Even with the win. The Spurs players played soft in the paint amd I believe LMA is playing injured. They don't haven't even been punishing the smaller defenders with easy layups and put backs like they could. Gasol may be to old and soft to impose his will.
I get the feeling they are purposely pushing for 7 games. These playoffs have been dull.
Truly impressive performance by the Spurs and a poor performance by the Rockets. It's one thing to lose to a team like the Spurs that has more talent and experience but you've gotta go out swinging on your home court!!! Pop had the Spurs ready! MDA didn't have the Rockets ready and Harden simply didn't show up. The Rockets aren't talented enough to survive such a bad performance from Harden.
team with 2 slow bigmen in the line up: 4 wins
team with unguardable what it was: 2 wins
No Parker, No Lenard

Thing is it's easier to neutralize one player like Harden. Even minus Parker n Kawhi the Spurs still had Aldridge, Pau, Green and Manu in the mix with some tough role players. Spurs have more experience and time together. Spurs were the better team coming into the series and able to get off the ropes.

Ha, thats why I always laugh when people say you can only win one way- it's not that simple. Execution, heart, toughness, there are lots of variables. One things for sure Popovic got robbed for coach of the year.

The strange thing is that people in this and the other recent threads are obsessed with offense and seem to have forgotten there's a defensive end to the game. A team can get very far with an ordinary offense and the best defense in the league.
Spurs I think have 4 udfa and 4 second rounders on team.
Lma and pau are the only lotto pick. Many of their first rounders are late
It's an incredible institution. Not just pop or players. Admirable

Good points. Agree. Spurs have those important variables. But you hit the nail on the head. The biggest one being POP and how guys play for him. Good coaching is under rated. Just as average coaching is over rated. Btw. Coach of the year is announced in June.

I think it's harder to get that Rockets roster to 55 wins and the 2nd round than the Spurs roster to 61 and the 3rd round. If the Spurs actually make it past the Warriors, we'll have a different discussion.

It has to burn MDA that he got lit up by a post player backing players down hitting turn around mid range 2s. But to be real that wouldn't be the full story. Spurs were willing and able to attack at every angle. Fast breaks, Layups, Mid range, Post Play, 3 pointers, FTs.
You know what has helped make the Spurs defense tough all these yrs. Having 2 7 fters in the paint.

and rebounding. 3 point shooting goes cold for stretches. Defense and rebounding dont.

The discussion was MDA being a great coach. There is no further discussion needed to prove that Pop is a great coach. Regardless of regular season, a GREAT coach finds a way to win that series. Specially against a team having it's 3 main players at less than 100%.
MDA coached that team to 54 wins was an impressive job. Somehow hating on MDA sort of validates knick hating agenda for some silly reason.
I guess if a coach or player goes on to be good somewhere else it makes knicks look bad. If they fail, it makes us feel better? Nice.
There is a word that is being forgotten when we gush about Spurs. We can talk about talent, the coach, and the culture but the end result is "Chemistry". Some of the hoping the spurs would get blown out and thus justify that any system that employs Trianglish elements is garbage.
Basically both these coach's did and have done a great job this year. MDA raised the level of play with the rockets with mostly the same team. Fans and owner should be very happy with the job he did. Spurs, like phil's Lakers and Bulls are a deep group of players who have their roles and in many cases choose to be there. I love the old story about Danny Green being let go by Spurs but pop usually tells the players why and what they can work on. He did and was welcomed back.
39 year old Ginobli reverse dunk in traffic in game 5? Great moment.
And how cool are the Spurs to be able to sit a top 5 MVP player, finish out the series and get him ready for the GSW? Great Pop moment for sure!!!
^^ Hofstra is hating on MDA bc MDA liked Lin and questioned Melo

Hofstra = Lavar's unwanted son

The Spurs roster isn't actually that talented though, which is why I think this season has been popovic's best- Aldridge is overweight, Parker on the decline, Gasol and ginobli are old, Green was never the same after signing his last contract. And they've had injuries on top of that- to beat the rockets so decisively without Parker and Leonard is very very impressive.

I'm sure melo needs some companionship now, Hofstra could set Melos mind at real ease

I agree. Old, fat and happy but still win 61 games is impressive. Kwahi is a top 5 player and that is the big difference. Obviousl you have to have the talent.
Spurs GSW is the series I wanted all season. I wish Parker was still able to play but in typical Spurs fashion its "Next man up".
Pop coach's to not win the battle, but win the war. Conf finals ("final four"!) is a good accomplishment.

Burn? No, it validates my prediction. I said even after game 1 I thought the Spurs would win. Their defense is off the charts. They've increased their 3s in the post-season to 25 a game by the way.
