One BIG Difference! Shaq apologized and had his meeting!

Shaquille O'Neal intends to sit down with Laker management next week for an exit meeting more than two weeks late, a team official said Friday.

When the Laker season ended abruptly May 15, in the Western Conference semifinals after three consecutive NBA championships, players were asked to attend brief conferences with Coach Phil Jackson and his staff.

O'Neal did not sign up for a time slot and did not show up on the day of the meetings, May 17. Jackson labeled O'Neal's absence "disrespectful."

O'Neal remains in Los Angeles, however, and has sent word that Jackson should expect him next week, on a day not yet specified.

The Laker center had said Thursday night that he was wrong to skip the season-ending meeting and that he hoped to remedy his error.

"I didn't go to the meeting and I'll take the punishment like a man," O'Neal told Fox Sports Net during an affair celebrating his involvement with the Port Authority police. "I don't make excuses and I'll never talk back. I'll never embarrass Phil. I messed up and when I mess up, I'll always clean up."

Phil said this never happened in his 25-30 years coaching. Are you suggesting he forgot? His quotes in the article make it appear that this really upset him.

Espn is airing KP's story on Sunday morning. This may force a trade. I don't know if it s going to get into all the stuff that happened this season that led to the top down quote or his skipping his exit meeting. If it is I think KP is gone.

Melo and Kp are close so it is said.

This Melo influences Kp. Maybe Melo put KP up to this so he could make PJ look like a REAL bad guy.

To me this is his influence and points to why Melo has to go NOw

Since there's like 8 threads on variations of this same topic, I'll ask around.

What's the problem we're all so upset about exactly?

He's 70 and as I said unlike KP Shaq DID have his meeting and apologized. Why you want to keep glossing over this distinction to try and push Phil's a liar? It's weak and others in the Media are doing the same BS.

He said that in his 30 years of coaching, he has never had a player skip out on an exit interview meeting (maybe other coaches but never him; hello EGO), and he was surprised by it.

He also said the reason they've been fielding offers for KP in recent days is because he skipped out on the meeting and it prompted other GM's to gauge the availability of KP thinking that there's discord with him and management.

He also shockingly said that he's tried to reach out to KP overseas and hasn't been able to reach him over the phone (is KP really ignoring Phil's calls? If so, that's super childish and immature).

Phil was really candid here and showed some contempt for KP rejecting him in a way. We always knew he had a huge ego but it was definitely apparent here. He said we're going to do what's best for the organizations. Based on that interview, I would NOT be surprised if he were traded--although I think it would still take a lot to for Phil to pull the trigger.

Sounds like we're going to do what's best for Phil's ego.

Yeah Ignore KP's

I think you hit the nail on the head. This is the beginning of a player going down the wrong path. This action by KP is surely the beginning of more drama in the future. When ever he doesn't like something pull drama. Whenever something doesn't go his way make more drama. It doesn't matter who the GM or President is KP and his posse will probably pull the same stunts.

OH PLEASE! Only you and other Phil haters really think this is an issue! Shaq apologized and had his meeting so this is no gut and day different. Easy to see how he could forget one instance when it was resolved. What's KP's excuse? KP and his team are trying a power play and it's wrong.

nyknickzingis @ 6/21/2017 11:49 PM
I watched the entire interview and my gut tells me Phil is playing mind games with Porzingis.
He's saying "Ok kid, you want to play your cards? How about I play mine. I can trade you, feel the heat of trade talk. We kept you untouchable, but if you can't appreciate how much we love you, then lets see what the market is for you and maybe we can get better with a trade".

You can't play cards against someone and not have them also play their hand. Porzingis and his brother played their hand. They skipped exit meetings. They don't want to communicate with Phil and Jeff. According to Steven A Smith they are trying to get Phil fired so that Melo and KP remain Knicks.

Well Phil's an 11 time champion who coached men, not immature brats. He's going to play his hand as well. This was done maginificently by Phil. The league is offering us filthy deals. I wouldn't do most of them, but don't tell me anyone would not want a 3 lottery picks on one night, with one of them a proven established starter in the league.

What if the Celtics offered us #3, Crowder and a future (non-lottery) first pick? That's two starters and we have our own #8.
What if the Lakers offered us #2, Randle and Clarkson?
What if the Suns offered us #4 and Booker (I don't think they would)?

You have to consider these deals. Especially if someone is being like KP. There is nothing KP is doing that will move the Knicks forward. He wants to win? How about tell that straight to Phil's face. How about tell Phil he doesn't want Melo traded? That's a man move. KP has pulled an immature brat move. He should suffer the consequences.

Instead of being truthful and saying "we just don't know how to do it"

Sinix @ 6/22/2017 12:25 AM
There's a terrible culture in the Knicks locker room and it starts with Melo.

When your highest paid and best player is not a winner or a competitor and doesn't care about the franchise then it's going to create rot all over. By watching a constant defying and usurping within the Knicks players ranks, mostly by Melo, it's infected players like KP. KP came into the league impressionable. From up top he heard 'ball movement and triangle'. Fish and Melo blatantly spat at that and taught KP this type of attitude towards guys like Phil is cool.

Know how I know it's not Phil who is wrong? Melo has an entire career now of being a loser who is not willing to follow the game plan. George Karl called him out on it. He got D'antoni fired over it. D'antoni just won COTY and Karl is a coaching legend.

Melo has got to go and with the way KP has been acting, give me one good reason why fielding offers for him isn't a good move. Say this with me people 'In the NBA assets are largely liquid'.

The genius of dealing KP is that enough GMs might think Phil actually is incompetent that we can sell high.
