That is abysmal management by any measure. Had Phil had the team winning and in the playoffs and this stuff played out I suspect Melo goes and Phil stays, but this team gets blasted for its play on the court and blasted for its management off the court. Dolan may be a troll and a terrible owner but when your management has a blunder of this magnitude severance is always on the table. The drama regarding Melo is media fed. The context of this is more simple. Replace Melo with "player A." Then tell anyone on earth what has happened over the last 3 years and everyone who understands pro sports would say "that GM is getting canned."
Dear Phil... thanks for establishing the importantance of the draft and player development. Hopefully future management takes note. Thanks for KP. Thanks for Willy. Hopefully thanks for Frank and who knows if another one of these guys your scouts have found pop. Great job. The rest was a disaster.
Cheers,

thank god the old fish is back
nothing has changed. I can always be patient with a GM/Pres that drafts well and is focused on developing youth. I would have been fine if he stayed. I just dont think this is all as simple as "Melo slayed Phil."
Phil made enough mistakes to get himself chopped. Its that simple. Maybe the next guy Dolan picks will be media savvy. Trade savvy too. Free agent savvy wouldnt hurt either. Twitter savvy is optional.

Thank you Jesus, with the return of normal fishmike, we will now see the second dispersal of the rabid Melohate groupies.

If Phil could have just talked up his most expensive asset, instead of consistently pissing in his own water bowl, counting on his own aura and 11 rings to attract talent and have everyone sit at his feet amazed at his output, maybe Melo is gone and Phil is left standing.
What do we learn boys and girls? Bill Russell tried to just coach. Didn't really work out. Phil tried to just Prez. Didn't really work out. Being at the absolute pinnacle of one role does not guarantee any level of success at the next.
So any guesses at the next book title?
