I know nothing about Scott Perry. The Kings front office has not been good for awhile but has had a good draft and offseason.

From what I've read, he played a critical role with Joe Dumars and the Pistons during their run in the 2000's, had success with the Oklahoma City Thunder and played a role in building that team up with KD and Westbrook and is now VP with the Kings. For what it's worth, Billups spoke very highly of him as a GM and he's well respected around the league among players and agents (a good thing).

I like the move.

Awesome. Thanks.

Glad to hear that it doesn't look like its Houston. Would like to know more about Perry, why him? Would also like to hear the parameters of any deal as well. Wont have much of a say going in if Griffin couldn't get autonomy.

Hope Mills has the stones to face the media, the fans, and explain the rationale for his decision this time. Not a blurb from media relations.

Phew, talked me back from the ledge. Sacramento not exactly the stellar organization we should be recreating.

smackeddog @ 7/13/2017 4:32 PM
Perry should be used to dealing with an idiot owner from working with the kings.
Knixkik @ 7/13/2017 4:33 PM
I see no issue here. He seems like a seasoned guy who will bring a lot to the organization, without bringing a big ego. He was obviously brought to sacramento to provide stability to their front office, and although only there 3 months, he seemed to have contributed to them being in a much better spot.

More than anything, i love that this hire implies that its not business as usual at the Garden. Normally, we chase big name guys. Perry has been a part of a championship team as well as helping with a rebuild....I like the hire if it actually happens.

This bit disturbs me:

In his time in Orlando, Perry helped draft Victor Oladipo (2013), Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton (2014), and Mario Hezonja (2015) in Orlando.

Ditto. Having an actual bball guy as GM at least adds the voice of experience. Maybe Perry can earn that autonomy. Definitely should be given the opportunity, if hired.

BIO

Perry was hired only three months ago as the front office's No. 2 to GM Vlade Divac, just after days he was dismissed as the Orlando Magic's assistant GM. Perry played a part in drafting Kentucky point guard D'Aaron Fox with the No. 5 overall pick and making a draft day trade to move back and draft twice more in the first-round, selecting North Carolina's Justin Jackson.

In free agency, the Kings signed veterans George Hill, Vince Carter and Zach Randolph.

Perry has a front office history that includes Seattle, Oklahoma City, Detroit, Orlando and Sacramento. He was part of helping GM Joe Dumars build an NBA champion and perennial contender with the Pistons.

Oladipo is starter quality, believe he is going to do well in Indy. Payton is putting up good numbers, not sure about Gordon and Hezonya. Gaines is still around, so between them the've made some good picks IMO. Would rather Gaines be bouncing ideas off of Perry than Houston.

I think each draft has to be put in a vacuum per say. 2013 was a bad draft, Oladipo wasn't a bad pick at all considering. 2014 there was a known drop after the top 3. Again, not a terrible draft considering the lack of talent. 2015 was a major fail, however, it was widely publicized how badly they wanted Porzingis (in both 2015 and 2014 when he initially applied for the draft) but obviously we were fortunate enough to land him. That pick in either draft would have completely changed the narrative of orlando's draft reputation the past few years.

Given the many busts in 2013 and 14, I think he did well and I think hezonja came down to how poorly Orlando has been handling him

Everything in context....2013 and 2014 draft were really bad. Oladipo was was a pretty good pick considering what came after him. Otto Porter, Cody Zeller, Alex Len & Nerlens Noel followed Oladipo.

In 2014, After Gordon was picked, Exum, Smart, Randle, Stouskas and Vonleh were picked. He really didn't miss out on any top flight prospects...

Perry looks good to me. If he can do for us what the Kings have done in the last six months, then he would be a good hire.
SocraticBallin22 @ 7/13/2017 5:01 PM
Popper reports deal is most likely done.
