Knicks · After a month I have no idea who I would take at 8 (page 1)

You never know who might slip
But just not enthrall end with what I think might be left. I like the draft but the tier at 8 is weak. I wonder what other forms of value is out there?

Look at the talent pool.. of the 4 guys picked 8-11 I bet 2 are all star caliber and the other two good NBA rotation guys. We just need to make the right pick Dennis Smith, Monk, Isaac, Mitchell, Frank N... a couple of these guys are going to be excellent NBA players, and most of these guys are top 5 picks in recent drafts.

Selections get tougher but the talent is there.

I would take Issac if available. But most likely he will be gone so that leaves Ntlikina, Monk and Smith.

If the Melo is moved for say to the Clippers for Griffin and Rivers. Than I can see the Knicks taking Ntlikina or Monk. I'm favoring Ntlikina because he seems more PG capable and more polished all around.

If the Knicks are planning on a Melo to LAC trade (with Rivers coming back) - then I would lean toward selecting Monk (over Frank) as Rivers is bigger and the two can balance each other's deficiencies out. Both can handle the ball somewhat, Monk being the better outside shooter, Rivers can penetrate... Of course I'd take Isaac before, but agree he will likely be gone by 8.

I may by default bring my allegiance over to Monk. I dont love Frank N and I dont think Dennis Smith is a winning type player. Monk in the beginning of the season showed offensive explosion that relatively few have in this draft. Its concerning how he dropped off--his lack of rebounding--I mean there is a lot of flaws but maybe the shooting he can bring trumps everything else there. If he can work hard to develop into a PG maybe --bt Im not sure > Its going to be a tough decision--just hope for the best.

Disagree. The tier at 8 is well above average. Fultz, Ball, Jackson, Tatum, Fox, Monk, Isaac, and Smith are 8 players who would absolutely be considered top 5 picks in most drafts. Almost every draft analyst has echoed that. Chad Ford, who recently put his updated big board, has Smith ranked 8 and said he's top 3 in many drafts. If you disagree, thats your right, but you are in the minority. There's no sure thing at #8 in any season, but this is one of the strongest drafts at that level in recent years.

I'm on the Donovan Mitchell train. He's a sophomore with a lot of potential. He disappointed his freshman year, is noted as a late bloomer... we aren't going to get an ideal guy at 8. That said, I like how much improvement he's shown and I really like his frame and athleticism

not every pick is a star. That mentality will make Knick fans balk and suggest why bother, but often you just do the best you can and take a player that can help you. Often a player's downside is just as important as his upside. Who is a given to be a rotation player in the league?

We have a lot of moving parts this offseason. Simply ensuring we add a quality player is paramount. Obviously I want and everyone else wants a stud. Monk has a lot of upside.... especially as Phil is adding a lot of blue collar guys we will need scoring. Phil seems reasonably competent in finding guys who can move the ball and defend... Baker, Lance, etc.. we will need a guy who can put it in the basket. Monk is certainly that. I would prefer more of a clearer 2-way guy but talent is talent. Monk is explosive.

The one thing I learned about Monk is that he is NOT ball dominant. Smith is ABSOLUTELY ball dominant--I dont think that works here. So may problems though with Monk--would need him to kind of find an athletic seth curry type role. Hes pretty good at defending PGs hes an NBA shooter slasher--really I just dont love any of them. Id rather trade down--I dont mind guys like Swanigan/Oliver/Bell/F Jackson/etc.. I think 2-3 of those guys is> to one pick 8. I feel like 8 is a box of chocolate that has two pieces remaining and they dont look as good as what was in there.

Anyone we draft at 8 is going to have flaws. His jump shot improved markedly last year. Give me the guy who is a freak athlete and showing improvement where he's weak.. You can't name a guy who is projected to late in the lottery that's a better idea because there isn't a better option available

I'm also hoping for someone - hopefully a guard - to drop. I just don't want to bank on it. With that in mind Mitchell is my preferred pick. He's not a shooter but can hit a three and defend. Apparently he's got PG potential too. I see him as a fit here

My dark horse for the 8th is Ferguson. I like this kid he has outside shooting ability and is athletic. I see him making an impact.

I'm the opposite. I can't get excited about draft a short 2-guard, so I'm trying to get excited abou Frank's, dsj or Markkanen. There's a part of me that dreams about the possibility of a Markkanen/KP pick and roll or pick and pop. The potential....We will suck next year, so I don't see the need to fill all our holes in one draft.

I'm on board with whomever Phil+Clarence Gaines thinks is best, but have to think it will be Franky N - he has the size Phil craves, high BBIQ, great passing, great defense, and is super young, another trait Phil values. While the floor may be ho-hum, Franky may have one of the highest ceilings in the draft.

If Monk was 6'6 he would be the 1st pick in the draft probably. He literally is the complete package, with exception to his size. I understand it has a major effect on both ends of the floor, but his athletic ability and shooting ability can more than make up for it. How many players in the NBA who are both elite shooters and elite athletes aren't really successful?

Honestly you could say that about 3 or 4 players in the draft. But he isn't 6'6.

No you can't. There's not 1 other player in the draft with his combination of athletic ability and shooting/scoring ability. He's top 3 in both categories in the entire draft. He's the top shooter/scorer in the draft, by far, and top 3 overall athlete.
