Knicks · Griffin, Knicks moving towards contract talks (page 2)

So Griffin wants the same team that advised him to draft Anthony Bennett over Gianna Antetokounmpo? Yeah, so about that.....
mlby1215 @ 7/9/2017 8:23 AM
As a GM, Griffin actually has done much better than Mills ever could. I don't know, but should Griffin be the boss instead?
Sinix @ 7/9/2017 8:49 AM
This is another Isiah Thomas type move.

Griffin isn't known for prudently building a team from scratch.

He's one of the good ol boys around the league who overpay for players. He overpays for guys like JR Smith, Iman Shumpert and Tristin Thompson. Will fit right in with the Knicks giving out terrible contracts like THjr. But hey, he's well liked around the league right?!

Those moves were made to win a championship which he accomplished...working in cleveland was a different set of circumstances than the work that needs to be done here...

Isiah Move? First off you have a very involved owner. Second and this is big, He paid players that:
Won a freaking championship!!!!
Gilbert and Lebrun involved makes for a very unusual dynamic.
Instead of being stupid, why. Not read up on the guy. He paid his dues: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Griffin_(basketball)

Griffin has a good history dating back to the Suns(Nash era) and the Cavs(Championship).

Mills will still be president. Griffin is it to be hired under Mills who will have the final say.

Griffin is known as a capologist. That seems to be his strength. I am guessing Horny and Gaines will be the bball minds. Don't know if Mills is a big metrics guy or not.

So we will have questions on if Horny is a strong enough bball and Mills is a strong enough metric guy if one at all. Hopefully Griffin is able to set up cap similar to Mavs where they can often retool their roster due to constant cap flexibility. Horny can voice what pieces he would like to create the balance he needs.

Not a fan of Mills but I agree fully. But this is the Knicks, changing direction three times in the same off season is to be expected.

Mills would be President, Griffin GM.

Dolan should be thanking Griffin for giving him an excuse to clean house. Dolan probably feels comfortable with the same team, doesnt want to fire long time employees, understandable.

Unfortunately comfortable is what turned the Knicks into a running joke. Comfortable with the status quo. Franchise needs a major shake up. Keeping the same people around, year after year, regardless of how the franchise competes is crazy.

Are you sure about that? What about the team that targetted Bennett?

He replaced the guy that drafted Bennett.

I just hope he keeps Jeff. I think he can get a good thing going here.

Anyone willing to be GM under the puppet and the puppet master can not be taken serious.

You know, Griffin had a career before Cleveland. People act like these last couple of years in Cleveland is all that's on his resume.

I am on the fence about keeping Jeff. I loved the hire last summer but I think a GM needs to be on the same page with his coach. Once he finds the coach that believes in the same system/team building strategies, he needs to get the coach players that will make that work. I think Sean Marks did that in Brooklyn. I think Phil's guy really was Rambis. I think Griffin should be allowed to get his guy. Maybe he decides that Jeff is the right coach.

Pretty sure Hornacek has the season to show what he can do without any interference. This would be the first time since his first season in Phoenix (coach of the year runner up) where he wasnt in the middle of something between mgmt and players.

Believe he would have earned more goodwill from the players if he pushed back harder against mgmt, but thats in the past. Im pretty sure the team is in a much better place than they were to end the season. More optimism.

The guy spent 17 years with Suns and grow in their organizations basically from the bottom up. The Suns are considered one of the most respected organizations in the NBA. He was the senior vice president of basketball operations for several seasons before joining the Cavaliers. His career isn't entirely build around Lebron James making him look good.

Mills would be President, Griffin GM.

They don't need to do this. It does nothing but set it back in the direction. Creating conflicting ideologies it is not conducive for flow.
