I would trade #8 for Russell.

StarksEwing1 @ 6/20/2017 8:28 AM
back in 2015 Russell was my pick if he fell to us. However I'm not as sold on him anymore. I want to keep our pick because I'm starting to think one of the top guys will fall
fishmike @ 6/20/2017 8:45 AM
its hard to rate our options vs. Russell but I am inclined to trade pick #8 for him as well. He's just turning 21 and still remains a great prospect.
Ira @ 6/20/2017 8:46 AM
If the guy could play a lick of defense, I'd consider it. But not the way he plays now. He hasn't improved much defensively in his second year.
blkexec @ 6/20/2017 8:54 AM
I have a friend who's a Laker fan.....They see Russell as their future SG.

That tells me he's not a 1 on offense.....(negative)
He's too slow to guard the 1 on defense.....(negative)

He appears to be a 2 on offense.....(The only positive)
He's too weak / small to guard the 2 on defense.....(negative)

Survey says......

He's played for 2 years at age 19/20. He was only 18 when drafted and 17 in college. How many kids that age would you say are good at defending at the NBA level? How much defense was James Harden or Steph Curry playing their first 2 years? You have to keep this in context.

That being said I dont scout Laker games.

Knixkik @ 6/20/2017 9:02 AM
He still has a ton of potential. I see him as a phil-type big guard too. I would try to squeeze the 28th pick from them too. I'm really on the fence about this. I think it depends who is still available at #8.
GustavBahler @ 6/20/2017 9:24 AM
Id trade Russell for the 8th pick. He had a f'ed up rookie year with Kobe's curtain call and Byron Scott as coach. Finished this season strong at SG, showed why he was a top pick. This would help speed up the rebuilding process as well.
GustavBahler @ 6/20/2017 9:28 AM
Layden traded the 7 pick (Nene) for Dice who was coming off his second knee surgery. I would say that this would be a much better arrangement for the Knicks.
franco12 @ 6/20/2017 9:33 AM
I might trade 8 for Portlands three and send one or two for Russel, but not 8 straight up.

Yeah, im split on this. On one hand, he can operate out of the pick and roll, shoot and is a willing passer. On the other hand, i think I could drop 25 on him lol. I might do it, but we need to find a quality defender to pair with him, in the backcourt and the wings. The move would ensure a lottery pick for next year as well.

knicks1248 @ 6/20/2017 10:07 AM
I would do this in a heart beat, people can say the same thing about KP who didn't show much improvement this season. Still, having the 2nd and 4th overall pick in the 2016 draft is a good start to building a core.

Baker?

newyorknewyork @ 6/20/2017 10:27 AM
Some things to consider is that since Russell played 2 years already. We would only have him for 2 years under rookie scale salary before he is a restricted free agent.

And he isn't a sure thing. I would want a sure thing for a top 8 lotto pick in this draft. Scoring combo guards always come along. Donovan Mitchell could end up being a similar player when all said and done.

EnySpree @ 6/20/2017 10:28 AM
Dangelo Russell is everything i hate about this generation. He's got alot of living to do. KP strikes me as the same kind of kid now especially how his Brothers are handling him.

Anyway, the potential for us to have two 20pt scorers under 25 years old would be very high if we got Russell. Keep in mind that Phil is actively trying to get another 1st round pick.

I don't think Frenchy is going to be a better player than Russell. I don't think Monk will either. Unless Isaac or Tatum fall, we would be better off with Russell.

Vmart @ 6/20/2017 10:49 AM
No, I'm not sold on Russell actually I was never sold on him even when he was in college. He is slow and very lacking in many areas. In college I always said he never attacked the basket and always started his offense at the top of the three point line. He made some good looking passes but not enough substance. I always thought he was a middle of the pack pick maybe even bottom tier first round. My 8 pick is important to me only because it's a homegrown pick and I do believe who ever we get will be much better than Russell. Just think the unknowns bring more to the table than Russell.
technomaster @ 6/20/2017 10:50 AM
This is fascinating. Everyone was big on Russell because they saw Steph Curry in him. Curry will go down as one of her greatest of all-time.

Not sure what we have in Russell yet, but could he be like Kyrie Irving? A top score-first guard?

if he is truly available, does he have better upside than the pg prospects that have been oft talked about? Of note, all of the pg prospects last year bombed. Guys were handed the starting reigns and failed to impress. (Hield, Dunn).

Will he bring his tape recorder with him?

I can't see the Lakers trade Russell for 8.
One of the LA reporters is denying the story.

If they are willing to deal Russell for 8, I would do it.

Willy/KP/Russell is a great young core that will share the ball and play the right way on offense. Would make this deal. D'Angelo has issuees like most young players but he's the opposite of Rose. Doesn't force anything especially on drives. Always keeps his head up looking for an open teammate. Pretty good outside shooter. I love that kid for us. The problem in LA for him from what I can tell is that they expected him to be James Harden or Steph Curry and he's not that good, but he's still a very valuable player especially as a second or third option without pressure of having to be the main man. Here he'd be coming to KP's team and KP would have the pressure to be the man and leader. Expectations on Russell have been way too high in LA. On the Knicks those expectations and pressures will fall on KP.

I'd do this without any hesitation.

Chandler @ 6/20/2017 11:15 AM
my biggest concerns are his maturity and judgment

Id pass.

agree with the bold, and you surround those guys with players who defend and you have something. Even next year if you get anything useful from Noah, +Lee, a full year with a confident Baker, hopefully we get the Lance back that Phil signed from 2 years ago... suddenly the Knicks start playing better..
