This is the same guy the just sign vince carter and zbo, G Hill, to go with some decent rookies..I like this guy already, knowing the meaning of balance..

Not only did Melo set us back with Coughing up players and draft pick to get him, now we can't get rid of him and
The team will be possibly improved from last year and produce mediocrity Draft choice. Get rid of Melo please. !!!!

Perry knows what he's doing. I have suddenly become optimistic again about our future.

You jumped to the conclusion that Perry swooped in and saved us before the ink dried on the paper? You are good

You think it's just a mere coincidence that it's announced that he's getting the GM job and 2 hours later Melo trade talks have been paused? Perry came in like a straight BOSS!

I though ya'll wanted him gone..smh

I do but I don't want him gone if we take back trash contracts that are worse and no assets. He still has value!

There is the angle that we make Melo so mad he waives the no trade clause and goes where the Knicks want him to go... either that or sit on the bench 👹👹👹👹👹👹

You don't want to keep Melo but you want to bring back the guy who gave him this contract?!

Yes...that's what I'm talking about! Or...make Houston think that we changed our minds so they get even more desperate and give up more assets or do something stupid. We may finally have the smartest man in the room during negotiations!

So you're so ready to jettison Melo out of here that you're willing to take back garbage contracts that are even longer without getting one asset back? You move Melo when you can get something back for him or he waives his no trade for any team!

Nalod @ 7/13/2017 10:16 PM
It me and it just an opinion.......there is a "Mexican standoff" at the table and maybe there is snickering that knicks will fold, cuz that's what they do, but the fact I we don't have to do this trade. As per rumor, clev wants melo and thought all long he'd get bought out. This was with Phil. Melo thought he'd get bought out, or get on the banana with Paul. Now knick might know the market and holding off. Bit as others have shown their cards. Maybe cav's need more time. Working a 4 team deal got complicated but I'm thinking as it got to the 2 yard line you can see what's being given and Melo can almost taste the freedom of NY no working with other teams.
so now perhaps Mills controls things a bit more. Maybe now that Boston has settled some things and Paul landed in OKC things are a bit clearer. Also the 30 day rule where you can't trade a drafted player might factor in. Best thing is not throw many names around public ally as its never a good thing to disclose.
This may not be a bad thing, and it might just be that melo is asked to come back, and if he says no, then its on him. Again, leverage shift.

How this all adds up is unknown to Nalod. I just dont sense same ol knick incompetence.

I want to move on from Melo too, but facts are facts.

Knicks would have had to cough up some of the same players to sign him as a free agent.

They didn't have the projected cap room.

I doubt this is really what they want to do. Now if Ram is gets fired then you'll know it's real
LivingLegend @ 7/13/2017 10:22 PM
Smart move IMO -- let the new come in and assess the overall situation.

Consider keeping Melo which in turn could create some leverage with Houston. Maybe new guy gets Cleveland angle going...maybe we get better value at trade deadline.

Worst case scenario...we hold Melo..add Rondo (for Lee) and we play out the first half of season.

I think this is just a smart move given new guy who could have a different approach or an ability to create different trade concept.

reub @ 7/13/2017 10:24 PM
We've got a below average basketball player who won't play defense or run the coach's plays and we pay him $26 million dollars a year. He's getting old on a rebuilding team and some here actually think that we should keep him? His contract for his level of play is worse than Anderson's or Leonard's.

Agreed...we got a poker player....while the league thinks we are playing spades....if Melo does not get hurt and you go into the season with him playing even at last years level....the trade offers will rise...he may even expand destinations....

This is a smart move....no desperation...play it cool...

This is old school posturing during negotiations. It's a solid chess move. The fact is...we don't have to trade Melo! They want him so bad, make us an offer with however many teams needed that gets us back a) young assets b) cap space and a c) 1st round pick.

Perry is ballin' already!

This. For the first time we are not showing our hand in poker. Perry came in...call his bluff! We want Melo to stay, you'all! Love it!

stanleybostitch @ 7/13/2017 10:28 PM
Nice first move Scott Perry. What does this accomplish?

1. Establishes Perry's authority
2. Gives Melo a chance to come back - on the Knicks' team-first terms
3. Shows KP that they're trying to work with his buddy Melo
4. Makes HOU sweat it out so they sweeten the pot
5. Begins to shift the narrative of Knicks-as-laughingstock

Zero downside. Well played sir!
