He did apologize for insinuating Odom was on crack to paint Phil as really out of his mind when he signed Lamar.
You know, when you go back in that moment to me it was not for him to be a knick, it was an act of compassion to help a former player try to get his life back. Maybe a miracle happens on the court, but to me it was get him on the court and feeling good about himself.
SAS using it as he did was garbage. This is my impression. Phil didn't sell it, nor did any media.
Sometimes you just do something to help someone pull themselves up.

I'm not a huge SAS fan but he really shouldn't have to apologize. He's a media circus personality who is expected to say controversial and inappropriate things. It's his job.

I don't agree with this. He needs to apologize to Odoms and he needs to apologize period for being over board of the Knicks organization. Lakers are just as bad as the Knicks and they have been tank mode period why are they allowed a rebuild and the Knicks well have to follow the rule of have to win now. He is a media personality treat all the teams equally. Lakers are allowed a rebuild through the draft and the Knicks have to dump their picks for players who don't make a difference.

But SAS is just a gimic analyst. His opinion shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone. If someone gets offended they should just avoid his commentary. Not saying I agree with anything he says or that it wasn't messed up some of the things he says, but he should not matter in the sports world.

I agree the players now a days work like the mob and keep journalists in their back pocket. I wouldn't go past SAS being paid off.
Also according to SAS. There was a 5 team deal in place which would have netted Cavs George and Melo. But nobody wanted Love's contract and Melo was hesitant about going to Cleveland.

To get George and Melo, I do not believe that Melo would say no. That would be even more of a super team than golden state

Odom should never have been mentioned as a subject to demonstrate what he thinks of phil. It was wrong to drag that instance to the public.
Should he apologize? He did. I thought that was a good gesture.
SAS is a funny dude, cuz to me he seems to be an ok guy but has his act where he starts pontificating and preaching and it seems disingenuous. He has to get a rise out of subjects and thats his job/career. With phil, he says he professes his "Love" for the Knicks as his license to berate them.
Its an act, I get it. When he lets emotion get ahead of accuracy then I have little respect for the man.

Phil could have helped L.Odom in a variety of different ways but signing him on to the roster was not one of them.
He was playing overseass and hurt his back. We signed him in April. April.
next season was unguaranteeed.
There was no down side at that time and a low probability he would make it back.
Its not like we got him out of his coma a signed him. He was playing.
My take was maybe he thought he'd bring him around and help him, maybe get into coaching, who knows. Odom was a mess then, and became even more so.
SAS was wrong to bring him in to the fray.
