Knicks · the smoke has cleared (page 2)

For that matter, his spot-up jumpers aren’t much better.I get the feeling that Phil could have traded down a few spots and still picked Frank. If he turns out to be the real deal, then it wont matter. Ntilinka will have a lot on his plate next season.
I hope Baker comes back. I'll bet he'll be able to do a better job of helping Frank with the Triangle learning curve than the coaches. Please dont bring Rose back!
That is my main gripe with taking Frank @ 8. If the Knicks were locked in on him, it would have been nice if they traded back for an asset and drafted him a few picks later. Honestly, I don't see too much of a difference in skill level between Frank and Hart and he was the last pick in the 1st round. It is what it is, hopefully Frank develops into a good player. Its all about the front of the jersey.
I agree, I would really like to know what input Gaines had in this decision. Would have thought that he would want Smith jr. If it turns out he was the one pushing for Frank, then I will feel better. I hope he surprises everyone. Hope Frank and KP click, Im sure it will be a more productive relationship than with KP and Rose.
there are 2 type of players phil will draft
1)a senior in college-
2)a international player
he like high IQ players, not the AAU types
No surprise about who we picked,

do you honestly think Mavs wouldn't have picked him, or is this just another opportunity to bash a senile old man
Looks that way, and for $60 million dollars, the worst record in Knicks franchise history as an exec, he doesn't deserve to be so fiercely protected the way he is by some, not necessarily you. Year 4, no more excuses.
I think his harshest critics should consider picking up the stupid, inconsequential shit just distracts and undermines from the legitimate stuff.
So year 4. We already have a decent idea of what the team will be. So excuses aside, what are your expectations?
If it has to do with his responsibilities as an exec then no, its not inconsequential. Its stupid to believe otherwise.
Or, we don't even really know if Jackson's latest infraction actually happened.
What we know for a fact is some people here really wanted to buy into the worse version of it happening.
Stupid to be trying to play hall monitor, leave that to the Mods.I'm responding to what some people argue is a issue relevant to the team.
Also asked what fair expectations are for the team in 2017-18.
Just let it go, its the offseason, and the mods will lock anything they dont like.
As for my expectations, I have yet to check out the other draft picks. Im hoping Baker comes back, he seems like he would make a good bridge with the rooks to the Triangle. I think Rambis is going to scare the piss out of them, lol.
There is still the matter of Rose. If he comes back and returns to mostly calling his own number, there is going to be more turmoil on the team. Id rather start with Baker.
I expect Phil to sign a few vets on cheap contracts to help out, as this team will have a lot of recent draft picks. Hopefully vets on short term deals.
N'Dour (Uptown's favorite player) would be my sleeper pick to have a breakout season. If he's still here.

Ive read that Gaines sometimes was the deciding factor in drafting, wether or not to keep players. Would be interested in what his input was (if any) in this decision. This sounds more like a Phil pick, but I could be wrong.

No one, including me, is suggesting anything needs to be locked up or moderated.
I'm more than happy to discuss some fans really wanting this to be true in a bad way. This is what some fans want to discuss, so I'm discussing it.

Cool, so is there any result that would be deemed a successful year 4, or at least deemed as progress, or is it a failure before it has begun?

There is more than one way to measure the progress of a team. The record is the most important of course, but with the dysfunction that has plagued the Knicks, Im setting my sights lower for next season.
A good season for me would be to see KP take a big leap in his game, a post game in particular. Willy developing a midrange jumper, and much improved defense. I want to see the coaching staff do a better job of teaching this system, and patiently guiding them through the process.
I will consider this season a success if we dont have to gut the roster at the end of the season because the team as a whole has a good grasp of the offense and can play defense.
Playoffs would be nice, maybe they can grab the 8th spot if Melo stays and is healthish, but most of all I want to see this team show some signs of cohesion and stability. Everybody acting like they are on the same page, or at least trying.

I'd agree with your benchmarks generally, my only caveat being I believe a team's role is to put a player in a position to succeed. I however, think it's on the player to make the leaps wanted.
I think the KP was and is a good pick. The tools were identified and are there. Mostly up to KP now.
