I've been chatting with a Celtics fan this morning. The Celtics are asking for a pick and Hernangomez for Smart. I doubt a deal gets done because Ainge has to WIN every trade by a large margin... usually in a salary dump for a prospect that, while good, is a disappointment a pick follows the salary.
I have no interest in dealing Hernangomez, at least not for Smart. The former has a chance to be really good. The latter is a nice piece but not nearly as good as many thought he'd be
How would a fan know what they're asking for him? If a fan knew then the media would definitely know and it would be all over in tweets.

Off the top of my head with no inside knowledge I feel that's the asking price for Bradley and not Smart.
KOQ for Smart works for both teams. We have a glut at Center. We need a veteran PG. They have no bigs. KOQ analytically is better then Smart. But he isn't going to be on the Knicks for the long term and I don't think a team will give up a first rounder for as it stands.
How much money do they need to dump? I thought it was about 3mil which they would get from the S&T for Crowder. I thought them moving Smart & Bradley is because they are both FAs next summer and they want to get something in return for them before they lose them for nothing. KOQ while probably not a long term option will give them something they need currently.

smart is a 6th overall pick in his draft just 3 yrs ago, willy is a 2nd rnd pick, who can't play a lick of defense to save his life.. and they never said what yr the pick had to be. smart kind of sucks though..lol
Willie held a 123. WS48 last season(Smart 064. and due a raise) while making 1.5mil. Averaged 7 rebounds in 18mins. His numbers at a 36mins per game rate is 16pts 13.6rebs 2.6ast 1.1stls 1.0blks on 52fg%.
Next season you give him 30 mins a game and watch his numbers climb with more mins and just being a better player with growth. His value would net you waaaaaaaaaaaaay more then Marcus Smart.

Shump got 4 year 40 mil. What his worth? 15mil a year?Ainge of course wants a first rounder. Im not giving him that. I'll give him KOQ. Thats where we have some surplus. Its where they have need.
Im not giving up picks. But I'll trade Willy for Smart and a pick protected to 5th.
THats a starter. Not sure whose pick does that for me in the treasure chest that Boston has but Willy replaces Olynyk better. Boston enrich's itself and saves cap to get Haywood.
I like Willy. At the same time, would willy be a top 5 pick in the draft? If so, Phuck that, I wants Nets pick.
Willy is cheap, and ready to contribute NOW to their quest.
evidently Danny and I don't agree on this. He wants Willy and a pick, and I want smart and a pick!!!
Nalod delusional? perhaps.
Where smart was drafted is not of consequence now.
Keeping him from getting fat would be. Dude is thick, its a long lean league now. He is build like a running back!!

If that was the offer then its due to a lack of respect. But I have a hard time believing that was the offer. Information had to have gotten mixed up somewhere and that was the offer for Bradley.

Yea I thought they were settled and just going to do the S&T - Utah gets something back, and Ainge gets his man.
I guess he is greedy? It's one thing to build leverage, and tell Utah take Smart or I can just trade him to someone else- it's another to go out and continue to shop a deal.
Maybe Utah is playing hard to get, forcing Aigne to look elsewhere?

i view it as no different than Derrick Williams or Brandon Jennings... Smart likely will not return if we trade for him but we essentially have an option to keep him if he magically blossoms
As much as Begley is one of the better Knicks beat reporters, his knowledge of the salary cap and trade values leave much to be desired

If you want to build a great D behind Willy/KP I would say Ntilikina and Smart are a good start.

if the blossom is already there, then I say pass on Smart... he had a PER of 12 last year, and averages 11.5 for his career. I see him as a defensive version of Evan Turner. If what you see is what you get, he provides no value to us.
This was sort of my point to begin with - if we're getting him because of salary dump WE should get a pick, not the Cs

The point is it doesn't matter where your drafted once you have an NBA history. Willy is simply a better player than Smart right now. Just to be clear, we're talking about a career .358 shooter! They better be giving us picks if we're swapping Smart and Willy.

All three guys could help the Knicks but none of them are game changers. If I'm the Knicks I just sit back and see what happens but I definitely wouldn't give up a pick for any of those dudes. The only team in any scenario that needs to make a move is Boston, although I could see Utah wanting to get back an asset after losing Hayward. Thing is, the way it went down with Utah losing both Hayward and the ability to make an offer to Porter, they likely aren't going to do anything that would embarrass the organization and give any assets to Boston
A game changer for this Knick team? What are you crazy? Giving up a #1 pick for him? No FUKING way
