I'd probably do that deal. I'd prefer a future #1, but we do need wings. We're thin if Holiday leaves.

They are in a tough spot. Ujiri is very sharp. If he brings Lwry back I think you do that deal. You have to hope that you get Anunoby back at Pre-injury form. I think you would need to plan on moving Lee. Not because Carroll fills his spot but because he has deal that an e moved.

YES.
I wouldn't be terribly optimistic of Carroll returning to form. He seems to be injured almost as often as he's healthy now, which has him looking like he's lost a step. The Raptors, stylistically, might be a bad fit since DeMarre seemed to excel in systems that emphasized ball movement but I wouldn't expect him to be much better even if he found himself in a similar system to what the Hawks use to run. For all intents, he is a bad contract, which is the reason why Toronto would be willing to give up draft picks to move him.

I was thinking that as well but I don't see the Raptors relinquishing any future assets to accomodate his salary. But they do have a bevy of young bench players (Norm Powell, Delon Wright, Jakob Poetl, Lucas Noguigero and Bruno Cubuclo) already on the team. Maybe they would come off that 2018 as well, albeit highly protected.

The East seems wide open with Butler and George being shipped West and the Celtics unable to do anything about it. I think these developments will embolden the Raptors to be all-in on their present, which increases the likelihood of them packaging picks to move Carroll to moderate their impending luxury tax bill.
I do wonder how far we could take our demands. Would Carroll, rights to Anounoby and their protected first next season be overkill?
If the trade were to materialize, I wouldn't stop there with Carroll's contract. I know the Lakers want to do something about that Deng contract and Carroll's is far more manageable being one year less and saving $3 million per for those two seasons. I'd do Carroll for Deng, the rights to Josh Hart and a 2018 first round pick swap.
P.S., I do wonder where we could ship Courtney Lee too. I think the Pelicans, Thunder and Grizzlies would all have interest but I don't see them coming off any discernable asset for him unless a bad contract is involved in return. And personally, I think Lee is good enough for us to not have to accept bad contracts in return.

Manage our cap properly to add a third guy that fits the aforementioned description and we'd be well on our way to being contenders outright.

...Phil was trash and did everything you described. Or are you forgetting the fortune we spent on win-now veterans that didn't stick around past one season (Aaron Afflalo, Robin Lopez, Kevin Seraphin, Derrick Williams, soon to be Derrick Rose) or that we didn't even want past one season but couldn't move (Jose Calderon and Joakim Noah)? Like I pointed out to you before, we could've accrued a slew of draft assets from teams like Sacramento that were interested in contract dumps but instead spent that money on veterans that made us no better.

In order to get him would cost taking on Carroll making it not worth it for us. Without taking on Carroll it wouldn't be worth it for Raps.

Why wouldn't it be worth it? It's only a 2 year commitment of $21 million per. That is fairly reasonable given the market and our objectives.

I've been a proponent of having Joseph be the sweetner for accepting Carrol's contract but given Joseph's play in Lowry's stead and how reasonably paid he is, I doubt the Raptors would want to move him. Who do they sign to be his replacement that can offer that production at a similar price? Or do you think Delon Wright is that guy?

The Suns are supposedly still trying to trade B.Knight and attaching something with him to make it right for the team taking on him and his contract. Now his contract is around 3 more years and around $45 million so that would have him coming off the books with Noah in 3 years. Hornachek knows what this guy has in him since he coached him in Phoenix but he really fell off last year so JH would have a big say in bringing him on but he's had some good seasons in the NBA so i wonder what happened to him last year.
