Knicks · Knicks smart to secure SMART (page 1)

I'm a Smart fan. He is a defensive ace and his 3 PT % is deceptive as it increased signicantky as the season wore on. It was evident in the playoffs. He's no mentor but a super building block. Easy trade for Knicks. Just don't give up a 1st!

I've been chatting with a Celtics fan this morning. The Celtics are asking for a pick and Hernangomez for Smart. I doubt a deal gets done because Ainge has to WIN every trade by a large margin... usually in a salary dump for a prospect that, while good, is a disappointment a pick follows the salary.

I have no interest in dealing Hernangomez, at least not for Smart. The former has a chance to be really good. The latter is a nice piece but not nearly as good as many thought he'd be

Ainge is so greedy....... a second rounder should be enough but he wants one of our best young pieces too..... Smh

I saw a couple of conversations about that deal on twitter. I agree about Willy. He has a great contract and Smart is due for a big raise next summer. The Knicks can't deal picks. Ainge probably gets a good deal fr Smart but unless the terms change the Knicks should stay away from a deal for Smart.

Yeah, I was actually thinking they should include a pick to us for allowing them to clear salary to sign Hayward.

The beautiful part of rebuilding is that we don't have to do anything. Knicks hold all the cards. They are getting any pick from the Knicks because the Knicks are the ines doing the favor.

Off the top of my head with no inside knowledge I feel that's the asking price for Bradley and not Smart.

KOQ for Smart works for both teams. We have a glut at Center. We need a veteran PG. They have no bigs. KOQ analytically is better then Smart. But he isn't going to be on the Knicks for the long term and I don't think a team will give up a first rounder for as it stands.

I don't consider Smart a "veteran" PG. He's still developing his niche in this league. But I agree, I would have no problem moving KOQ for Smart but I wonder how that helps their cap situation to sign Hayward?

Rookie @ 7/6/2017 11:07 AM
according to this chart http://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/, there are 2 teams with enough cap to absorb one of the Boston contracts and 12 more that could create the necessary cap space by releasing cap holds. That said, I don't see any of the 14 teams giving up a young prospect and a 1st rd pick for any of the three (Smart, Bradley, Crowder).

The only team in any scenario that needs to make a move is Boston, although I could see Utah wanting to get back an asset after losing Hayward. Thing is, the way it went down with Utah losing both Hayward and the ability to make an offer to Porter, they likely aren't going to do anything that would embarrass the organization and give any assets to Boston

Yeah, teams know Boston has no leverage and none of the players they're trying to move will take anybody to the next level. All three guys could help the Knicks but none of them are game changers. If I'm the Knicks I just sit back and see what happens but I definitely wouldn't give up a pick for any of those dudes.

Either Ainge is crazy or we're crazy for even considering that deal. Tell Ainge to kick rocks and see if he can get anything close to that from anybody else. Seems like he's just using the Knicks just like free agents.

lol I'm sure mills said " hahahahahahahahaaha how about oquinn for smart strait up hahahaha willy and our first your a crazy sob!"

stanleybostitch @ 7/6/2017 11:21 AM
I laugh in Ainge's face and hang up if he calls with the reported Willy/1st demand. And then I will laugh in his face again when he is forced to just cut some of these guys so they can get Hayward onboard.
Nalod @ 7/6/2017 11:23 AM
How do we value him? 30 min avg, 10.6 pts, 4 rebs and 4.5 assists a game.
He is restricted next summer.

He was the 6th pick in his draft. THats a lottery kid. He is 23. Not a bad player, better than Shump!
Shump got 4 year 40 mil. What his worth? 15mil a year?

Ainge of course wants a first rounder. Im not giving him that. I'll give him KOQ. Thats where we have some surplus. Its where they have need.
Im not giving up picks. But I'll trade Willy for Smart and a pick protected to 5th.
THats a starter. Not sure whose pick does that for me in the treasure chest that Boston has but Willy replaces Olynyk better. Boston enrich's itself and saves cap to get Haywood.
I like Willy. At the same time, would willy be a top 5 pick in the draft? If so, Phuck that, I wants Nets pick.
Willy is cheap, and ready to contribute NOW to their quest.

Danny Ainge has to win every trade by a wiiiiiiiiiide margin. I think it's pretty much impossible to deal with him. Every other salary dump trade in the history of the league is something like "Smart plus a future pick." I think Smart is good enough just to trade him for cap space. But the dude is a rental at this point. Ainge thinks Smart is almost as valuable as Paul George smdh

smart is a 6th overall pick in his draft just 3 yrs ago, willy is a 2nd rnd pick, who can't play a lick of defense to save his life.. and they never said what yr the pick had to be. smart kind of sucks though..lol

fishmike @ 7/6/2017 11:28 AM
Smart would be a great pickup for the Knicks, but the timing is wrong. He's going to get a big raise next year and does that make sense for the Knicks? The Nets will offer him $20mm a year and force the Knicks to match or lose. If the deal is for KOQ ok...
