lowry is the heart and soul of this team. he is the player that turned his all around. at times, he's played like the 2nd best player in the east. he has been that good for us and his leadership and impact can not be quantified. think of it this way - he's the antithesis of melo on the knicks.

btw, here's what our gm had to say after this past few years of success and what happened this year. it's a good listen if you have the time.

I agree with everything you said. But what if he's 34 or 35 and on a max contract and he's an 8 PPG bench player? The Raptors would probably be buying a couple of good seasons and sacrificing long-term wins (unless they plan to trade him shortly after signing him).

if it's a 4 year deal, i would expect 2 very solid years, 1 drop off year and then 1 bad year. it is what it is. but it does give you a true containment - you will spend those 3-4 years building a good a team as you can without committing longer term deals to vets. you'll give deals to your rookie deal extensions but you give it a go for the next 3-4 seasons.
