I agree on long term focus. But I think the Cavs will decline before that. And GS won't be able to keep all those players together.

I do think in 3 years the Knicks could start to bang with them... by then their run will be winding down. Thats the goal with me. No teams have the fire power or defensive capacity to match them. I dont care what teams do--there is no guy physically who can stop Kevin Durant(accept maybe Lebron)and no one on the face of this eart can stop Lebron who is BY FAR and away the best player in the NBA.
Heck Ive been looking at this draft and free agency hard and its really tough to even get fully excited about pick 8. We have like 3-4 flawed choices. I actually like the early s5nd round late 1 better because of value. Im not sure where going to get the value that 8 represents.

Age, injuries, will take their toll. New super teams are going to form, other contenders will grow more organically, one draft pick can change everything.
Wouldn't be surprised if there is a new champ in a couple of seasons.

Lets not forget about K.Leonard when we talk about stopping players and one of the best in the NBA. He's the best all around player in the NBA cause he can do everything Lebron can do and can shoot which isn't Lebron's best thing. Lebron is the best in the NBA but KL is a beast and the best defender in the NBA.

Cavs were a lottery team one yr, and in the finals the very next, so lets stop acting like there's only one way to become successful..Those teams that become successful fast, sacrificed draft picks and the talent, for better players and a very good chance at success.
4 or 5 yr plans don't work, cause contracts are not even that long any more, after 3 yrs(see melo) of losing, you tend to scrap your plan
To me there's no teams even ready to pounce as soon as Cleveland and Golden State slip. San Antonio will always be there, but none of the young teams are anywhere near ready. The reality is most teams are best building for the long-term, although it wouldn't be good for the NBA as a whole. Boston is probably better off trading Isaiah and replacing him with Fultz, because you aren't winning a title with Isaiah in his prime. I'll pay Bradley and Olynyk first, who are significantly younger, but can still help get you to the playoffs now. A team like Boston can be ready 3-4 years down the road when Cleveland slips.
The Knicks should be thinking along the same lines. You have 21 year old KP and 23 year old Willy. About to draft a 19 year old rookie. And same thing next year. 4 years from now KP will be 25 and that's when these other teams will be falling off and you have a chance to compete in a new era of teams and stars.

I'm not even sure he can get past the 90s Knicks....throw Mase on him on the perimeter and Oak to chop his Arms of down the lane...

Different time and era. To me MJ is the best I have seen. If he doesn't retire to go play baseball he probably wins 8 straight championships and probably another if he doesn't retire again and break up the bulls.

Yeah it's possible to do it but it has to be right. Before LeBron came back the Cavs sucked. They used their resources to get Love and LeBron so bam there you go.... right now the Knicks are just starting to replenish resources.... we don't have the juice to trade for a Kevin Love and sign a LeBronesque player. We ding even have a Kylie Irving yet.... but that's what we are building towards....

Here is the thing - I agree with the timeline - but we shouldn't worry about any other team other than ours - we can't even get into the play offs, and you're talking about aiming to take down Cleveland & GS?
We need to restock talent. That takes draft picks. We're about to make our second in 4 years.

Well that is the thing no point going to the playoffs and basically reduce you level of draft pick. This time period is built for talent accumulation.
