Knicks · Hopeful scenario (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 6/9/2017 10:51 AM
8 Im sticking with Frank N at 8 from here to the draft. I think the potential for him to grow another 2-3 inches is highly possible--which would make him a 6-7 6-8 combo guard that looks a lot like a version of Jamal Crawford but with D.

12 beg scenario--hoping we can get that 2nd 1st rd round pick from Detoit in a Portland NY Detroit swap and take the guy who i think is a top 5 player and replaces KOQ and Noah Jarrett Allen

44 Looking for droppers here--I think Frank Jackson got a promise from Utah at 30 but if im taking Frank Im going to go older here--maybe even see if I can move up a notch and take Frank Mason with Josh Hart as my back up

58 Depending on getting that 2nd 1--looking to see who falls but I still like one of Burton Meeks or Dorsey

Paris907 @ 6/9/2017 11:02 AM
Crawford a superlative shooter. That's a maybe. Meanwhile at 18 he very well could be at his full height. More likely than not.
fishmike @ 6/9/2017 11:03 AM
Frank will probably come down to a workout. If his athleticism tests with the other guys it will be hard to pass on an 18 year old guard with a great jumper and a 7'1 wingspan who already plays with pros.

Im actually rooting we do take him as I think it means just that... he tested great and could really move the needle for us long term.

newyorker4ever @ 6/9/2017 11:34 AM
I think it will be either Frank Nitty or D.Mitchell at #8 for their defensive potential but both also have good things they can do on offense as well.
Chandler @ 6/9/2017 11:48 AM
Frank N might be 6'7" by American standards. In EP they measure players in socks, and I see him listed at 6'5"
nyknickzingis @ 6/9/2017 12:17 PM
I agree that it's a good bet that if Ntilikina is there at 8, we take him over DSJ or Monk.
I think Knicks don't love Monk, or DSJ. Like but not love.
In which case they go with the kid who has the most growth potential at that point in terms of ability and also the most fitting.
They did this with KP. KP wasn't a lock for a 4th pick, many had him at 6 or so. Two spots later. Phil went with him.

Frank also is an international, fitting into the group we have in NY.

At this point, I'm even fine with sending Melo to a playoff team who has capspace to take the contract, so long as they give back 2 draft picks as well. Just re-build this coming year. Even if the lineup on opening day is Willy/KP/Kuz/Baker/Ntilikina, I can live with that. Bring vets off the bench like Noah, O'Quinn, Thomas, Lee and sign a vet backup PG.

Is there any chance that Frank gets selected before we pick? That would be very disappointing to me.

I agree here. Nicky and Allen would be a monster coup. If Isaac and Nicky are both there at 8, I think you have to consider Isaac though. Not sure I mind if Nicky stays in France a year or two more to get his big boy pants.

This is another clear season where Phil's desire to start Free Agency prior to the draft makes sense for the Knicks. Unfortunately, he can't.

With the 44 and 58, I think you have to start thinking about stashes. There are going to be so many young players that you will be wasting good picks. We have 11 contracts and Justin Holiday and D Rose to consider. So, I can certainly pick two more players in the second round and roster them. But that leaves virtually no room for free agency.

So Briggs, assume that you must pick one foreign player with the 44 or 58 and stash them... who do you pick?

If Frank Frenchy is picked ahead of us, that means someone up top fell.... no worries

I'd take the 7-1 lativiafor euros ice seen. Jeanne looks like he's out

What I like about Ntilikina is that we could probably keep the same team and improve our defense with him.
If you can not get a good deal for Melo, you keep him, you probably stay in the "close to the playoffs, but not quite there' boat, but you're developing players around Melo.

Hernangomez
Porzingis
Melo
Baker
Ntilikina

That's 4 young guys around Melo, and Melo needs to get back to what he was doing in 15-16 and being dad Melo. As much as I am for trading Melo, I want to do it for a good deal without having to take back bad contracts or lack of young talent/draft picks. If you develop those 4 around Melo, you stay competitive and you give them chances to grow and as players without the same pressure as if Melo were not there.

Defensively even, I think with Baker/Ntilikina, the team will do better.
If we can trade Lee for another draft pick, maybe get Justin Jackson who the Knicks seem to like, that's great.

Now if we deal Melo, the need for a DSJ or a player that can do more right away is there like a Monk, who can probably give us 15 points a night if Melo is traded.

Ntilkina is both a "steal" pick in that he's 18, young, and no one really knows his true potential right now, and that he also fits in a scenario where Melo is here next season. With Melo around you need less from your point guard. You need more of a defender, a smart passer, and a guy that can shoot the 3. We saw that with Rose. Rose and Melo had zero chemistry.

There's just a big positive in drafting Ntilikina for the present if we wind up keeping Melo, which is 50% in my book. I don't think it's a given we trade Melo.

I thought you wanted Jarrett Allen or Frank Jackson? Who do you think is the real bpa?

reub @ 6/10/2017 4:32 PM
I think that Orlando is the biggest threat to take Frank. If they take Frank and Minny takes Isaac all the freak wingspans are gone. We'd probably take DSJ at that point, which might not be bad.

8 is a nice spot for Phil....And I said that same thing last year. 8 is at the bottom part of the top 8 safe picks. So all Phil has to do is pick whoever drops. The problem I see if this draft is more than just the top 8.....I think it's a top 10 draft.

Isaac, Ntilikina, DSJ, Monk......At least two of these guys will be available....

I still think Isaac is the best pick. The NBA is dominated by players at his position. We need a young defensive 2 way player, who can play the forward position......Especially with Melos one foot out the door. This also gives Phil more leverage to trade Melo, even if he doesn't get much in return....And make sure he at least gets a veteran PG.....and posibly a PG later in the draft. But your not going to get a young two way player like Isaac in free agency or later in the draft. blocks, rebounds, inside outside game, defense......He brings too much to the table. It will be a blessing if he's available at 8.
