meanwhile haven't proved anything except to point to coaching stops that didn't work to try and make your case. All coaches have teams that don't work out and it's often more complicated than that coach just doing a bad job. You don't judge them only on that. The GM can have a huge part to play in how a coach succeeds or doesn't as does the team's best players buying in or not. Stubborn players can destroy a coach faster than anything.
As for Phil I know what he's trying to do here in NY and for those fans that are killing him that's fine but if you opened your eyes and ears you might actually learn something about building a winning franchise. You say you want a Front Office that is committed to building a future here but then you PISS on Phil for trying to do just that. SMDH! Phil hasn't been able to WIN NOW but the part of his work that has been focused on the Future is moving along just fine.
You're so convinced that Phil isn't about building for the future that you simply can't see it.

How ironic is it that WE had MDA here, the man responsible for the modern day spread offense that most teams are emulating and now we have a Prez that is insisting on turning back the clock to run his triangle system.

Your right though, Phil is definately going to be sticking by JH next year. He announced that he will be more involved in the coaching next year. Great. Confidence in his coach. And no big deal, most Presidents do that...right? Pathetic.
Yes I am worried. Perhaps you can improve your reading comprehension once you get into DeVry Tech. I'll let you continue your imaginary debate about "All those other Execs"
Your right about great NY coaches, they usually get fired and have losing records. He will be remembered for excellence here. Wrong, he will only be remembered by Lin lovers, Melo haters (who blame Melo for pushing the Lin/MDA era out)
But at least we get to the real reason for your love of Danfoni. He is the King of the Lin Lovers. Makes sense now. Btw. Lin was one of the most over rated Knick free agents of all time. He had tunnel vision and no outside shot. However, he became the Asian poster boy for all the underachieving wannabe armchair athletes that think every mediocre guy can be great The ultimate underdog. Lin had a great string of games. He lit up the garden. Made it fun to watch a long shot win. But it was mostly because no other team knew whho Lin was or respected him in those early games. Which happens at the end of every year when the reserves come off and play well for the last 10 games of the year. Yes, he has some skill. But he went on to prove that everyone in NY who thought he was not worth that contract was right. I don't hate Lin, I just dislike the guys that have so much hate because they feel he was given a raw deal.
Back to Dantoni. Good offensive mind for a free system. Failed in NY. Horrible defensive coach. Not a great coach.
BTW. For anyone saying they respect Phil and also claim MDA was great....maybe you should find out what Phil thinks of MDA? Answer: Does not respect him Let me know if you need me to "Manufacture" audio proof.

Here is my point, in case you forgot what we were arguing about, MDA is not a great coach, lacks a defensive mindset and failed here terribly. Backed it up with facts. And done with debate. You were arguing that MDA is a genius. Then you started throwing in how Phil has great judgement and is doing well. Think you even went as far as saying Phil and MDA would have worked well together and produced some kind of Triangle/Speed ball offense? Which showed a huge contradiction as its well known that Phil does not respect him.
And yes, we don't need to discuss our belief in Phil or lack there of. Only thing I will keep saying is that I will apologize If he picks 3 good players in the draft, gets value for Melo and unloads Noah.

You better have some offensive firepower and speed on defense to even compete. I dont think you can impose will on speed like that.
Im not sure Im even wrong about the realization that we do not have an athletic front court player--Im not sure our guys would be effective against Houston in the middle defensively. Just to fast and athletic

What was also lost among the 3s in game one was the excellent defense that Beverley played on Parker completely taking him out of his game. I saw the Rockets guards get after the Spurs guards game one. Game 2 the Spurs guards shot like a combined 70%.

LOL. I bumped one of the other threads after game 1 about SAS's offense but I knew it was a risk to bump it. If you go by regular season, SAS was clearly a better team than Houston because SAS's defense is off the charts good. I don't think they'll beat GSW though.
You're seeing it come down to a clash of systems and how well they're executed.

I feel the same way. This series, and now the celts/wiz series are the only two that have been able to hold my attention in the second round. I was shocked after game 1 in San Antonio. If this series is tied going into game 5 or goes 7 I think it would be great.
Nalod wrote:so we back to SAS as model? Game to game impressionables?
Yeah...typical knee jerk reactions. Its the social media, i want attention now, world. Reminds me of the ill-advised tweet from Phil .. "hows it goink"
Team with two slow 7 footers: 2 wins
Unguardable team: 1 win
MDA and his offense if the real deal and he has had a great first season with a team that should improve.
They are a top 5-6 team in the league and thats not to be ignored even if the lose the series.
Nalod wrote:so we back to SAS as model? Game to game impressionables?
They're a model for defense.

A bounce here or there and Houston wins! This is hardly something to be crowing about. You talk a lot of Shyte about a coach whose team is battling with the Spurs in SA in his 1st season with Houston. You can't slag on a guy that's still playing in the post season!
