Knicks · Avery Bradley to Detroit for Marcus Morris, per Shams (page 1)

I think this means they won't be matching offers on KCP
fishmike @ 7/7/2017 10:20 AM
Det got a good player. Boston losses this deal but I guess they prefer that than the cheaper guys. Bradley was very important to that team and now they have two guys who are SF and not really SGs.

Does that save them enough cap space for Hayward's contract?

approx. 3.8M I think that does do it for them

This isn't about saving money for Hayward. They can save that money by moving Crowder or Smart. They most likely have a Crowder deal already in place. Bradley is an expiring contract who they would have to pay 20mil next off season. Morris makes 5 mil over the next 2 seasons. So they would have him locked in for 2 seasons without worrying about having to pay him more. Morris also is a stretch 4 which they need since they have no PFs after Hortford who they probably want to play more Center.

Yeah they now have more than enough cap space to sign Hayward.

I wonder with the acquisition of Morris whether or not they would be more likely to trade Jae Crowder? They could use Courtney Lee or Kyle O'Quinn or both.

Was KCP any good? I read conflicting things about him. Would have rather taken a $10mil per year risk on him than $17mil on hardaway

Good, not great. But he'll make much more - not less than THJ.

So you can apply a 10mil value on a guy you proclaim to know nothing about whose career has been a negative trajectory than THjr whose trajectory is on the rise?
Batum makes 22mil a year. JR Smith, a clown makes 15mil.

I can't wrap my head around the numbers either, but Im looking at the player.

Will the Knicks ever make trades like this? Avery Bradley would have been better than THjr. Oh well.

I know a bit more than nothing about KCP- I know he's meant to be defense first, I know he started showing signs of 3pt shooting, he looks quite athletic. If the Pistons are capped out and can't sign him (they're hard capped)- there aren't many suitors for him, so I think you can get him on a cheapish contract compared to Tim Jr.

Detroit can sign him up to a certain salary (about 17M)....maybe more depending on the timing of Langston Galloways contract. Otherwise they would need to drop salary in order to match an offer above the hard cap line.
