Knicks · Good Chance the Knicks pick first next year (page 1)

Jmpasq @ 6/23/2017 7:17 AM
The silver lining of taking a player like Frank over Dennis Smith Jr. or Monk is that we won't have any 30 point games to worry about that steal a few wins. If the Knicks dump Melo I fully expect the Knicks to be one of the worst offensive teams in the NBA. Good chance they average under a 100 points a game. Take Melo and Rose off this roster and add some journeymen bums I fully expect a 15-20 win season next year which should place us in line for what we desperately need, the number 1 pick. The rush starts now to acquire as many young players as we can before Porzingis hits Free Agency. I still think the Knicks should of taken less for Porzingis "2 lottery picks" and hit the reset button. The losing thats going to go on here the next few years may further sour him on NY. I also worry about him staying healthy. While I dont like the Frank pick at least he provides us with some perimeter defense that will hide the slow footed Euro tandem up front. Hopefully we get the wing like "Jackson" we could of grabbed this season next year, and we can finally be delivered from this hell called Knicks basketball

Not sure what you are talking about. Melos' value is at an all-time low now. What team is going to want him for this season, after the comments Phil Jackson made?.... and that's assuming he waves the NTC, which he most certainly will not, nor should he.
dacash @ 6/23/2017 7:33 AM
good thing is we have our draft picks, they are not squandered chasing dreams

Melo value does not matter.
We can just cut him.
He has no use in NY and will be happy to go elsewhere to win games and get backers and extra $$$.
It will be a good gesture from Knicks to Melo who was suffering so long with this sore team.
He deserved it. And Knicks deserve to be fckd too.

Hey - we owe Melo 56 million... Phil makes 60 million, maybe Phil can take a salary cut to offset Melo's hit to the cap... oh wait, we only owe Phil 24 million now...

+1 Allanfan20, I'm always amazed at the level of idiocy on this board that maintains it's in the best interests of any professional athlete to waive an NTC so Phil could trade him to Sactown for draft picks and some Barnes & Nobles gift certificates...

GustavBahler @ 6/23/2017 9:01 AM
Last two times the Knicks were in the lottery, we fell from where we were supposed to be given our place in the standings. Have more faith in the Knicks drafting a sleeper pick than getting the first pick, haven't been close to that lucky.

See? There you go again. Not a realistic trade scenario. At all!

Teams like Indiana and Chicago are going in full-rebuild mode. We have more young talent than these teams. I don't think we will be as bad as some people think.

What does the video tape tell GM's about Melo play?
Its not Phils words that tell the tale, its his actual play.
Nothing Phil says was untrue. Nothing he said cannot be found on tape.
He also complimented his efforts, professionalism, stays in shape, etc. Does it matter? Nope, what are his stats, and what does the tape say.

Buy out, trade, it really won't matter.

What do phils comments have to do with melo's value?

Everyone around the league and in the media likes to run with the narrative that phil is a senile old fool with no idea what he's talking about. So why should they care what Phil thinks of Carmelo? If phil is really as clueless as they believe they should take phils criticism as proof that Melo is a great player...

Praise in public, criticize in private, would have been a better way to go.

How do you know phil has not tried that already? I'd wager he had spoken to melo about these very same things in private, but perhaps those conversations did not turn out to be as fruitful as phil had expected. As a result, he went to the media in the hope that by publicly criticizing melo he could either embarrass him enough to inspire a change or make him uncomfortable enough that melo would waive the NTC. Unfortunately, that plan has seemingly backfired on both fronts.

exactly.

I will add that his attitude affects the rest. That stupid smile when he misses a last second shot. The laziness on D. The chip on his shoulder. All negatives that young players should never see on a team that is trying to build a winning culture.

Okay, okay, maybe just a 5% discount coupon for Starbucks... or just straight up for a dime bag from Maui? Better?

I know because Melo said so repeatedly in interviews. Phil said that Melo wanted a line of communication with him, wanted to keep in regular contact, that it was important to him. Dont believe the interest was mutual.

I dont believe he is lying, he looked genuinely surprised that Phil put their business out there like that. No other exec talks that way about their star player, at least not in public. Would have been much better off keeping it in house like every other exec. Especially those with winning records.

I understand this is suppose to be a burn on the Knicks for picking Ntilikina over Smith, but as is typical you undermine your own argument by overshooting the target.

Smith is NOT the difference between having the worst record in the NBA and making the postseason. What you're actually describing is the difference between having a better or worse lottery pick.

So tell me, which one is better for the Knicks in 2018?

Phil has the same use for dimebags that Melo has for defense. That shits for the role players. Phil's Maui Wowee starts at a Z and nothing less. More Phil hate.

What past history would make you wager that our resident PrimaDonnaPrez, with his own, patented Charlie mouthpiece, is going to try and do things in private, as if Melo or KP or any mere player is worthy of conversations. Phil doesn't converse, he holds lectures in Zen. What does Kobe say? What does Phil say in his books? The man's ring-laden ego is bigger than Shaq's shoes. Phil knows what he's doing. It's just all these darned backfiring outcomes that seem to be a problem.

Did Melo suddenly become a ball stopper AFTER he got the max contract and the NTC? What do the tapes tell us about that?

You don't think in phil's 4 years here he's ever sat down with melo to talk about his game? That's almost impossible for me to believe. I remember when phil first came here he talked all the time about how he was going to turn melo into Kobe or Jordan, so one would have to think during that time period he was discussing with melo the ways he thought melo could improve his game.

I think what Melo was talking about in his interviews is that he wished phil would have sat down with him again before going to the media. Maybe phil never explicitly called Carmelo a ballstopper in his talks with him, but I don't think the things he said to the media just came out of the blue.

Yeah the Knicks actually look more solid going into next year than some teams. They won 31 this year but it's more possible they win more next season not less. The main issue was defense and I think they will not be as bad defensively. Even a small improvement would help.
