But we will be at a defensive disadvantage--too small at 3 and two slow at 4-5 combo.
I actually disagree. I don't think the smaller size difference on D will be quite as bad as you think. Making guys have to shoot over you rather than just blow by you can be very effective if you have guys with length rather than head height.
As for KP and Willy I don't see them as a disadvantage when you surround them with quick active defenders. Our issues were mainly that our guards weren't able to stay in front of their man or fight over screens and that exposed our bigs WAY too much. We needed more quickness to help and recover. Also just WANTING to get stops with a passion makes a difference. We have more of those guys now and gotten rid of the guys that don't give Max Effort.
Timmy isn't really that small. What is he an inch shorter than the average SF? I'm not sure how bad our rebounding would be though.

Tim hard away is 6-5 200 per draftexpress. For example if he had to guard Carmelo who is 6-8 240
Most nba 3s are big guys
I thought Timmy could only really guard SGs

Sorry just saw this. Was busy responding to your "Hawks will definately match TH Jr offer" thread.
No, Timmy at 3 is not a good idea. Did you happen to notice how bad our defense was having guys play out of position? KP should be a 5 (if he had more weight)..he isn't a 4. Melo should have been at the 4...he was not. And now you want a 2 guarding the 3? Can't wait for that Timmy vs Crowder, Greek, Batum, Leanord, Bron, Melo, Durant, George, etc..match up.

Yeah but its still better than last year. If we had a more mobile 4 we would be a lot better off

Hmmm. He's listed at 6'6". Yeah, it won't work against every lineup. It would be hard for him to guard a combo forward/PF. That said, Melo is too slow to keep up with Timmy on the other end. I think the mismatch would be harder for Melo than Timmy.
I have an idea....how bout we wait until we do this Melo trade and see if we do any other trade, which is very much possible, before we decide on who will be playing SF or PF or PG or whatever spot cause there's a good chance that we have a new starting SF in the Melo trade, or that we sign one after we figure out the trades or who we're trading cause we could end up with some cap space after the Melo trade or if we decide to trade C.Lee and could use it on J.Simmons who we've already been rumored to be wanting to sign. Just a thought.

How about Haywood, Giannis, Porter, Lebron, and etc? If Simmons, Isaac, and Tatum are real then those are some more issues in the east. I don't even want to think about the western conference.
the mix really depends on what we look like post Melo. We could have Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordan and have no trade for Courtney Lee and then immediately sign Rondo to the full MLE. That would be typical Knicks.
Still... I will wait to see before pasting them.
I still don't get keeping Lee especially if you are eyeing other guards in FA especially when you can sign Holiday to a cheaper deal. Holiday and Hardaway is a younger cheaper route with the opportunity to add draft picks. I guess the theory depends on if teams actually value Lee.
