Melo for Ariza and Ryan Anderson.... works cleanly
Houston still has Eric Gordon... maybe we sub out Ryan for Gordon... add future picks...
I would be cool with it... it's about transition. These rookies as young players need good examples to follow
This deal makes sense to me. But I don't think Houston wants Melo not at the expense of losing MDA.
What could you possibly win with Harden and Melo in the same line up on defense?
I don't really see them getting better with Melo so they shouldn't do it.
Ryan's contract is pretty horrific- 3 yrs at $20mil, so I would say no to that. I would however do a trade for Eric Gordon, ariza and scraps. Houston would only do that if they had a pre agreement with CP3 (as a condition for him signing).

Melo is the black hole you need to pass to Egan you can't find a bucket... he's also a guy you can pass to in stride especially when teams are doubling Harden and Paul. Its the perfect place for Melo to do what he does.
Plus they still could used the mid level exemption.

I look at Melo as a marginal improvement in their offense while their defense probably gets worse.

Ariza is good but more suited to be the the 5th guy you sign after you have 3 stars and a rebounder.
Melo would be the 3rd superstar and would be wide open because of that back court

Maybe expand the deal a bit - Melo & Courtney Lee for Gordon and Anderson (works on the checker)
Lee I think would provide a little more value to Houston as a 6th man - can basically back up 1-3 (with Harden shifting to point when CP3 takes a breather) with good defense and 3pt shooting.
Gordon on the other hand might fit better as a scoring guard (would probably be the 2nd option on offense after KP) for us and is a few years younger than Lee. Anderson's contract is unsightly but he can at least drain some 3s off the bench.

I still see quotes from MDA saying Melo is a good guy, but have to imagine that's just playing nice in public. Does he really want to risk it?
Plus every time ball is in Melo's hands it's not in Hardens and CP3's
If I were the Rockets I'm looking for complementary pieces and not another ball hog
I would be fine with Ryan Anderson (and a couple of the non-guaranteed contracts to match salaries) and a 2020 1st round pick. Anderson replaces some of the offense of Melo, plus we add a draft pick to help the rebuild, and will open up a few extra million in cap room. I'm not expecting much, and i don't love Anderson's contract, but adding a future pick and getting a younger, more fitting player isn't a bad deal.

Ariza's usage is less than Melo's but he is a +5 offensive and defensive rating and Melo is -4.
The more I think about this the more I feel that there are only 2 scenarios with melo. Either he stays or gets traded to the cavs. It would be a clusterfuck in Houston if he is traded there.
