Knicks · IMO the type of talent we need to acquire for years down the road (page 1)
1)
IMO the type of talent we need to acquire for years down the road
along with some points along the road
Lebron realized that he needs much talent around him both TOP TIER players along with other ALL STARS, young talent, value players, role players, and a team that can defend, score, and facilitate,
With a COACH/SYSTEM to maximize such talent
ALONG with a OWNER/GM that is willing to spend in order to keep the team competing in a high level
When Mike Miller was waived for financial reasons, it rubbed him the wrong way because he took less with Wade/Bosh etc
Now I believe the same can be said for Durant, when they once had Westbrook/Durant/Harden/Ibaka/Reggie Jackson, and the ability to amnesty Perkins and they did NOT, despite reaching the NBA Finals with all that YOUNG TALENT that they eventually traded because of financial reasons.......
BOTH GS and Cleveland were able to become their dominant team in their conference was because of the spike of FA's along with the assets they collected and development, in addition to collecting more future assets to use in trades/cap space
GS was able to sign Curry to a sweet deal which is now looked at GREATLY underpaid but at the time was a very fair offer because of their limited success and Curry's health issues before he became the player he is today
2)
It is ironic, but in a sense we want to become a team like the KINGS/SIXERS that they have some YOUNG PIECES under contract and much available cap space to sign many talents
The same could be said for teams like The Kings/Sixeres, they have many YOUNG talents with much cap space
We would be trying to be like The Kings and Sixers in terms of having young talent and maximum cap space
till about 2020/2021 where there are MANY UFA's that teams will look to all TRY to sign
3)
Now till then, we have to maximize our own development system/players, acquiring assets/trading players/ utilizing our own cap space to possibly sign good/great deals that could be part of our future or become a trading asset, while developing a system/philosophy, identity....
Now properly executing which players would bring back the most value is very important
Which players can net us 1st rounders, which could end up with 1 or 2 2nd rounders, which ones can raise their value/which ones could have the value decrease? These are the type of questions our next PRESIDENT/GM need to ask themselves and which road they will take with the risk/reward?
Do we sign a player such as Blake Griffen or Gordon Hayword? *IMO we shouldn't be looking to sign any player above a 3year deal, regardless of the direction we would have to decide... but such a move would make us unlikely to entertain earlier FA's that we may want at some point like Klay Thompson, Westbrook, Cousins, while i actually would only like Klay and realize it is unlikely, though you do need that 1 player in order for TOP TIER talents to even consider joining us in the future,
CA
Kyle O Quin
Courtney Lee
Lance Thomas
Will Herm *again, he is a solid player however, do we want to pay a 20m deal per year type deal when his 3year ends*? in which would cut in to our available talents 1year later with many UFA's
Consider trading KP, if a team like Boston can surely overpay for KP, as he currently is a tweener but is far from the level/class/potential as Anthony Davis/KAT/Giannes
KP would be a RFA with a qualifing offer in 2019, the same year that Noah and others would be on their final year of their contracts
And unless KP's is willing to sign a short term extension for the better of the TEAM to attack other talents like that would be under his market value, he can sign an extension worth over 30m per year starting in 2019/2020 when Noah etc will be expirings
4)
Both CA and Lebron James can become UFA's together and how that would impact us, which could affect us regardless if it is in NY or not, especially if we CA would in fact remove his NTC
We can also use our cap space to absorb bad contracts for assets
5)
We have to also remember that not many players will not give up the security of a 5year deal, especially if for a SUPER MAX deal if on ALL NBA team's and other qualifications
Some pay prefer a 4year deal with a player option for 4th, the way our current salaries systems is set up
6)
Would we want to entertain players such as Pau Gasol/Dirk for the development of KP
IF Phil Jackson was still here, I could see us trying to get Gasol to help the development of KP along with a possible FUTURE Head Coach after he retires
While NOT an ALL STAR
-------------------------
I would like to acquire Jonathan Simmons from the Spur's which the Spur's have the early bird rights to and can sign a deal similar to Tyler Johnson/
Seth Curry will be a UFA while Dallas will have his early bird rights
Both WESTBROOK/COUSINS could be the earliest FA's but while they can put up big numers/stats, do they make others around them better?
IMO, Wall is a much better player than Westbrook....
7)
Head Coaching GIG, developing a philosophy/system and working hard in the gym and having players that make each other better
At some point we have to consider a coach like Mark Jackson, the type of coach that will help a YOUNG TEAM DEVELOP along with TERRY STOTTS *Portland's HC*
However, I do not see them being LEGIT CHAMPIONSHIP contending coaches
BUT the type of Coach that is great for developing young talent
8)
Other young talents including our 2nd rounders/undrafted talents, even Baker/Randle
Walter Tavares *currently on Cleveland's roster*, Jovic *OUR D LEAGUE player*, Chrisitan Wood, and other D League/undrafted talents/2nd rounders on other teams that we may have a chance at for the right price with the 3.5m we can use per year, dont think Phil Jackson used it for at least 2 years in a row?
Klay Thompson
==========================
Could be a UFA in 2019, 1 year earlier than everyone else
*his ability to defend multiple position, still be one of the BEST SHOOTERS in the entire league, and willingness to play TEAM BALL *SACRIFICE STATS for the better of the team, would be infectious*
it also creates an environment in practice etc, for players to want to become a better shooter,
Klay is among the earlier FA's that I would like to target, if you can convince him to come, getting other TOP TIER FA's is reachable
Some other possible Earlier FA's include, Paul George, Westbrook, CP3 as he will be a UFA next summer after the trade to Houston
This summers FA's, BLAKE GRIFFEN, Gordan Hayword, Jonahatan Simmons, Waiters, James Johnson? Iggy/LIVINGSTON?, Pau/Dirk??
MOST OF THESE FA's will be available 2020, when Noah, Lance Thomas, Courtney Lee contracts end
However, KP is also eligible to for an extension the same year, which would eat in to our ability to
*most players here are UFA at 2020, when Noah, Lance Thomas, Courtney Lee Expires*
Most importantly they are ALL FA's the same year together, in which we can look to acquire draft picks/develop a young core, attractive enough to attack these FA's
We need to not only look to develop young players but also look to trade our own players and look to acquire assets as well
However, how can we maximize such players value? For instance, Kyle O Quin's contract has a player option for his final year, and will OPT out of it
With Noah's suspended games for PED use, some time this upcoming season would probably maximize his trade value
Can we finally trade CA, now that he has won the battle with Phil Jackson and get back some value?
Will Willy Herm be part of our future? he signed a 3year for about 4mill, which would give us full bird rights, but we are unlikely to want to match a HUGE offer for him with the way contracts are given out
Now if KP is traded with MAXIMUM value with CA this year, possibly to the same team, it would greatly open minutes up for Kyle O Quin/Will Herm but would this help or hurt the value of these player?
I think it should help Will Herm's value
IF Paul George does get traded to another team outside of Boston, it is very possible that Boston can include a HUGE package to trade for KP, possibly with CA as well, while they can still sign Gordon Hayword
And also send out players such as Tyler Zeller, Marcus Smart, possibly Avery Bradley/Jae Crowder/Jalen Brown on top of, Jason Tatum or Josh Jackson if traded to The Sun's
Good thing Phil Jackson DID NOT send out ANY OF OUR 1st rounders, while Boston has MULTIPLE 1st round talents coming in along with many 2nd rounders
Boston has many 1st rounders of OTHER TEAM that are expected to be in the lottery along with many of their own 1st rounders
They own 7 1st rounders in 2018 to 2019 alone, not including the draft rights and players they currently just drafted
http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/f...
Boston's draft picks owned, however, it doesn't even show their own 1st rounders which they own ALL OF

John Wall
===================
Possibly John Wall *depending on how our 18year old continues to grow and develop, with the possibility of FITTING TOGTHER*
Not only is John Wall one of the quickest/fastest players both with and without the ball in the ENTIRE LEAGUE, but he is a LEGIT facilitator, great defender/rebounders for the guard position, pushes pace consistently, and can penetrate/finish consistently, with insane athleticism, makes players around him better, is a LEGIT leader, and most importantly, has developed a 3pt shot last year
Anthony Davis
======================
Not sure what to expect of from KP, but currently he is a HORRIBLE 1v1 defender, he is a GOOD HELP DEFENDER on shot blocking, he is working hard on the gym, however, I feel he is working too hard in the gym with weights, while that would decrease his mobility *which is not very good already, with his slow foot speed*
Though it was only KP's 2nd year and he can get much better, he is just far away from the talent/versatility of Davis and many others....
IMO, he should be getting stronger with more repetitions and other ways to get stronger, utilizing his length, working on his foot speed, rather than forcing his strength with weights, look at Kevin Durant/Dirk, Steph Curry, Iman Shumpert *he use to be huge with muscles in New York, along with Kobe Bryant while he was young in the mid/early 2000's and then decided to tone it down as it took away his mobility/shooting touch, for strength, though he was able to post up more
KP should probably be looking at the games of Dirk/Pau Gasol, KAT, possibly Anthony Davis
We saw the difference in Anthony Davis and KP last season when they played each other 2 times last year, he was clearly NOT on the same level as Davis, however, they would work GREAT TOGETHER
if NOT possibly Draymond Green
WHITESIDE?
=========================
Giannes *Greek Freak*
==============================
I have always been a huge fan of him, prior to his draft and he will be the BEST 2way player, with the versatility to literally defend 5 positions and still be able to help
His only weakness, is his shooting, however, he is a gym rat and will be turning 23 in December
He can possibly become a UFA in 2022 *the furthest among all the type of talent, with the biggest upside and with the development of FRANK, we would be able to tell if they will be good fits and a fantastic defensive dynamic combo
I love Giannes but if he would pull a CA/PG 13, I just do not see us taking a chance on holding our salary for only a possibly to get acquire him with the possible FA's to acquire to form a possible dynasty
There is also a chance that if we cannot put together an attractive young core that we can become an AMARE/CA situation which we MUST NOT repeat the same mistake of, but keeping our assets/cap space....
Other possible candidates instead of Giannes, are both possible FA's in Kawii and Butler
Kawaii and Jimmy Butler
=========================================
Other solid players that we can look to acquire *if they can cost much less*
=================================================================================================
Aminu *2019, same year as Klay Thompson, 1 year b4 all these FA's are available with Noah and others contracts will be on the final year*
possibly Jae Crowder * UFA 2020 when everyone will be a FA and Noah etc and all the 4year deals that were signed last year in the entire league*
Allen Crabbe can be a UFA either in 2019/2020 or 2020/2021 with a player option
maybe Kyle Anderson
Step 1 develop culture
Step 2 acquire and develop talent
Step 3 sign or trade for new players that will take you over the time while maintaining the strong culture you've created
