We need quality athletic perimeter defense and he is uniquely built to guard from 2 to even a small 5 who may be mobile. Great defender long arms highly skilled two way player with a STRONG body multi skilled. PERFECT pick there. Also a really high quality 3 point shooter who also has ball and post skills. Very unique player who i think could be a part of this team going forward for 10 years.

It'll be interesting to see what the Knicks do with that pick. A kid like Burton should be in consideration. There will be some very interesting players even that late in this draft. I'm a big fan of this draft.

58 is a late pick. If you like a player and he falls through--you dont have to compete with other teams after the draft. I think he has more upside if he loses 10-15 pounds as he is one of the most athletic front court players coming in. Hes like a new age Anthony Mason--thats pretty good at 58.

UDFA's could go badly for us though depending on how these kids look at the team they wanna join. I'd have to guess that most if not all these kids have seen the mess the Knicks have turned into and have seen all that happened with us last year which was a lot, so i just can't see any of the kids that multiple teams will be trying to get as UDFA's choosing the Knicks over more stable teams. Now you might be able to find some that realize that we're going through a pretty much total rebuild and think with us having so many needs they might have a better chance of making our team but most likely the kids that we'd want will choose other teams.

I know he 6-5 not 6-11 but he reminds me of a combo of Robert Horry and Anthony Mason. He just looks like hes going to be a dagger 3 point shooter--the one that somehow is on the court down 2 with 14 seconds left and seems to hit that every time. Not only is he a shot blocker--but hes good on man good at getting his hands in the play. You can use him to guard 2-5 and then for instance we have KP at C and Burton at 4--he can split you off the dribble--good player who can hit shots handle rebound pass defend. If Pat Riley gets a hold of this kid and gets him in great shape--he will be a lottery pick type talent when all is said and done. Maybe one day when we have a real team--I will be able to say once the Knicks get a hold of this guy and help transform his body--but we dont seem to do that well.

Burton plays with a lot of confidence and swag on the court. I like him a lot. But i'd rather take the following players over him with the 58th pick

The Knicks have let it be known that they're looking for toughness and Burton certainly fits the bill. Briggs, would you take him over Tyler Dorsey?

with 2 pics left after 58 its silly to draft an American player. Unless you are really worried about that player being picked with one of those last two spots you can just sign them to Baker/Plumlee type deals. Im not sure I see the point. Scout these Euros and when they drop their names in the draft pick up their rights. See Manu Ginobili

the one that gives you a guarenteed deal. That is very rare. It allowed us to lock up guys immediatly. You have to remember everyone's roster is tight. After your roster hold overs, a couple draft picks, any FAs.... and there are always veterans looking for work as well. How much room in the NBA is there for undrafted FAs? Its a very small talent pool. Trust me, if the Knicks come knocking when the draft is over they will sign.

That is a great question because I sincerely like both. I think it depends on the higher picks. I feel we need Burton slightly more--and as someone mentioned at pick 58 if you have two choices---you only have to get 1 of them to get through two picks--then you can be aggressive looking at them in udfa. I dont like the theory of taking a foreign player IF there is legit American talent at 58. In my scenario--you like two players but have to choose 1---Im not taking a foreign player just for the sake of it. I want to help the team today.

I'm certain that we will be looking for toughness as it was mentioned by both Phil and Jeff after the season ended. Burton seems like a natural for us (and his 3 point shooting doesn't hurt either).

Hes an NBA 3 point shooter--if whipped into shape--his upside is very reasonable. Very diverse and skilled
They probably like him --not a great athlete but the best passing big and one of the best bounders in the draft yet also has 3 point range and post skills
I remember I said he reminded me a bit of Willis Reed.
