meloshouldgo wrote:You are definitely entitled to your fantasy about Melo being a better defender and better fit. But reality is that Melo is piss poor defender and he and LeBron play the same position. Also Kevin Love is doing exactly what the Cavs need him to do, which is taking shots in the flow of the offense and not forcing the issue. Melo would back into a corner and pound the ball for about 18S each time he touches the ball. Whatever is working on Cleveland's offense right now might stop working when that happens.
He'd also chuck a lot of contested mid-range shots. The main risk if you replace Love with Melo is that you replace efficient 3 point shooting with contested mid-range shots. The Cavs can't afford to lose Love.
Funny - I had to leave the room last night towards the end of the game - Cleveland up 3, GS with the ball and I knew that GS would find a way to win.
Lebron the GM is the main person you have to work with here in this scenario. All series, the Cavs haven't had any help from their role players. You had Melo to Kyrie, Love & LeBron, and you've got 4 stars to go at GS and you've got a chance.
If LeBron gets swept, there is definitely a potential deal for us to make with Melo. It's not for Love, its for perhaps for Thompson, Frye, JR, Shumpert- and likely a third team to take one or both of those players.
And honestly, if we netted not players out of the deal, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
There is no trade scenario for melo to Cleveland, that only happens if Melo is brought out or waived, that doesn't happen unless the player is in the final months of his contract.

Are you saying this because we wouldn't take back less value? Because I see a scenario & I think others have that line up on the money - clearly we don't want a JR Smith or Shump because they're pretty bad contracts, thanks to GM LeBron.

So you're thinking a 3 team trade? I don't think any other team wants those contracts either. I think the only way this gets done is if Phil is willing to take JR's contract, and we better be getting a lot of draft picks if that happens. They don't have a lot to give us, though. It could be something like 2018 and 2022 1st round picks. If they'd exchange Thompson and Noah as part of the deal, that would help.

cavs definitely don't want noah, this team is all about running, spacing and shooting 3's..there are not giving shump and jr, and be left with korver as their starting 2..Infact they brought him in to make big 3's and he blew it last night down the stretch.
You see any trade involving melo, needs at least 3 very decent role players or a star making at least 20+ mill.

They also definitely don't want to match up against GS next year without at least one more all-star. Maybe they send us JR and Frye instead. Of course they don't want Noah. I'm sure they'd rather just get Melo for free. The main issue is how much they want Melo.

Yeah Kevin Love sucks, of they had Melo, KD would be shooting 6-23....oh wait, KD doesn't shot like that, someone else does.

Its hard, but not impossible to find a deal.
If we didn't have Noah, I wouldn't mind taking on a Frye and Shump long term. No to JR.
But I think Noah, Melo out to Cleveland with Thompson, Shump and JR coming out works - just need someone to take JR. Maybe JR can have a huge game 4 in a losing effort.
If Melo was in these finals then cavs win. Love is getting open 3s that Melo would eat up

I would prefer someone take JR, Thompson, and Shump..... all are overpaid and likely would bring drama if they played in NYC
We should insist on KLove. I don't want JR and Shump anywhere near the Knicks again.

Love shot about 40% from 3 (12-31). He was streaky but Melo is not more consistent. They definitely can't just replace Love with Melo. If they want Melo, they have to add him to their core 3.

Would Melo get more ast 3s like love and JR did when they went to Cleveland?
Bonn, what kind of value do you think Love has around the league? I see a lot of move Love to Boston but he doesn't work next to Horford and how do you make a trade to improve the team you are trying to beat?
If they can do a S&T for Hayward that would be awesome but would Utah want Love?

Swapping Love for another all-star (Hayward or Melo or anyone else) is pointless IMO. It won't push them past the Warriors. Melo is probably their only chance to add an all-star without giving one up. They'd have to hope Melo plays harder and smarter in CLE than he did last year and they'd have to find a way to effectively use their big 4 on the court despite position overlap. I think it would be a worthwhile gamble for CLE.
The only thing that will stop the warriors from being a dynasty, is injury or if the NBA brings back real defense hand and forearm checking please! The NBA is so predictable you can call every game within the first three minutes of play... there is no structure or game plan anymore, it's fast breaks and chucking = boring as hell

Absolutely! I love seeing players overcome obstacles in becoming champions. I am not a Chicago fan but you have to give them respect in getting past Detroit. I think the new rules have totally changed the NBA landscape and I don't like it. Gone are tough defensive teams and replaced with the run and gun show.

Actually a 28 foot 3 with a hand in your face is incredible. That Durant game 3 shot will be watched millions and millions of times. Stopping a guy with your hands isn't talent. It's lazy. It's much harder to move your feet and stay in front of a player. The new NBA isn't exciting just to me. It's setting viewership records.
