Knicks · Kyle O'Quinn for Jae Crowder, Jordan Mickey, Demetrius Jackson (page 1)

.. makes a lot of sense for both teams

Clears up the logjam at SF for Boston, frees up the required cap space and fills a position of need (center), while adding defense and rebounding fitting the Celtics' timeline

This would be a great trade for the Knicks for obvious reasons

No way Boston would do that deal. Crowder is way to valuable for them.

I don't think O'Quinn is nearly the standard they are looking for, but I do agree, that we might be able to get Crowder, but not unless we give them back Porzingis. Something like Smart, Crowder, Mickey + 2 1st round picks for Porzingis would be a fair deal and would help both teams.

Under normal circumstances, KOQ wouldn't get you Crowder - we all agree on that. However, this is not normal circumstances. Boston just committed to a max contract for Hayward and they need to clear cap space - so they need to do a salary teams. Other teams know this and will look to extract value from this. This trade addresses a number of their needs, so I would consider it a fair price for Boston.

They could look to just offload Marcus Smart, which would free up the required cap space.

I meant salary dump.
MG22 @ 7/5/2017 6:15 AM
I think Celtics would be stupid to dump Smart to free up some salary. He is much to valuable and talented. Crowder has one of the best contracts in the whole NBA, so he is a player that a lot of teams would like to have on their roster.

I do understand what you are saying but the thing is, that Boston got all the cards on their hands. It is easy for them to get rid of their good contracts, and that is really what they have got all around their roster.

Crowder can play some small ball 4 and they need depth to compete with the Cavs. Their sf depth is loaded though. They picked up Semi O. in the second rd on top of Tatum. Tatum and Semi may also play some small ball 4 too.

Look at Boston's contract situation. They need to offload either Crowder's contract or Smart's contract to sign Hayward. Look at the teams with cap space - they're all basically going to be lottery teams. Are they going to give a lottery pick for Smart or Crowder? They'll be happy to take them into cap space and maybe give up a second rounder, but does Boston want that? Boston only has the room exception to sign another rotation player, so I think they would want a cheap vet back if they can.

Anyway, we'll soon see which direction theygo in.

We get Crowder for KOQ (and/or any other bench flotsam) and don't trade any future draft picks, Mills should lead a shareholder revolt and become owner of the team.

Celtics are rumored to be waiving Mickey.

We need all waived players to be knicks.

I do understand the way you think about the cap-situation in Boston. The only problem is that Crowder has one of the best contracts in the NBA. He is a great teamplayer and almost every NBA team could use him on that kind of a deal. O'quinn on the other hand....

I like your idea about trying to use Celtics cap-situation against them, but it's not really a huge problem for them, as they have got so many good contracts. I have even read today, that they are rumoured to be interested in Marc Gasol, which would definitely make them contenders and at the same time they have to take on luxury tax.

If we should use the cap space against Celtics we might construct a deal around Porzingis for Smart, Crowder and Bradley. That would really be great value for Knicks. Then we can move Melo to the PF, Crowder to SF and have Smart or Bradley starting as guards, and the other one coming of the bench. That would be a fun team to watch, and it might actually take os to the play-offs if we can make it work.
