I'm happy for D'Antoni. I don't blame him one bit for now wanting Melo on his team.
Now the Knicks have a few choices. They can either work his value up or if he's just ball hoggin' bc he's going for his own (a la Rose last season) then you can bench him and give him a lesser chance for a decent contract, after this one is over. It's all up to Melo.

The only information we have is that NY backed out.
Houston has no cap space and Chris Paul is a Rocket and no reason to think his mind will change and ddGS still has the team they have.
It's a reasonable risk based on the facts available to us.

Didn't think the Knicks were going to trade him after he got Phil fired. Knicks bringing back THjr was a big sign they are going to build this team around Melo. Melo was pissed when Phil traded him the first time.
Melo is basically our GM and has the power to make front office decisions. This no defense no ball movement wonder somehow got all this power and influence.

Less moves happen at the deadline than now. In off season it's easier to make moves. This team is building around a 32 year old Melo for the long haul. No defense no ball movement no cap room.

You have to spend money under this bargaining agreement. Can't have like 60mil in cap space going into the season or they would get penalized. They offered money for Porter as the top young FA available. He didn't want to go there and signed a deal with the Nets. They then decided to spend the money they basically have to on people that will come for that pay check. Vince Carter is 40 years old. Getting the money that people on here trashed Affalo for getting.
This is not a knock on Perry. As its not a bad move to overpay for some veterans on short term deals since they have to spend the money anyway. Should eat a contract here and their for some future picks to. They still have 14mil in cap space. But they haaave added 9 draft prospects over the last 3 years. So that isn't a necessity unlike us.

If there was a good trade to be had with clev or Houston the Knicks would have already done it. Hold on the Anthony, develop the young guys and trade him at the deadline if a decent deal comes up. I honestly think Melo will opt out next summer. It is better to try Nd get a long term deal when you are 34 as opposed to being 35.
