Adam Silver might as well ask Steffie Curry for a date - no touching Curry and don't touch Hardin or any guard while you're at it. Let them take their 3s without a hand on em. Make sure the draft avoids the Oakleys, the Rick Mahorns and the enforcers. Please. The NBA is becoming way too soft. The game is bein played from 22 feet plus out and hands off when they drive. Who needs a Patrick Ewing unless he's a stretch 5 and the great centers and defense is gone. No more games in the 80s and 90s points ... now it's 132 in the finals. Hand checking and Norm Van Lier Scottie Pippin Jerry Sloan and so many more that came in with a lunch pale. The draft is about PGs and SGs and if it's a big it's about whether they can shoot deep not whether they control the paint. Bring back the game Adam or Steffie gotta show up in curlers.

I thought Phil was trying to do this?
There are a few people who long for how the game used to be. I love the game right now and the league is doing well.
Golden State defends at a high level. The key is adjust how you build your team so you focus on great On Ball Defenders, quickness and length.
You also need legit skill at every position. Just having an old school Muscle n Hustle guy that can't score has less value now. You want a guy who can give you that but also hit 3's.
the way guys drive through the open lane now is an embarrassment to the game. And its boring to watch.

Yea silver needs to bring physical basketball back... I think he's afraid if he brings back hand checking and forearm checking guys like curry and harden will just be role players... I wanna see real defense early 90's late 80's defense.... there is zero defense in today's NBA

How is that going to make the league more profitable? That's what Silver was elected to do.
This superteam nonsense is much worse than the game going softer. Let's just get back to Batman and Robin basketball.
I remember when the Knicks, Bulls, Pacers, Heat, Magic, Hornets, Spurs, Jazz, Sonics, Rockets and Suns were all SOLID teams.
It's ridiculous and boring when the best player in the world is on the wrong side of a lop-sides Finals affair.
Making the sport more profitable may have something to do with having competitive franchises in La and Ny and a competitive playoff run. It'd be great to see Knicks under Riley play against GSW if they allowed it to be physical. Derek Harper, Starks, larry, Xavier, Mason, Oak and Ewing. Beat these guys up some and then see if they wanna shoot 3s.

Because he'll be making the NBA more competitive by allowing tough defense creating closer games and allowing teams with less talent but more grit be relevant. Like I've said before the finals 1994 knicks team would be a lottery team in todays NBA and thats ashame. we need to bring guys like oak, rodman, starks, mason back. every team in the 90's had a bad boy who would knock you on your ass, todays nba is soft as shit/boring as hell.

Thats why trading KP for Fultz is a better idea. The league heavily favors ball dominate perimeter players.
I agree that the NBA as a product has big issues
One other thing to add is the extreme inconsistency w the way the game is reffed at the perimeter versus down low
If they're going to have quick whistles on guards they should do same on post play (or vice versa)
One way to beat speed is with length. At present NBA is biased against length
The league has the best businessmen in the world weighing all the issues you guys are talking about. If you look at revenues, it looks like they've made the right decisions.

it is less than half nfl revenues despite 5x the games and more playoffs
it's about half of mlb
Yes it's going up year over year but it's third place at the moment. And if you like the product and the direction it's headed good for you
I think (could be wrong) a lot of basketball fans think the league has changed in a fundamental way. Even when I was on the outside looking in at the Lakers/Celts/Bulls dominating it felt very different than the more recent Heat, Cavs, Warriors (who I admired a lot more prior to Durant [who I actually greatly admire outside the dumb decision to jump on a bandwagon ala Lebron and the Heat])

If you're going based on games, which you appear to be, half of MLB makes sense.
No sport can keep up with football.
I do think the league has changed. It's less about brute force and more about skill. Most players are also actually a lot smarter in their shot selection and most teams are in their transactions due to the emergence of analytics.
I liked Durant's decision. I wouldn't want a league where top teams are not allowed to sign good FAs.

+1
Can someone find out why some players get routinely blasted and nothing is called, while, as stated, the Curry's and Hardens can fling poop from 40 feet away, kick out their feet and get free throws?
Inconsistency with the refs is something I'm dying to find out about, especially as a Knicks fan. By the way, nobody complained about non-calls on a nightly basis as much as Mike Crispino did on ESPN Radio this past season, and now he's gone.
Interesting.

Trying to compare anything to the NFL in this country is just pointless. Except maybe for porn.
I think you have to place a little emphasis on the players when it comes to the defense. Yes, the skill level seems to have risen and that's a good thing but they should be able to play slightly better defense at least. Where is the emphasis on lateral quickness, closing out on shooters in a quicker manner and utilizing smart rotations? These are all things that can be improved upon on a team by team basis, let alone the Knicks.
Anyone who thinks players today wouldn't be able to survive in the 90s are crazy. Despite handchecking being allowed, the would get to the free throw line even more because they would use the hand-checking to their advantage. Players then probably wouldn't be able to Keep up anyway. Hand-checking would be rendered obsolete.

True to an extent
But point is NFL runs things differently than NBA and is crushing NBA
Bonns argument is debateable.
