Because Gaines, the former Bulls scout, is so closely tied to departed Phil Jackson and sought players only adaptable to the triangle, his situation seems most uncertain. An option for Perry could be to bring in George David to run the college-scouting department. David worked for more than 10 years with Perry in Detroit and is now a player recruiter for the Wasserman Agency.

I suppose we have all fallen in love with Gaines as he was the guy that really got in Phils head about KP.
I don't really see how being a Triangle Scout is all that different from being a scout for other applications.
I can see how he might not fit in with a new system, or Perry wants his own guy.
I can see how Gaines might not want to work for Perry as he might not have the same "Simpatico" he has with the great Zen master.
On the other hand, Maybe Gaines likes the gig and the pay?
I don't know. Berman don't know.
Im sure Knicks1248 does. He knows everything!
I would like to see Gaines stay. Perry was part of the Orlando staff that was crazy for KP. That being said Gaines isnt the only talented scout in the world. He's been good here. Either the new GM keeps him or brings in his own. Perry was also the guy who pushed for Tayshawn Prince to be drafted by Det.
Nobody will be perfect. Jerry West had draft blunders. Just stick to the plan with is build around the young core with youth and defense
I hope this also means that they are certain that Rambis is gone.

I think bringing Rambis back brings back the toxic element in the locker room. Is Rambis a permanent fixture now? Maybe he could have a position with the Liberty.
As Ive said before, Gaines had a smaller target to hit than most scouts. He had to find players for a system that no one runs anymore. Still found good players. Gaines and his staff deserve a chance to show what they can do when they dont have that issue to deal with.
Scouting has been really the only bright spot in this organization lately, would be weird for them to be the first to go. Before Rambis?
Anyone here sayin. "Well that's not that bad" is lying to themselves. Gaines is a great scout. This is more stupidity
Gaines is hands off. He is good at what he does and does it well. I get people want to bag on everything Phil did but the bright spots of the Knicks that Phil brought are there. Getting rid of Gaines then basically saying they don't like their draft picks.
This is some straight BS!!! Gaines doesn't scout for Triangle!!! He's looking for players with TALENT, SKILLS, BBIQ and INTANGIBLES!!!
WTF is wrong with Jordan, Pippen, Kukoc, Shaq, Kobe, Pau etc? All these players won while playing in the Triangle. The same kind of players on the Spurs and Warriors are Triangle capable players. Any player that can excel in a TEAM GAME!

is there something backing this up? Or is just Rambis = Phil's guy so much be toxic?

What are you looking for? There were reports that Kurt didn't get to keep the head job because of what players said at the exit meetings. We knw Rambis participated Ina shouting match in the locker room with Melo back in March. Rosen wrote about Kurt having a tough time relating to the modern payer. Is Kurt needed to bring back the defense that he coached last year?
Rosen's stuff on Rambis.
— Speaking of Rambis … His experience in Minnesota still haunts him. That’s because he wasn’t allowed to hire any of his assistants, and those who were hired spent his two seasons there undercutting him in hopes of getting his job. For Rambis it was a lose-lose situation and he lost-lost. As a result, Rambis has developed a cynical attitude toward modern-day players.
— More on Rambis … He lacked the supreme talent most other NBA-ers have, but he played with energy, smarts, and as much physicality as the rule book allowed (and sometimes beyond that). As such, he couldn’t afford to take any shortcuts in any aspect of the game. Their all-too-frequent lack of a determined work ethic is another reason why Rambis tends to look askance at today’s players.

Letting Gaines go would be a huge blunder, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I agree. Not many in the Knick organization have done their job well. He should be at the end of the list if you are moving on from old regimes.
Ehhh...not big deal Gaines is let go. He did a good job in drafting KP. Jury is still out on Frank. Perry and staff did a decent job of drafting in the past and there are plenty of good scouts around that can do just as good if not a better job than Gaines. Hell, Isiah drafted well. If Perry wants to bring in his own guys so be it...nothing wrong with that.

Please get Rambis off this team ASAP!!! He should have been shown the door when phil left. I suspect Dolan doesnt want to pay another coach not to coach...
can't we keep him and add? Why do we have to get rid of people?
This is what I never understood about the Knicks. All kinds of money to waste on Jerome James, but when it comes to finding undrafted or 2nd round talent, we struggle.
We should have more scouts than anyone else in the NBA.
How much does a scout cost? $100k? $200K More? We're spending $26M on Melo, and we'd spend another $26M on players if we could.
Why not spend that money in having the largest staff of scouts of any NBA team.

I know you want nothing more than the players to run the organization to their hearts content. Please list the examples of where this has led to sustained success and didn't include the best player in the world. Now look at real sustained success like Spurs where the "multiple time all stars" get benched. They don't bitch about it and there are no "reports" about their coaching. They shut the fukk up, play basketball and WIN.

You don't know what you are talking about. But I am curious, do you want Rambis back?

I'm guessing that Gaines and Rambis will be retained unless they chose not to be part of the team. Jeff and Rambis seem to get along just fine. Unless JEFF decides he doesn't want Rambis I can't imagine Petty or Mills telling Jeff he has to fire him.
As for Gaines he's no doubt made his value clear to Mills who has to have worked with him closely over the years. I can't imagine that Gaines Scouting Skills would suddenly not be useful. Gaines is a PURE BASKETBALL man. He's not just a Triangle Scout, which is nonsense anyway.
Gaines is a SCOUT PERIOD!!! He kept scouting even when he wasn't with any particular team. It's who he is.
