Knicks · On to the next phase. Trading Carmelo for Kevin Love. (page 1)

-Cavs offered Billups a 5 year deal to become president.
-Billups has stated twice that the Cavs need to trade Love for Carmelo Anthony
-Cavs tried to trade Love at the draft to get in the Butler/George mix but nobody wanted Love that they could work out a 3 team with to get the assets needed to land either of these players
-Lebron James may leave Cleveland in 2018 FA. So Cavs have one more year to make a run and aren't going to do so as constructed
-Love's contract runs into 19-20, while Melo's contract has a player option in 18-19.
-So if Lebron were to leave, Melo would be sure to follow allowing Cavs to go right in reset mode by dumping Melo's contract.
-Melo will get a 1 year shot to play in the finals which would be great for him and his brand. Then he can opt out and pick a team to play for maybe team up with Lebron again in LA.

At this stage we don't want Kevin Love though. So we would need to find another team, Cavs asking price was probably to high which is why teams weren't interested. Since they had to get enough assets to land Butler/George. But I think teams like Mia, Utah, Suns may bite.

Utah can offer up Favors, Diaw and their 2018 first rounder top 10 protected or something.
Suns have Chriss & TJ Warren
Mia can offer future draft picks.

On a side note. Looking at the Suns
I'm wondering if we can do a Noah, KOQ, Kuz for Knight and Tyson. Would save the Suns some money and maybe add some rotation players in KOQ & Kuz. Knight is 25 and at least his age gives some hope that he could better compared to Noah.

All good stuff.... should all be on the table
reub @ 6/25/2017 12:56 PM
Melo for Love would help both teams I believe.

Only if we can flip him to Pheonix...give me that first round pick mofer

As long as we can then trade Love quickly four assets and picks. Do by see him fit with KP/Willy in the offense. But he does play within the flow of the offense.

We just need to trade Melo for a decent pick. If Boston strikes out in getting Hayward, then I think they would switch to Melo as a possible option. Melo and a prospect like Rozier for that pick they got from Philly would be a good deal for both teams.

With them drafting Tatum there is no logic behind trading for Melo.

I think a Melo to Cavs, Love to Utah, Favors-Diaw and first round draft pick works for all parties.

Honestly O just want the draft picks. If they get Favors I hope they trade him to someone else for another draft pick. Diaw might be cool to keep as a team Vet as long as he agrees to try and be a role model to the youth (specifically his fellow countryman Frank)

I can see love going to Phoenix in a 3 way. We get Bledsoe and maybe Warren? Warren would replace some of melo's scoring as would Bledsoe. And Bledsoe in the backcourt with ntilikina and Lee opens up some interesting possibilities and would be a huge improvement on Defense.

Who says we don't want Love? I'll take him hear every day of the week over Melo. We just need a really defensive 3 to make up for it.

I'm pretty sure Love would be miserable in NY. A small market team would be a better fit like Utah, especially if they can keep Hayward. Would want a better defender next to KP as well. Noah is old, and Willy cant play D yet.

anrst @ 6/26/2017 11:33 AM
i don't think phil has the energy or mental capacity to partake in 3 team deals.
knicks1248 @ 6/26/2017 11:43 AM
so on one hand KP's growth has been hampered by melo, yet LOVE who plays the exact same position won't..lol

what kind of a starting line up would have NOAH, KP, and love, a line up that would get roasted on the perimeter on a nightly basis, teams would just run, run, run

BigDaddyG @ 6/26/2017 11:44 AM
I heard a report that Cleve was dangling Love in a three team trade involving Paul George. Don't think it happens, but makes sense if you think we're buying Melo out.
Nalod @ 6/26/2017 11:44 AM
I have no idea how the Melo era unfolds. Media rumors are weak and hindsight with no or little guidence other than the obvious Clev or Clipper thing.
We have no idea what his market value is as a free agent which determines his buy out. We have no idea if he would stay one more year then opt out (highly unlikely at the money owed)
Seems more sporting for us to keep blasting off on the NTC.
